If I may I'll add on a couple of experiences I've had in the S part of the hobby!? When Houston hosted the NMRA national in 89'.? I was one of three S layouts and one Sn3 open, plus our module setup so we were a big chunk of that could be seen.? BTW, it was also the time that 3/16's S scale railroading was introduced to the world.? Hundreds of brochures were handed out to all who attended the trainshow segment so we did rattle the cage a bit.? And something amazing happened the magazine was actually printed and was available in hobby shops! --what happened?

I'm not sure what Ed was expecting but certainly the staff gave it a good effort, and I"m sure Ed's piggy bank was feeling it.? However, few of the rest of the scale did or were able to join in!? The same thing happened with the S Sig, Then Bill Wades magazine, then the last version of that magazine.? I wonder, if anybody remembers when one of my photo features and Dick Karnes's railroad ran in the same issue of Great Model Railroads.? Having two articles published--I would say a fairly good effort for our scale!? I encouraged SHS to run a full page ad in MR--not sure if that happened--??
Unfortunately Bob, I think it's somewhat telling that despite the publisher's heroic efforts, even a free online S magazine could be sustained.
