Paint for airbrushing
32
Hello all, I have quite a few 3D Central cars to paint and I have not used an airbrush in 20+ years. I know that certain brands have gone out of business and one was what I used for airbrushing back in the early 80's. I want to stay away from non-water based paint. I cleaned out enough paint jars with my finger wrapped with a paper towel and soaked in Dio-Sol. No wonder I get headaches around people with strong perfume. I am looking for feedback on water based paint that can be used with a basic air brush. If there are spray paint options I am open to that as well. Thanks Michael Osweiler Waseca, MN

American Models Unidentified Plug-door Box Car/Reefer
6
Ted Larson found this car listed on eBay: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~cYAAOSw16JkiPTN/s-l1600.jpg (the image may get deleted soon, but I have a copy saved to my computer should that happen; if it does, it a yellow body color Delaware & Hudson road number #32207) The car matches the other "2200" series of American Models' plug-door box cars/reefers in terms of looks and "features", but I don't have this one listed. I am looking for the AM product ID for this car, presuming that this is a legitimate car that AM produced. These cars were released in 1996. I have the range of "2200" (the older kit versions didn't have the leading "2") cars listed from 2200 through 2231. I am missing these numbers, so it could be one of these: 2214 2216 I have looked at the Web Archive for American Models' web site, but it only goes back to 2001, and the cars listed there, I had already documented. Does anyone have an old AM catalog or brochure, or maybe have this model in your collection, to identify the AM product ID for it? Thank you for any leads. - Peter. -- Peter Vanvliet (info@...) owner, Fourth Ray Software Houston, Texas https://fourthray.com/ https://pmrr.org/ (personal web site)

New NWSL Stanton Drives for sale
Is anyone in need of a set of brand new NWSL Stanton Drives? I just purchased this set NEW from NWSL and messed up on the size. They are new in-box and not run. This is a set of 1 powered truck and 1 unpowered truck. It is Model 1615 with 33" wheels and the variable 8', 8' 6" or 9' wheelbase (you can change easily). I paid $162 for them but someone can have them at the bargain price of $125 plus shipping. My error can be someone's gain. If interested please contact me at bob.hogan@.... Thank you! Bob Hogan

Granite plate
4
I've been looking for a granite plate for laying out work for a while. My wife and I stopped in to a kitchen supply showroom for some countertop samples so I asked them if they sold any of the odds and ends that may be left over. They said that they have discontinued samples that I could have! So I grabbed this 10"x10" piece. Not suitable for a machine shop but just fine for me! -- Rob Fuhst Grand Haven, MI

S Scale switching layout plan
28
Hi Tom If you are looking for a small switching layout plan there are hundreds if not thousands to choose from. You didn't say how large a space you want to fill. The easiest way to go is to find a prototype track drawing at a small location and simply copy it. That's what Tony Koester calls a Layout Design Element. In my case, the small end-of-branch at Port Dover, Ontario appealed to me. See below. It ended at the Lake Erie shoreline and had only six turnouts. For space considerations, I combined the fish plant and coal dealer spurs into one. What you see below was removable from my layout and travelled thousands of miles to dozens of train shows. For all of it's simplicity, switching a train could take a half hour or more. Especially if done at prototypical speeds and using prototypical practices. Two good websites to check out are those of Lance Mindheim (shelflayouts.com) and Carl Arendt (carendt.com). Lance has written numerous articles about prototypically operating deceptively simple track layouts based on actual locations. His modelling and photography are superb. I'm a big fan of tiny layouts and the late Carl Arendt built a massive website for micro and mini layouts. Even if you are not pressed for room, the problem-solving ideas in these clever plans are transferable to larger spaces. Cheers Jim Martin. p.s. I too always had a hankering to build the Gumstump and Snowshoe.

New ACF Twin Covered Hopper Kit?
9
I seem to recall someone announced here they were working on a kit for this model from the late 1930's. Or am I just dreaming? I'm hoping for one with the triangle cutout sides to come to market. I can kitbash one, but at my age it might take two years of solid work. (8-) Thanks, George Courtney

S scale Tight Lock couplers?

I recently saw a photo of some of the new S scale operating couplers from China, amongst the pic were two versions of the Tightlock type as used on passenger cars. Can anyone confirm if these are indeed available in S or were they just O scale availability. John Degnan? Bud Rindfleisch
