MTC will not be attending f Belton due to various reasons
MTC will not be attending Belton due to the weather forecast. If it looks clear, I still record going. Great Hamfest. I am sorry I have some bad news to report. Bad news #1. Belton Hamfest! We will not be there. We were planning on setting up outside again and with the threat of weather and other family stuff going on here we just can not pull it off. Sorry. Ruby Jack and Christine are out of town this weekend. Christine's mother wrecked her car a couple of days ago and I need to hang close to the house. We do love coming to Belton. It is always a blast. Bad News #2. Tariffs! I am sure everyone has been seeing this info. From what I can tell if these are not negotiated in the next few days prices on everything we sell are about to start going up soon. I am seeing emails saying 20 to 54 percent increases are coming. It depends on where it is made, where parts come from to build it and where it is shipping from. It's pretty confusing actually. It looks like significant increases are very possible. There is much uncertainty. However, most imported products arriving in the U.S. after April 5th may be subject to these tariffs unless something is negotiated. Good News #1 We have a load of SPE Expert 1.5K Taurus amplifiers landing tomorrow. They were not subject to the new tariff. We got them in just in time. After we fill our back orders we will have some left but not many. As of this writing we have these models available to ship now 2K-FA x 1 1.3K-FA without ATU x 1 1.3K-FA with ATU x 4 1.5K-FA x 2 1.5K-FA Taurus (six available late on Friday) We did have a pretty good run on them today from folks trying to get them before the 20 percent plus increase. Good News #2 We loaded up on Product for Belton. Since we are not coming I have activated a special coupon code to help get it all out of here. Please know This may very well be the cheapest that you can buy anything in our store or anywhere else for the rest of the year if Tariffs hit on the 5th. Windows 11: Time To Upgrade? 3
Based on some previous conversations, with both HAM folks, and others, I wrote an article about whether it was time to upgrade to Windows 11. The article doesn't have any HAM radio specifics, it's definitely more targeted at general business or personal computer usage, but the concepts can apply to us HAM folks, as well. However, the FAQ section specifically answers Microsoft's Windows 11 Upgrade FAQ with some insights of our own. Feel free to forward it to anyone who might have questions or concerns about the upgrade! To be perfectly transparent -- this is my side business, and it's what I do, so the bottom of the post is a little "advertise-y", but not too much. Personally, my HAM radio laptop is a Surface Pro Gen 3, which is not eligible for the upgrade, and I'll likely be stretching it for a couple of years more. Enjoy! https://softouchsystems.com/2025/03/25/windows-11-time-to-upgrade/ Derek Moyes, K1DDM K1DDM@...
