TNC PI 300 baud ?

Kerry McKenzie

Greetings all
I have a question for the list as I am about to set up HF forwarding on packet and will require 300 bauds.
Is the TNC PI capable of 300 bauds with some mods?
I already have one TNC PI running 1200 baud on vhf and have a spare unit.

Audio spectrum display??

Can anyone recommend a utility to diplay the audio spectrum (at least 200Hz to 4kHz) from an audo adapter and display amplitude on a logarithmic scale??? The interfaces I use for WSPR seem to work well so hardware is not a problem. ? At present I have to resort to using the Windows application SpectraLAB on a PC!

Adafruit has a display with touch and a driver -- give them a look.

Re: Raspberry Pi model B+

One change that concerns me a bit is combining the audio and the analog video in the same connector. It looks like those that want to use these on the new Pi will have to build/buy an adapter. It was so easy plugging an RCA video cable directly into the Pi.

Hopefully that's the same combined cable used by many modern, but not
HDMI modern, devices like portable DVD players. This will eliminate a
couple adapters and a small jumper to make the cable between the RPI
and Player much simpler.

Re: Raspberry Pi model B+

John,

That new composite output design does create some potential issues, but at the same time does make it easier to work with. One possible source for adapters that would work is older video cameras; I have the A/V cable for mine, but have not yet bought one of the B+ model Raspberry Pi computers.

You've probably heard by now that there is a new model Raspberry Pi (the B+) that has more I/O pins, more USB ports, and a few other changes. ?You may be wondering how this effects the TNC-Pi. ?Actually I've researching that issue today because I wanted to make sure the TNC-Pi wouldn't be obsolete by this. ?

It turns out all add on boards for the Raspberry Pi will also work on the B+ version. ?At some point (like when I run out of boards) I'll switch to a 40 pin header, but the current header on the board will work just fine with the new Pi. ? Whew!

I am glad they have updated the board and added the additional USB ports, but I do not plan on making?the leap until they add more processor and memory.

I am looking at the Hummingboard ().? It loooks like it may be a great way to go if it will handle the all the additions we have put on our Raspberry Pi devices.

I have gotten a 3.5" LCD screen from amazon MZL350i. ?Difficult to get drivers going. No touchscreen use yet. ?PiScreen project from ozzmaker.com looks to be prettygood. Got my PI recently. Got FL-Digi going pretty good with a 10 dollar USB sound dongle from MicroCenter. (Pi is from there too). ?

There are so many raspberry pi related sites, products and project links on google that it would take a full time career to sniff them all. Bill k6acj

Re: CANNOT CONNECT/NEW ROUTER

You can do it on either end:

Change the broadcast SSID (wireless network name) and password of your new router to whatever you had before.

Or, change them on your pi, like . If you are hooked up to a monitor and keyboard/mouse, you could also use the tool on the pi desktop.

I have a RPi that I set up for my dvap. I have a Wi-Pi plugged into the usb port and was able to connect to the RPi wireless up until I got a new apple router. ?Now I am not able to connect and I cannot remember how I got this thing set up....complete memory loss!

Anyone have any suggestions I might try? ?It seems my issue started once I got a new router.....

Data radios available

Robert Nickels

Since I know a lot of folks on this list are into APRS and packet, I thought I'd give fellow Pi fans first shot at a couple of 2 meter radios that would be good for this purpose. They are ICOM IC-28As, with 5/50 watt output and are known to be very reliable. Drop me an email off-list for details if interested.

g2_ircddb software for RPi

I support a git repository for Scott KI4LKF's g2_ircddb software. I originally received the code from Ken N1DOT and have repackaged it into an easy-to-install git software repository that uses "make" to compile and install the services necessary to run a g2_ircddb gateway.

The g2_ircddb is a light-weight alternative to Jonathan G4KLX's ircDDBGateway software. g2_ircddb has no graphical user interface and runs as three LINUX services. It is ideally suited to run in a "headless" environment and is extremely stable. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Jonathan's ircddbgateway (like voice timeservers) and is more like a traditional DStar gateway (e.g., you have to unlink before you can link to a different reflector or gateway).

This repository has been tuned to install g2_ircddb on a Raspbian (Debian Wheezy) distribution for a Raspberry Pi or a Debian for a BeagleBone Black. For the BBB, I recommend the Debian image on armhf.com, but it will also work on the new Debian image from BeagleBone.org.?

An RPi or BBB DStar hotspot is easy to set up using this git repository and supports both the DVAP dongle or the DVRPTR_V1 GMSK modem.?The repository includes "HX" and "RX" URCALL scripts to either halt or reboot your computer from your radio. You can also build scripts to do many other tasks.

I have included a script to download the latest gateway list from Ramesh VA3UV, filter out all gateways except REF***, XRF*** and DCS*** reflector and at the same time, move XRF reflectors from port 30001 to 20001. This allows connecting to X-reflectors without using port-forwarding rules on you local network. (Of course you can use the VA3UV data as is, if you want. You can also add back in a few select gateways back into the filtered list.)

The repository is at?, The README.md file will get you started and the BUILDING and CONFIGURING files discuss all the details of compiling, configuring and installing g2_ircddb.

Asterisk and repeater controlling?

James French

Hello all.

I hope everyone has had good conditions for Field Day this year. No showers
or lightning until after 5pm Sunday :)

I have gotten the asterisk-pi distro working good with three softphones software
on three separate puter here. Now working on getting two each spa1001 and
spa2101 analog telephone adapters working via mesh nodes. That is going to be
on going project there :)

I have heard and read some literature that says you can use Asterisk to control
and link repeaters together. The only stuff I have found so far is about the All-star
network and thelinkbox projects. Will starting to delve deeper after Field Day on this.
the information I am finding on those two projects seems to be 'dated'

I did run across a search link that referred to this group in reference for getting a Pi
going for just that.

Has anyone done this from this group gone and done this, either with a Pi or a
regular desktop that could help me out? Not really looking to do IRLP or Echolink
as there are plenty of repeaters that do those currently. Just looking at interfacing
Asterisk to a repeater to control and link the system together.

Hello All,
Anyone in the group know of a good GPS receiver software program for monitoring the NMEA data sent by a GPS receiver? I have looked on the net and found some Linux programs that display the position on maps but I have not found anything that will just a simple display of the basic S/N levels, lat/long, etc. Had thought this should be simple but I haven't found any such so far. Thanks...

The NMEA data just streams as ASCII text, so you should be able to "see"
it in a terminal session

For serial number I guess you need to send the GPS a command also simple
ASCII.... I have no idea what...

I guess the NMEA command set is defined some where on the www ...

Hi Max, Yes, I can see the ASCII strings on my Pi using Minicom. So I know the NMEA data sentences are there. I just need a linux program to parse the data and put it into a human readable display, something like VisualGPS which works for that horrible OS known as Windows! Thanks, Doug, k4cle

Doug,

Google is your friend here. From a search I found this article which is a good start :-

You may have to write some code in Python to get exactly what you want. One of the issues is that there is no common way to put every GPS into NMEA mode. I have some Motorola ones and an some Trimble ones and they all require a different string to be sent to the GPS to put it into NMEA mode. Both have various proprietary modes as well as NMEA.?

Hope this helps,
