node-red-confit-remote
node-red-contrib-remote had been working perfectly. I had to rebuild my Raspberry PI OS after it became corrupted. I reinstalled node-red. I imported the latest of my flows. Remote-access node indicated Configuration From Backup. When I clicked on the button "Connect Node-RED app" the QR code would not appear, instead I received the following error message "Error while registering app: Request failed with status code 400 / Missing parameters. I believe I had been following the author's instructions to delete and reinstall the node. I also checked the latest remote-config and the data appears to be correct. I have tried this on two different Win11 systems to no avail. Any suggestions about what to do?

RPi Kernel Panic on Bookworm
74
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has run into kernel panic issues on Bookworm? About a month ago, I decided to finally upgrade my fairly reliable RPi3 on Stretch to a 8G RPi 4 running Bookworm. I used the RPi3 mostly for packet, an RMS station, and Pat client. When I say upgrade, I mean I built the new Pi from scratch, merged prior configs into new configs, etc. After moving everything over, I started noticing crashes every 4 - 5 days. It took me a few crashes to figure things out. The usual suspects were ruled out (power, temperature, load, RAM, apt-get upgrade); I wasn't receiving any log messages indicating any type of issue. I also run all of my Pi's headless, so as it turns out I had to order one of those Micro HDMI cables to finally see the panic, relevant section below: [455824.423915] Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 0000100000400000 <snip> [455824.449897] CPU: 0 PID: 5851 Comm: beacon Tainted: G WC 6.1.0-rpi4-rpi-u8 #1 Debian 1:6.1.54-1+rpt2 [455824.451459] Hardware name: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5 (DT) [455824.453007] pstate: 00000005 (nzcv daif -PAN -UAO -TCO -DIT -SSBS BTYPE=--) [455824.454566] рс : ax25cmp+0x14/0x60 [ax25] [455834.456161] lr : ax25_addr_ax25dev+0x60/0xf0 [ax25] Curious to see if anyone is having issues like this. My uneducated read of this is that /usr/sbin/beacon did something bad with a pointer. I was able to verify that PID 5851 was the "beacon" process and this is the second panic I caught which names beacon as the culprit. My short term work around is to have Direwolf beacon for me and prevent /usr/sbin/beacon from running. It will take a week or two in order to know whether that work around is helpful. I usually prefer to use the native AX.25 tools whenever I can, but that toolset doesn't seem to be aging well. Thanks Mike

Low voltage solution
15
I'm tired of it! The voltage drop in most or all USB cables is too much. Hearing about all the 'high current' capability of USB C cables, I ordered some SHORT one and USB C to micro adapters for my old PI's. Hopefully a solution. I have dozens of 5v wall warts and none seem to work. The wires in normal USB cables are way too small for several amps. No problems here with supplies provided with my Pi4's. Ideas? -- 73, Bo W4GHV since '54 https://www.qrz.com/db/W4GHV

Digital Voice via RaspberryPi
11
Overheard a conversation on a repeater the other day that was very interesting. The person claimed he had a basic 2 meter analog radio and connected a Raspberry Pi via Digirig interface which allowed him to run all digital modes, Fusion, DMR, D-Star, P25, and others. I would be very interested in this. Does anybody have any idea on what software this may be? Or is it just a lot of smoke? -- 73, Michael WA7SKG "Any day you do not learn one new thing is a wasted day."

Pitnc_getparams

I see this was discussed years ago. I have a bunch of unused HTs and want to experiment with them using my Pi TNCs. I For the life of me I can’t get the get_params command to work. It keeps telling me that the file is not found. I am in the correct subdirectory. I have done a chmod +x on the files. I have re-installed the files. I turned on I2c in raspi-config and rebooted. Why is the file not being seen? I want to play around with BPQ and ax25. bob nz2z

Recommendations for a distro for low power operation with WSJT-X
5
Hi. I am new to the group. I am interested in putting WSJT-X on an RaspberryPi4 that I have sitting around. I would like to use it for portable operation with a QRPLabs QMX+. (Lovely little rig, btw). Rig has internal sound card and works great with my old Win10 PC, but this thing is really built for portable operations, so I want to have something light. I expect to have a small display, just big enough to run WSJT-X, and a miniature keyboard and mouse. My current focus is on keeping the power usage down, but having enough horsepower to run the decoding process promptly. RPi4 seems to fit the bill. If there is a distro that is minimalistic, that would probably be best. I expect that different distros will have bloatware that is not needed. I would like easy control of what gets run. I would also like to be able to add some sort of logger that I could backup ADI files to a USB drive when I am done with a session for safe keeping. I can pick up the wsjt-x log for FT8 contacts, but this rig also does CW and in the near future SSB, so if there is a simple linux based logger, that would a nice feature. I would expect to underclock the pi if I use it for logging without wsjt-x running. Suggestions? Mark W8GU

Seqence of Events on RPI with Pi-Star
5
Am curious as to HOW does RPI work? Do you have to load the RPI operating system onto RPI first Then Program the SD Card with Pi-Star ? I would "think" that the RPi has it's software on board. When you power it up, it boots up, then somehow gets a command to go to the SD Card to run the Pi-Star Program? OR...Is the RPi and Pi-Star programs BOTH loaded on the SD Card? Have been using MMDVM with Pi-Zero Cards....No problem. Acquired some Raspberry Pi unit, with Nextion Screens....whole NEW adventure. If I get the RPi units running on DMR, I suppose have to load different software on Nextion Screen to display the information? Lots of questions from a newbie Raspberry Pi user! Decoder for CW practice?

I'm in the process of getting reacquainted with the RPI and was wondering if there is an app (like PCW Fistcheck for Windows) that would work as a decoder for CW practice? Xdemorse looks promising but I'm having trouble getting it configured correctly.

KX3 - WSJT-X with Raspberry Pi 5 and DigiRig sound card (CP102 and CM108 audio chip) fails TX audio
2
I have working KX3 + DigiRig with my Maclogger program and WsJTX on my Mac computer. When I setup my new RP5 with DigiRig the audio decodes on FT 8 (in WSJT-X) but when I key the KX3 in USB mode ( audio modulation ) the radio will key but it seems the transmit audio goes out through the HDMI driver and out its speakers instead of into the mic jack. I used the ALSA tools and LSUSB command and the Cp102 + CM108 audio chip show up correctly. I cannot get the CM108 to take priority over outputting the FT8 audio which goes to the HDMI audio on my LED monitor. The apparent rule of muting all output channels seems to apply to my trying to get audio out and into the mic jack on the KX3. Since this a working system I can only conclude I am missing some tool to change the priority of increasing the driver ahead of the HDMI audio driver in the Raspberry Pi 5 OS. Anyone have any suggestions how to get the settings right. I have been through several good articles on the RPi site by Philips and USB audio cards by Lady Ada to no avail. This has to be entwined with the fact the analog headphone port went away with the advent of the RPi5 and I cannot find a tool as the ALSA mixer won’t allow me to change the audio stream. Thanks for reading this Best regards John K3GO

Power Pi 4 or 5 from 12 volts
17
Our club is in the consideration mode for a Pi based packet system with expansion to a VHF an HF RMS. The site has a generator for backup but I know generator power can be dirty and not immediate. We have a 50 amp Astron and I would like to run the Pi from that. Not settled on the verson of Pi but both Pi4 and Pi 5 are in consideration. So, what would be the recommendation or success stories with a hat based UPS in the pie and what is a good way to power it from the 12 volt Astron? 73 Dave WB9TEN
