Re: Unable to access 818-prog -SOLVED

This error indicates that the 818-prog application was not able to communicate with the USB to serial converter integrated circuit (CH340G) on SHARI.? Larry reinspected his USB connector soldering and found a problem.? He can now successfully run the 818-prog application to program the SA-818 radio module.

Re: Unable to access 818-prog -SOLVED

Sorry I didn't see the comment that you tried SUDO. It appears it does not see USB0, are you sure both USB connectors are plugged in and seat properly? Did you soldier them yourself? maybe a once over on the connectors?

Re: Unable to access 818-prog -SOLVED

Larry, check out page 15 of the quick setup guide located in the file area of this group. I think you may have forgotten the "SUDO 818-prog"

Unable to access 818-prog -SOLVED

All of the configuration went well until I attempted to configure the Shari unit itself.? The following describes the errors I get.? Any clues as to what I did wrong?

[root@K5IMO-48106 supermon]# cd /usr/local/sbin
[root@K5IMO-48106 sbin]# 818-prog
Traceback (most recent call last):

? File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/serial/serialutil.py", line 177, in __init__
? ? self.open()
? File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/serial/serialposix.py", line 295, in open

serial.serialutil.SerialException: [Errno 2] could not open port /dev/ttyUSB0: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/ttyUSB0'

The same errors occur regardless of whether I use "sudo".

Re: DTMF issue with Baofeng #DTMF_Problems

Try setting Menu item (DTMFST) 16 to OFF.? The problem I had came from the feedback loop of the audible tones being picked up by the hot mic.? Simply muting the tones with this setting fixed it.? The DTMF functions, controlled by my UV5R, work fine on my SHARIs now.

Here is the manual info for this setting:
DTMF Tone of transmit??
-? Determines when DTMF codes are heard through speaker.
?? OFF?????? No tones heard
?? DT-ST??? Only manually keyed DTMF codes are heard
?? ANI-ST?? Only automatically keyed DTMF codes are heard
?? DT+ANI?? * All DTMF codes are heard

Failed to ask my actual question... Anyone have a fix or resolution to remove the delays?

Thanks in advance.

Newbie Question

Sent this message earlier but system didnt think I was subscribed..

I have read that the Radio module has delays in opening and receiving in other forums.? My guess is it goes to sleep to conserve power.? Has anyone else detected the slight delay when receiving or transmitting through the SHARI?

BTW to the designer,? I purchased all three products and have to say you have done one fantastic job!? Love them.

DTMF issue with Baofeng #DTMF_Problems

Hi everybody,

There is a known issue related to Baofeng HT firmware. When?transmitting the DTMF tones, the radio's?microphone remains open. Therefore the keypad-generated audio will get mixed with the DTMF tones and?SHARI can not identify the correct code. Here is a simple fix- go to the radio's menu #16 and turn off the DTMF keypad sounds?(by default they are enabled).
So nothing wrong with the node or radio. Just a little compatibility issue caused by the radio's firmware that can not be modified or updated.

This is how our club is doing it as we cannot dial into the repeaters cell router with echolink.

Re: New to the Group

I have an echolink question for you.
If I use my phone as a wifi hotspot to connect my portable allstar node to, will echolink still work with a - R login if I can't configure port forwarding for it??
I am thinking it will not work, but incase I'm wrong, please let me know. I already have echolink set up and working on my allstar node at my qth with a -L login.

Hi Ed, welcome to Allstar and Shari. If I can help in anyway please let me know. I hang out on 50026 (W8DSB) most afternoons. In this file section there is a quick start quide that can help you get your echolink and supermon also working via the same node.

Hi Ed,
This is Steve - N8AR, the designer of SHARI.? Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you found the problem and got your kit working.? I actually had that same problem on one I built.? ?I will put a note in the construction manual about this possibility.? I can be found on node 29789 (N8SL repeater) if you would like to chat sometime.

New to the Group

Hello everyone,
I bought a Shari kit at the Fort Wayne Hamfest. I soldered it together and it was almost working. It was receiving audio from the HT but wasn't transmitting any audio out from allstar. After looking it over I had more solder than I needed around the radio chip. I got some of the extra solder off, the stuff that was also touching the shield and after doing that, it worked!I suspect that something was grounding out on the sheild.

I plan to use this as a portable allstar node and have it setup to connect to my wifi hotspot on my phone.
