Plug door improvements. 2
I just ran into this article on improving an HO car, much of it is applicable to the AM plug door car (or adding plug doors to the standard AM boxcar if you want the rivets without using decal rivets). We could use a source of steel ice hatches and a few other parts. Pieter Roos

Another AM door
I bought a group of abused cars I probably should not have. 1 of the best shape cars was a American Models Railbox that was missing a door. I did not have a list of parts I wanted to get from AM but that would have been easiest¡. So 5 hours of Solidworks and 4 prints later I got the door I wanted only to make sure it is facing the inside of the layout anyway. That was easy! Rail Joiners for S-Helper Flex Track 12
Just thought I would ask this group if anyone knows what might work the best for rail joiners, since Fox Valley are Sold Out at this time. I'm looking for Rail Joiners for S-Helper / MTH code 138 Flex Track that will be used with Fox Valley Switches. I was looking on eBay and found 3 different rail joiners that might work. I want the Silver unpainted ones so I can solder wires to them if needed. [1] Peco PL-10 said they fit HO / O scale code 100 Track, [2] Guy in Florida goes by antbocc_50 has O Scale rail joiners for code 125 & 148 track, [3] Micro Engineering 26-100 rail joiners. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks John

Laser Horizons PRR Passenger Car Sides
Jerry Britton has a page on his web site that, as of May 2011, Dennis of Laser Horizon was able to produce these sides for PRR-based cars: https://jbritton.pennsyrr.com/index.php/tpm/368-laser-horizons-passenger-car-sides One could presume that if he has those drawings, he'd be able to scale them up to S, or make others for other railroads that had similar cars. As an aside, Dennis is the president of the Sebring Model Railroad Club (HO-scale) in Sebring, Ohio and the local paper did a report on him and the club this past November: https://www.cantonrep.com/story/lifestyle/family/2024/11/19/sebring-model-trains-railroad-club-open-house-2024/76253072007/ - Peter. -- Peter Vanvliet (info@...) owner, Fourth Ray Software Houston, Texas https://fourthray.com/ https://pmrr.org/ (personal web site)

Laser Horizons 7
On Friday I went out to Harrisburg for the PRRT&HS Annual Meeting. It was at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey, site of the last two NASG conventions, so I went around and said hello to all my friends on the staff there. But the real reason for this post is that I also ran into Dennis Sautters of Laser Horizons, recently discussed on this list. He is, of course, alive and kicking. He said he is still in business and very willing to cut passenger car sides for people. He doesn't have a website, but you can email him at laserhiz@.... (He said that way back when he started, AOL had a character limit for addresses, so he couldn't spell out "horizons".) He is cognizant of the fact that S scale passenger cars come from different manufacturers, and are therefore slightly different sizes, so be sure to tell him what model you want to apply the sides to. He also offers sides in two thicknesses if you want to overlay the old sides (thin) or replace old sides (thick). (My personal recommendation would be to overlay the sides on an American Models car and replace the sides on a Chester, JC Models car.) I will add that the usual disclaimer applies. Message From Ed Loizeaux 8
Ed asked me to post this message to the group: Smiling Ed reports he has consumed hospital cuisine for the past several days with several more days to go. He was processing three orders for parts of various kinds when a nasty dog bite sent him seeking medical help. Rest assured he will return to S scale matters upon return home. He appreciates your patience and understanding.

IXO = Just... WOW!!!
I recently received up one of the new IXO 1955 Peterbilt 281 tractors as seen in the attached photos. After a very brief review of the item in package (without even opening it), I immediately ordered another $172 worth of them in variety! Folks.. these things are GORGEOUS!!! And in my opinion, EVERY S scale layout will be INCOMPLETE without at least a few of these IXO trucks! To date, I have never seen ANYTHING else comparable! They are worth every penny of the asking price! I will take and post more photos when I get past the "I can't bring myself to open it" phase. John D Scaler164

Overland gearbox 3
The mid 80s Overland S Scale diesels all have the "tank" drive which are extremely random if they will run well or not. Even though they all have what looks like the same gearbox some run really fast like it is a different reduction. I have what I think is a NWSL 244-6 gearbox. It was a real easy swap out for my test almost like NWSL made it for that use. This test also ran fast. Does anyone know if NWSL can change the gears to get more reduction? I am by far not the gear expert. NWSL website says you need a MOD4 for S Scale use. Does someone else make a suitable gearbox? The motor and truck shafts are about 1 1/8" apart. Even for the locos I think are running "well" the SLOWEST speed usually has them waddle because the motor is cogging. A significant reduction would stop that as the motor would be spinning at a higher RPM. I don't care about high speed. I have about 5 locos that are not running well. A new gearbox might fix them Thank You, Bill Lane Modeling the Mighty Pennsy, PRSL & Reading in 1957 in S Scale since 1987 See my finished models at: http://www.lanestrains.com/My_Models.htm Look at what has been made in PRR in S Scale! MODEL RAILROADER Request for S Photos 3
Eric White, editor of MODEL RAILROADER, just indicated again that they are eager to get photos of S layouts and models for publication. In correspondence today he said: "Please keep encouraging your S scale colleagues to keep sending in photos - they do a lot of good work." You can submit photos directly to Eric at "eric.white@...". Adhesive question 22
As always Allan comes through for me on increasing the Meramec Valley Lines payroll. Here are a couple pics of the new hirers at work. I do have a question for everyone. I would like to have the front brakeman standing out on the platform. My S12 is a Mopac detailed one of a kind in S. So I don¡¯t want to use any kind of adhesive to hold him to the platform that would leave any kind of damage to the finish if I decided to remove him from the platform. Do any of you have a suggestion? Mike Swederska Meramec Valley Lines Modeling Mopac equipment in 3/16 https://www.youtube.com/@mikesscale3149 Don't let perfection get in the way of good enough!
