IXO = Just... WOW!!!
I recently received up one of the new IXO 1955 Peterbilt 281 tractors as seen in the attached photos. After a very brief review of the item in package (without even opening it), I immediately ordered another $172 worth of them in variety! Folks.. these things are GORGEOUS!!! And in my opinion, EVERY S scale layout will be INCOMPLETE without at least a few of these IXO trucks! To date, I have never seen ANYTHING else comparable! They are worth every penny of the asking price! I will take and post more photos when I get past the "I can't bring myself to open it" phase. John D Scaler164

Overland gearbox 3
The mid 80s Overland S Scale diesels all have the "tank" drive which are extremely random if they will run well or not. Even though they all have what looks like the same gearbox some run really fast like it is a different reduction. I have what I think is a NWSL 244-6 gearbox. It was a real easy swap out for my test almost like NWSL made it for that use. This test also ran fast. Does anyone know if NWSL can change the gears to get more reduction? I am by far not the gear expert. NWSL website says you need a MOD4 for S Scale use. Does someone else make a suitable gearbox? The motor and truck shafts are about 1 1/8" apart. Even for the locos I think are running "well" the SLOWEST speed usually has them waddle because the motor is cogging. A significant reduction would stop that as the motor would be spinning at a higher RPM. I don't care about high speed. I have about 5 locos that are not running well. A new gearbox might fix them Thank You, Bill Lane Modeling the Mighty Pennsy, PRSL & Reading in 1957 in S Scale since 1987 See my finished models at: http://www.lanestrains.com/My_Models.htm Look at what has been made in PRR in S Scale! MODEL RAILROADER Request for S Photos 3
Eric White, editor of MODEL RAILROADER, just indicated again that they are eager to get photos of S layouts and models for publication. In correspondence today he said: "Please keep encouraging your S scale colleagues to keep sending in photos - they do a lot of good work." You can submit photos directly to Eric at "eric.white@...". Adhesive question 22
As always Allan comes through for me on increasing the Meramec Valley Lines payroll. Here are a couple pics of the new hirers at work. I do have a question for everyone. I would like to have the front brakeman standing out on the platform. My S12 is a Mopac detailed one of a kind in S. So I don’t want to use any kind of adhesive to hold him to the platform that would leave any kind of damage to the finish if I decided to remove him from the platform. Do any of you have a suggestion? Mike Swederska Meramec Valley Lines Modeling Mopac equipment in 3/16 https://www.youtube.com/@mikesscale3149 Don't let perfection get in the way of good enough! Adhesive question.
While recommending museum wax, it's important to order the correct wax. You will want the fixative, or mounting wax...not the paste style which is used to protectively coat the surface of artifacts. Jim Martin

Old Man Handrails 10
I can go for months without going into the center of my layout. I have had this idea for a long time but finally did it because I am working on my layout. I added handrails to the legs about 18” from the floor to help me low crawl. The layout is just grazing my back when I go under. Note I made them a bit longer on the inside of the loop. Message From Ed Loizeaux 6
Ed asked me to post this message to the group: Smiling Ed reports he has consumed hospital cuisine for the past several days with several more days to go. He was processing three orders for parts of various kinds when a nasty dog bite sent him seeking medical help. Rest assured he will return to S scale matters upon return home. He appreciates your patience and understanding.

Speaking of S-scale Trucks... 8
Since we have been talking about "big rigs", here's a new web site for y'all: https://modelmechanic.net/ The Model Mechanic, Steve Nasburg, used to sell a bunch of S-scale big-trucks-related 3D-printed items via the obsolete Shapeways. He has now started his own web site, has listed all of his items, and can print them to-order. All items are available in HO ("87th"), S ("64th"), and 1:50 scale ("50th"). See the "FAQ" for how to place an order. Speaking of S scale trucks..... 4
Before I got into designing and 3D printing of that ACF 70 tonner that I'm doing, I was 3D printing a IH-150 cement truck for the Kaw Valley Railroad. I mean, what else are you going to do will all those PS-2 covered hoppers. Darn! Those early 150's are a Little to old for the PS-2 covered hoppers. Soooo....I had to design and 3D print a ACF 70 tonner. I'm willing to print some more of these trucks, if there is enough interest. Mike Fyten Kaw Valley Railroad

Magnetic Uncoupling and steel wheels and axles
Hi All The steel wheels and axles seem to create problems for me using magnets strong enough to ensure consistent uncoupling...but the magnets grab the trucks. The brass wheelsets work fine. I have a pretty good collection of scale wheelsets in steel if anyone out there prefers the steel sets over brass I would be happy to swap :-) Kim
