Re: Wiring Nightmare...?

Shah,

?

I agree with Atwell, repair your existing harness unless it is really trashed.

?

Download one of the wiring diagrams from my web site . Have it blown up to a poster, and frame it with a cheap plastic frame.

?

I recommend additional wiring from the starter to the front end. I ran two 10-ga wires, one for the headlights, one for the new Spal cooling fans.

Hi all,

I am bumping this thread back up to the top because I wanted to know if there have been any advancements in the best approach to harness repairs/updates in the (nearly) ten years since this thread was last discussed. I have some quirks in mine and a 90s alarm system that I would like to remove. Harness work always makes me nervous, and I wonder if it would be better to start fresh and add the necessary relays and other improvements. I have an uninstalled window relay kit for the car but I know there are other areas of the harness that can use improvements.?

Is it better to try and diagnose wire-by-wire or try and start fresh? What improvements would you all make to a stock harness?

Are there any new vendors or insight on how to update the wiring harness for the early cars (I have an S2)? Auto Sparks has a for 877.92 GBP and SJ for 695.78 GBP. Has anyone used these? I believe both are to stock specification, so it would be a starting point for a fresh install and upgrade. Has anyone used one of those custom harness kits to just start from scratch?

Just curious what everyone thinks.?

Thanks,?
Shah

Re: Wiring Nightmare...?

I think you would be better-off addressing your 'quirks' individually than replacing complete wire harnesses. Start NEW topics for each.

That said, Lotus harnesses often have poor connections or crimps. Wiring diagrams are available online.

Re: Smog equipment

Sorry. You feel that way. Maybe You are UNDER INSURED. I like my S1 . But , I don't eat , sleep and dream Esprit S1. And to ensinuate that someone would come to perhaps come to steal your car , is plain wrong. And extreme paranoia.

What is this insanity?!

Don't you know that it is highly improper to include relevant
information on vehicle model and/or year, let alone any idea of
location?

You'll bring the entire fabric of reality crashing down upon us with
this kind of reasonable behavior!!

P.S. Subtitles for the hard of thinking; This is a joke.

Re: Smog equipment

Tony? I am a 1977 Esprit S1 Owner. Thanks for offering these smog parts to the owners. However as I mentioned previously. I find it to be IMPERATIVE that when? an S 1 or? S2? owner sends an Email in regards to S1 or S2 include the Country, the Province and the City in which one lives.
That way not only we can offer eachother help theoretically. But? practically. Eg. Someone may want to reach out and would like to compare cars. Eg. If someone is working on a project and unsure of something.? Thanks ?

Alternatively, there's a product called ZAP "Rail-Zip 2". It's made by the same Pacer Technology (ZAP) people who make super glues for the 'hobby' guys. It's available at any local hobby shop that caters to model trains... it's usually right next to the super glues. I've always got some on-hand. Just apply some to both mating contacts, then push the connector together. In a short time, it will deal with any corrosion. It works great on the 'bullet' connectors that are so common in Britcars.

Yes I believe the switch is in the wiper motor. Without testing yet I think it’s probably the the Lucas 6DA wiper control that’s the issue, SJ has them so after testing at least I know where to get one. Thanks for the info Atwell

Regards the 'park position' issue:? Generically, many older cars simply used a cam & switch to interrupt power to the wiper motor when it reached the proper position. Can you determine from the removed, old motor if this is the case?

Look up the schematics and trace by wire color.

Re: Esprit 1990 Missing relay

My power mirrors don’t work, but I know it’s because the wire running between the body and door is broken. It’s just in a bitch of a place to fix. I’ll probably have to disconnect it in the door, pull it into the cockpit, and repair or replace the wire.

That relay location should be empty, in US cars at least.

Some Esprits have a (factory installed) jumper between two terminals of that empty relay socket. Would need to look up the specifics.? I KNOW I've seen pictures!
