Asterisk and repeater controlling?

Hello all.
I hope everyone has had good conditions for Field Day this year. No showers or lightning until after 5pm Sunday :)
I have gotten the asterisk-pi distro working good with three softphones software on three separate puter here. Now working on getting two each spa1001 and spa2101 analog telephone adapters working via mesh nodes. That is going to be
on going project there :) I have heard and read some literature that says you can use Asterisk to control and link repeaters together. The only stuff I have found so far is about the All-star
network and thelinkbox projects. Will starting to delve deeper after Field Day on this. the information I am finding on those two projects seems to be 'dated'
I did run across a search link that referred to this group in reference for getting a Pi
going for just that. Has anyone done this from this group gone and done this, either with a Pi or a regular desktop that could help me out? Not really looking to do IRLP or Echolink as there are plenty of repeaters that do those currently. Just looking at interfacing
