Scale Trains

Reading some business news, Scale Trains said if tariffs against China sometime soon, they will be forced to close their doors.? The article mentioned Scale Trains as one of a group of twenty-five, iirc, model railroad companies who are commenting on the effect of the tariffs.? As business news, Scale Train said the millions in investment to start up a factory here would mean making their products here as cheaply as China would make American Made even more expensive than with tariffs. Perhaps a final fire sale for us hobbyist?? I, of course, have learned over the decades of investing, I cannot foretell the future.? Perhaps an agreement will be reached tomorrow.? Strictly meant as business news.

I wrote to Scale Trains a while back stating that I do not expect them to eat the tariff, I expect to pay the additional cost to get my S scale trains.??

With inflation, the cost of my $5 AF boxcar in 1960 would be $55 now, almost as much as the list price for the?much higher quality SHS reefer.??

The higher SHS quality is enough to cover the tariff cost.? Cheap imports have been nice, but the cost going up is not enough to make me abandon the hobby; just makes the cost more similar to what it would have been with inflation, and also similar cost to what we have been paying for made in USA kits.? But yes, sure would be nice if there was more manufactured in USA production capability.??

Just saw the TRAINS on-line interview with the head of Walthers. He spoke of the tariffs adding $450,000 cost to each container coming from China.? I can only guess that in six months there will be a resolution, hopefully.
