We have several voice protocols now: AM, FM, and SSB. The better radios support all as they are in the public domain now.
Will the best digital mode emerge like VHS beat Betamax or will we have a bunch for a while going forward?

As amateurs, we work multiple modes including HF, VHF/UHF, FT8 etc.? SADRC C4FM Network has a unique language of it's own and it is a great place to meet new hams and get help on questions you have about ham radio in general.? As far as that radio goes, I don't think it will do the YSF digital stuff that our club's repeaters use. Whether it's a decent radio or not, I'm not sure. It also looks like it doesn't have D-Star or DMR, so it seems to be an analog only radio. That's ok, if that's what you need.?
You mentioned that you were having difficulty programming it - because you had to do it from the phone app.?I don't see that they have a desktop app... RT doesn't have an app for it, and you already mentioned that CHIRP doesn't work with it.?That's certainly not ideal.?
It looks like it's primary selling point is ruggedness at a good price point.?
Maybe someone else on the list can suggest a comparable radio that's easy to program, includes APRS/GPS, rugged, and is IP67 water resistant. If it's a Yaesu that does YSF for our club's repeaters that would be a bonus!?

I did exactly that. ?Shipped off the VGC for return today and ordered the FT70. ?Standing by for Yaesu¡¯s next release, whenever that may be, in hopes it has USB-C charging.

As far as that radio goes, I don't think it will do the YSF digital stuff that our club's repeaters use. Whether it's a decent radio or not, I'm not sure. It also looks like it doesn't have D-Star or DMR, so it seems to be an analog only radio. That's ok, if that's what you need.?
You mentioned that you were having difficulty programming it - because you had to do it from the phone app.?I don't see that they have a desktop app... RT doesn't have an app for it, and you already mentioned that CHIRP doesn't work with it.?That's certainly not ideal.?
It looks like it's primary selling point is ruggedness at a good price point.?
Maybe someone else on the list can suggest a comparable radio that's easy to program, includes APRS/GPS, rugged, and is IP67 water resistant. If it's a Yaesu that does YSF for our club's repeaters that would be a bonus!?
