Hi All
I've been a Lotus man since my late teens which was quite some time ago now. In fact I had and still have a Elan +2 and during Covid have bought and restored an Elan S4, Elan Sprint and a TC Europa but as I've always loved and wanted an Esprit I ended up buying one at auction last week.It really is lovely and will only need some, hopefully minor work!

I wonder if someone can can tell me the exact model I've bought? Its a naturally aspirated 2174 cc 1990 Esprit - a couple of photos attached.

Thanks in advance
John

Re: cam carrier

Hi Rich, Basically yes and it does make for a better oil seal without the wrap around cam cover. I think the 907 carriers may be interchangeable but the 910 carriers are specific for intake or exhaust so watch that you get them right way around when you install them. The difference is just in the angle of the drain drilling but they are marked I and E on the right front corner on top.?

I was curious if the 910 cam carrier would be a drop in replacement for a 907 engine?? Anyone done it or know of someone who has?

I might of asked this along time ago.

Re: cam carrier

Yes, I have done this on my 1974 Jensen-Healey
I have a 910 cam carrier on the exhaust side of the 2.0L 907 motor in my Healey.
I did it a few years ago and I don't recall any unusual issues.

That makes a big difference in crossover flow but changing that would require modifying both tanks because you would need the bigger spigot on both tanks. The Turbo Esprit draws fuel from the left tank, pumps it up to a bypass pressure regulator and the bypass flows back to the right tank. Because of the bypass the fuel pump is constantly pumping gas front he left tank to the right tank so the cross over is normally flowing gas back from right to left even when standing still and idling. The crossover needs to flow better with gravity than the fuel pump can deliver so it needs to be bigger. S1/S2 uses a low pressure pump with no fuel return so theres no need for the extra flow in use. It would certainly be nicer for filling up though if that hose were a bit bigger. The fittings on the later tanks are all BSP thread with a Banjo bolt and I suspect that the S1 S2 is the same but I cant be certain without looking. BSP threads come in both T (Taper) and P (Parallel) versions, the tank threads are parallel meaning they are standard straight cut threads and the seal comes from the gasket washers on the banjo fitting. Taper threads are like Pipe threads that seal on the taper of the threads usually with the addition of teflon tape or pipe sealing compound.

H/L Motor Oddity

Hello folks,
Presently in the process of checking my wiring creation up front of my S2 I discovered something odd on one of the headlamp lift motors. The first motor tried has the expected regulator screw/nut setup, whereas #2 motor has a plain capscrew. I must suspect the PO had changed one of the motors at some point but by what means is the 2nd motor regulated?

Re: 78 Esprit s2 Wiper Switch

Rummaging through the chaos I found a switch purchased some time back from Rimmer Bros listed under Triumph Stag parts on the website. It's clearly a recent repro part, detent action has a different feel as compared to OEM and the graphics are inelegantly cartoonish. Wouldn't be my first choice, will refurb the stock item for my S2.

Cheers

Of course the question is moot if the switch is of the normally open type.
