Rear tailgate glass
I was wandering through SJ’s catalog, and saw that they reproduce the rear tailgate glass, if anyone is interested. It’s almost $600, and I’m sure it’s going to be pricey to get it shipped, but at least it’s available now. Bill Virus-free.www.avg.com

Brake Light Switch? 7
The brake lights went out on my S1. Where is the switch? I couldn't find anything in the manual. Do the leads that connect to the brake fluid reservoir cap have anything to do with the lights? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -- Toaph

Ideal wheel configuration 22
I did some digging in the search here but I couldn’t find an exact answer for this. Has anyone ever evaluated what the best tire/rim combination for handling on these early Esprits? I know the tire availability for the 14s are pretty bad, but what would be the best rim widths and offsets (front and back) in both 15-inch and 16-inch (or even staggered) configurations. I love the Speedlines and the BBS-style on the Turbos, but I was curious if anyone had ever played around with different setups to see what was best for handling and tire availability. I would like to find some nice three piece 15-inch wheels but not entirely sure what offset and width would be best. Thanks, Shah

It looks like I don’t have the original steering rack in my S2 - the brand is a JKC but I can’t read the serial #. I need to adjust/replace the tie rod end, does anyone have any idea what car this would have come from? Any help would be appreciated. I can send pictures if needed. Thanks Murray Graham Toronto

Fuel pump on s2 4
On my 79 JPS Esprit, I sometimes have to hit it for it to start pumping. Is this an easy fix or is it time for a new fuel pump? -- Rich F '79 JPS #040 '95 S4s ...SHF63000

Front suspension lower link inner bushing 7
Hello all, I'm replacing all front suspension bushings, ball joints, springs and shocks on my 1977 Esprit S1. All was going well until I came upon the front lower link inner bushing. Apparently, there was a design change after 1978. I have the rubber bushings for post 1978 links, which of course do not fit. A solution is to send the links to England and have them resleaved to fit the bushings. Since that process might take over a month or two, has anyone resolved this issue locally or diy? If so, please let me know details. Added a pic to show original link (bottom) and new bushing (top). No, the new bushing will not slide into existing sleeve. Thanks, Jeff

Wiring Nightmare...? 27
So I've got my 77 S1 with a good mechanic who was recommended to my by local Lotus folk. It seems I'm in good hands with him. He was able to track down my coolant leak(s), and much to our relief, it was not the head gasket. However, when he started digging into some electrical issues I have with the popup headlamps, things turned very bleak very quickly. The wires behind the left side binnacle panel practically made him faint. It looked like they'd actually been on fire at some point (see toaph.com/esprit). He said that if I wanted to fix this up right, we should replace the entire wiring harness. So this leads me to a couple obvious questions: 1) Are wiring looms even available? RD Enterprises didn't think so, except maybe from SJ in England, and even then it's probably a long-shot. 2) How unrealistic is a job like this? Does the body have to come off? How many hundreds of hours would be involved? The guy said he could probably improv his way out of it, but couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be another melt-down somewhere in the future. We figured the first step was to get the above questions answered. Thoughts????? -- Toaph

Smog equipment 7
Does anyone have a good source for the smog equipment for a ‘79 S2? Mine has none of that equipment and I will have to go through that I have also read that folks have passed CA smog with Dellortos if they have the air pump and air injection rail intact, airbox and catalytic converter in place. Does anyone know more details on that?

I had issues with my wiper - installed new motor, and new wiper stalk. Now it’s working but only one speed and won’t stop automatically at bottom of windshield, I have to manually switch on and off until it reaches bottom. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Thanks Murray Graham Toronto ON

Maintenance after storage 36
Hi all, I am new to the group here. I am eager to be more active in this community. I have a 1979 S2 that has been covered and in garaged storage for around a decade. It was running fine when parked. I am looking to bring it out and get it on the road again. What sort of maintenance would you recommend before starting it up for the first time? I was planning to change the fluids and possibly replace the timing belt, but I wanted to ask the experts here what they would do in that situation. What are some key problem areas to watch out for? What would you replace/check while doing the timing belt? Thanks, Shah Selbe

Thank you all for your feedback. What a great community. I thought I had already sent this message, but I haven't seen it come through, so maybe something happened there. @Jim: to answer your question, I am located in Long Beach (CA) but only recently came here from LA. I bought the car in Los Angeles way back in 2005. It was painted grey by one of the previous owners but I believe it was originally white. The car is number 752H (I think that is correct; it is the last three numbers and letter on the "Unit Number" line on the plate in the car). If anyone knows any history or past owners of the car, I would love to learn more. Thanks, Shah Virus-free.www.avg.com
