Re: Breast cancer causes <NNC> healing beams needed
Thank you Jill.
Many folks here remember when I was going through chemo for breast cancer three years ago. I'm still here and going strong. I noticed your link to an article about ultrasound spotting breast cancer. That's how they found mine. I'd just had a mammogram that showed nothing three months prior to being diagnosed Stage II. I thought I felt something a little... off. It was the ultrasound that sent me to surgery, not the mammogram. So my advice is: If you think something's not right, get the ultrasound, even if your mammogram looks OK. It's cheap and it saved my life. Thank all of you again for the prayers and good wishes I received from this list. You were more help than you could possibly know. See you at Shoreline. Love, Bearly |
Jennifer Stills Last Night...
Hey, just got home. The music's still going at Tangier, but I have to get up
early so... Just wanted to check in with the evening update. Tonight was a sweet acoustic-based show, with several Jennifer solo songs, then some with other folks like Scott Bennet sitting in (Scott plays with Brian Wilson and recently got to sing with Paul McCartney, speaking of sweet...), and a set with her band. A little later the adorable Morty Shallman did a few songs (also with Scott), as did Paul Plagens, who was very "Kinksy" and cool, and eventually we got a couple great piano songs out of Jennifer's brother Chris, just in from a summer in Paris. He sounds fantastic, if anyone's wondering. CC White sang backup vocals with him, and then brought down the house with her a capella version of "Let There Be Peace On Earth." Oh my God... Anyway, like I said, they were still going when I left, so I'm not sure what I'm missing, but these shows just keep getting better. If any of you are in the neighborhood, you should really consider sacrificing a few hours' sleep and coming on out one of these Monday nights. Sept. 30's show will include Jennifer Stills, Amanda J, Ponticello, and who knows who else... Goodnight! Fraulein

"Far across the deep blue water
There's an old German's daughter On the banks of the old River Rhine There I loved her and left her and I can't forget her 'Cause she was my pretty fraulien Chorus Fraulein fraulein walk down to the river tonight when thos stars start to shine By those same stars above you well I swear that I love you For you are my pretty fraulein ~ ~ ~ ~ When my memory wanders way over yonder To the one that I left behind In a moment of glory her face comes before me The face of my pretty frauline Repeat Chorus [End of song] Wie Geht's? The above song has always been a favorite of mine. I first heard Stompin' Tom Connors' version of it back in the Seventies, and today I heard Townes Van Zandt's version, both very fine versions of a great, great song. My appreciation for Rusties is at a high level tonight as I think of the fine music that I've come to learn about from y'all. Even though I don't celebrate birthdays, today has been a very good day with lots of great music playing here at the Old Homestead and nice discussions on the list. At the library today we had a bit of trouble finding a James Taylor cd because the librarian thought it was Easy Listening while I classified it as Country & Western. The head librarian came along and saved the day by looking it up and finding it under ... Rock. The librarian had never heard of JT so I told her that he was originally proclaimed to be the "next Beatles". She spoke of the unsurpassable greatness of the Fab Four, but I held my tongue 'cause, after all, I'm the guy who likes artists like Katy Moffat, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle and James Taylor more than I like the Beatles, with due respects of course. The Beatles are great too. 2) I'd like to thank Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch for highly recommending Townes' music and, especially I'd like to thank Austinpicker for generously sending me Towne's cd The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, commercial release still wrapped in the celephane. This takes the cake and the biscuit and I'm very appreciative. fRed Sun |

years since I'd seen Neil (9/20/00, Red Rocks). It was great to meet a bunch of new rusties and re-acquaint with others. I got a good feeling when, immediately upon arrival, while waiting for the train in the Pittsburgh airport, Mike C and I ran into Elliot. While I made the brilliant comment, "I guess you're here for the same reason we are," Mike asked him who Neil was playing with (meaning what band or solo). After the response was had, I realized that this was not a good thing, me knowing the answer when, after all, this was to be the first show, post-rust, that I'd gone to where I had absolutely *NO IDEA* what Neil would be playing. : ) Then I figured, what's the difference anyway? I could already predict most of his setlist. Let's face it, the only way I'll ever go to a neil show with any real sense of wonderment anymore is if I go to opening night. This is my goal for Neil's next tour. : D Which reminds me......other things we learned from Elliot......new album, tour dates and locations......those kinds of things... Now I wouldn't want to tell you guys anything about those things and possibly ruin anyone else's surprises!! One day you all will thank me for that. (hahahahahaa) Our seats were great: 4th row. (I'm so spoiled.) I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. During the Dave Matthews set, two young girls (with big mouths) popped up next to us. They were having a **very loud** conversation. I asked them if they liked DM. Their response was a very excited, "Yes! We love him!" I couldn't help but respond with, "If you're such big fans, why don't you shut up and listen then." : ) Well now, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything but I just don't understand that type of behavior.....going to a show to see one of your favorite artists and then talking during their whole performance. What is up with that?? How about actually *watching* the performance and then talking about it later? After being cloudy and threatening all day, it cleared out in enough time for us to see the full moon. As it rose, I explained to one of the many journalists around us that it was the harvest moon. He responded with something about it being a well-known fact that FA is always planned with that in mind. News to me. Deb RTR put together a very nice fest the night before. Attending the fest with us were all the American Indians that Neil had with him during his set. After dinner, all the rusties even helped the Chief celebrate his birthday. Before Neil's set they had a little ceremony backstage and actually made Neil one of their blood brothers which, according to Hippie Girl, Neil was very honored about. To see pictures of the ceremony (and also look for HGS in one of them taking her own pics), goto: 1342 Unfortunately, while in theory the whole farm aid and saving the family farmer mantra appears to be a worthy cause, from all I've read the whole thing is futile. Meanwhile I noticed a booth there that had an ad that said something like, "How many times has Clear Channel touched your life today?" Maybe they should work on doing something a little closer to home in the music industry.....like doing what they can to blow up the Clear Channel megaplex. bh aka brown-skinned indian ~~~the music matters~~~ --- ---> |

Hey Joost , Jim McQuaid in Canada here. I got my copies of the 3 early 70's shows. Listening to Toronto 1-15-73 now, great stuff. Thanks for getting the complete show together. Will you post your story on how this came together ? (Please ...) I did notice the artwork ( ) has Last Dance & Don't be Denied in a reverse order of that listed in GOTR. Sugar Mountain agrees with the artwork. Your thoughts ? Thanks again for getting this great upgrade out to us. I've been playing Lonely Weekend for years, now I have the real thing. Of course I play it mostly for Out On The Weekend alone !!! Cheers, Jim Memory to Spare |
