Re: Unable to reach my Flex radio via my raspberry pi 4B and Tailscale via my network. Wi-Fi connection is fine
Many thanks, Larry, for your helpful suggestions.? The Pi properly shows up on my Tailscale machine inventory and it does show up on my network as well as the Flex.? It appears to be a windows 11 issue.? I can see the station dashboard on all my Windows 10 PC's but not on the Windows 11 PC's. I will continue to look at that issue and report back. Again, many thanks Bob, KN4HH

Unable to reach my Flex radio via my raspberry pi 4B and Tailscale via my network. Wi-Fi connection is fine
I have never run into this situation whereby I can only communicate with my Flex 6500 via my Raspberry Pi 4B on my Wi-Fi connection using tailscale. ?I am unable to reach the radio using my wired network.
I have tried several pc¡¯s connected to my wired network running both windows 10 and 11 with no success. ?All of my Wi-Fi devices (iPhone, iPad, Wi-Fi connected laptop) ?communicate with the radio with no problem. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Bob, KN4HH? |

I already mentioned the case interfering with the cable plug fully seating and was promptly dismissed. It is also possible to damage the conductors inside the cable by pulling on the cable to unplug it instead? of pulling the plug itself. My wife recently did that to her iPhone charging cable. I have seen lamp cords and and earphone cables damaged the same way. Some folks just don't wanna believe it -shrug- 73, Bil KU8H bark less - wag more On 10/7/22 09:16, Larry Dighera wrote:

Re: RPI Frustrations
I would look at your power source. Those USB bricks can be troublesome sometimes. Maybe use a USB power pack to see if you notice any difference. And oddly enough? if you use a surge protector power strip, those can be a source of problems. It may not be your Rpi that is the issue. Good Luck.

<k5atg@...> wrote: On the HDMI Display, it just says no signal Hello Aaron, If your RPi is not outputting video, it may be due to the HDMI cable and/or adapter not being fully seated. There's also the possibility the RPi HDMI port has become partially unsoldered from the board due to rough handling. Can you burn another SD card, and see if the RPi is still functional using that new card? Given you've verified the SD card is functional on another RPi, I doubt this test will be useful, but you never know. :-) Best regards, Larry WB6BBB |
Re: RPI Frustrations
Had a similar issue.
In my case it was after an update & upgrade. It seems the fake kms driver is depreciated, so raspOS has changed it into the kms driver. In my config.txt I had to change the line dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d into dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d My Pi won't work with kms , only with the fake kms. Unfortunately, after each upgrade it is changed back to kms, so it requires manual intervention after upgrading. |
Re: RPI Frustrations
I have unit and case that the MDNI cable would not quite fit with unit in the case but worked fine with it out of the case. I got a cable that would fit and ended the problem. See if yours will work without the case.

Re: RPI Frustrations
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBtw.. when you say "Powered it down and went to bed", can you tell us how you shut down your Rpi?? Just to be sure, it's important to understand you cannot just unplug the power.? You have to use the GUI interface to gracefully shut it down and wait to see the 10 blinks of the activity LED before removing power.? If you don't do this, you run the risk of corrupting any storage device be it an SD card, USB SSD, etc.? Usually on the follow-on boot, Linux can recover the file system errors but occasionally.. the Raspberry Pi was writing to critical areas of the storage device when it lose power and that can permanently corrupt the SD card's data. As far as your follow up, that's very strange you're only seeing a black screen.? Can you try booting this Rpi while connected to a different HDMI display?? I've seen all kinds of "slow power on" issues with some HDMI displays (usually TV) that aren't seen on other displays.? You need to observe the output on the immediate power on of the Rpi. --David KI6ZHD On 10/06/2022 09:40 AM, Aaron K5ATG via

Ok my RPI 4 seems to be doing everything possible to really get under my skin. Everything was working just fine yesterday. I spent a couple of frustrating hours of putting all of the radio software I wanted on it, hooked it up to my radio and got everything figured and was actually experiencing CAT control and made some digital QSO's. Powered it down and went to bed. This morning I work up and not much going on so I figured I would get on the radio. Turned on the RPI and absolutely NOTHING. I have it in a ARGON One case because for some reason it will not work in the case that came with it anymore. So all I have is a red LED on on the front of the case. I thought that it ruined another SD card so I pulled the card out and put it in an original RPI and it worked, slow like crazy but it proves that the micro SD card is just fine. Don't know what to do. I have to fight for any progress and then overnight a new problem occurs. I don't understand why it works great and I turn it off and then it doesn't work. Why does it work in the ARGOn case and not the one that came with it? It makes no sense to me. |
Re: RPI Frustrations
Don't use SD cards. It boots and runs much faster from a USB SSD. Never had one fail.

Re: RPI 4 Low Voltage Wrning
I had a low voltage warning once. But it only happened after I performed an update to a fresh Bullseye. When I switched my SD card to my previously used card that had Buster on it, problem never happened. Same Pi, same cable, same power.?
I since worked through the issue somehow with various updates or distro upgrades. It was definitely a software glitch (ghost in the machine). It only happened for a brief time and hasn't come back. No hardware changes so it was definitely a software issue.? |

Aaron, >I do not know how to check the voltage and amps on my USB cable.?
Check the voltage with a voltmeter between the Raspberry Pi GPIO pins 2 (+5) and 6 (ground). If you are interested in volts and current, buy a USB volt/ammeter and place it in-line with your RPi. Amazon sells many models for about $12. -larry (K8UT) ------ Original Message ------

Re: RPI 4 Low Voltage Wrning
N5XMT,
The power supply that I am using is a power outlet strip. It does not tell me the amps on it. The cord is just a braided USB cable that I found was more suitable for charging phones than powering an RPI. ? Is just a little dongle that plugs into a USB port that helps keep time when I operate portable.? The low voltage warning is intermittent. It does not seem to change when I add and remove stuff from the USB ports. I'm using an Argon One case, could that be a power drain? I have the fan on and off depending on temp.? Larry K8UT, Thanks for the information. I will take measurements later. Thanks for the info on the USB volt/ammeter, I will put it on my wish list for now.? What do I need to look for in a good RPI Power Supply and cable?? Could someone just send me a link?? |
