Re: Backing Up Pi?? Balena Etcher??
#raspberrypi
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks for the info guys.? I was able to reformat the SDcard using an old laptop with the new Linux on it.gparted worked, but was a bit scary to use.? I used the instructions here: ? ? ? Used Format with FAT32 instructions.? The first two command lines worked fine. I couldn't get the boot partition to format or output instruction to work but the print of the partition table did work.? However the listing under the File System column was blank instead of fat32.? Attached is the File System listing of the now blank card. Anyhow, I tried that SDcard in the Pi and was able to copy my working card on to it with the Pi. Best regards, John,? Anyone know of a simple way to make a used SDcard look new to Pi? I use this: SD Memory Card Formatter 5.0.1 for SD/SDHC/SDXC The SD Memory Card Formatter formats SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card and SDXC Memory Card (respectively SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards) complying with the SD File System Specification created by the SD Association (SDA). It is strongly recommended to use the SD Memory Card Formatter to format SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards rather than using formatting tools provided with individual operating systems. In general, formatting tools provided with operating systems can format various storage media including SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards, but it may not be optimized for SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards and it may result in lower performance. SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards have a ¡°Protected Area¡± for SD Card security purposes. The SD Memory Card Formatter does not format the protected area in the SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards. The protected area shall be formatted by an appropriate PC application or SD host devices that provide SD security function. The SD Memory Card Formatter doesn¡¯t support SD/SDHC/SDXC Card encrypted by the ¡°BitLocker To Go¡± functionality of Windows. Please format the SD/SDHC/SDXC Card after it has been unlocked. |

Disregard this link. It applies to a specific task and seems too complicated. Just add gparted from add remove software. 73 On Sat, Jul 10, 2021, 06:11 Dave R via <daverickmers=[email protected]> wrote:

Balena Etcher didn't work for me -- I think I know what I did wrong, but I need somebody to tell me if I understand my error correctly.
The Raspberry Pi SD Card Copier instructions I found direct that a BLANK CDcard be inserted in one of the USB connectors.? The card I used was one I had already screwed up using my Pi. I've now spent considerable time trying to format a used SDcard into a single 32gb FAT-32 partition with no success.? Anyone know of a simple way to make a used SDcard look new to Pi? John,? W0GN |
Thanks Larry. Those scripts should help a lot.

You can expand the extra capacity in raspi-config on first boot on new medium. In terminal, sudo raspi-config. 73 On Fri, Jul 9, 2021, 14:24 Nigel Gunn, G8IFF/W8IFF <nigel@...> wrote: It will copy everything including the card's formatting information. If I use an image maker? like Balena Etcher to make an image from my Pi SDcard, will it copy everything on the card or only the operating system???
I make so many errors it would be nice not to go back to square one each time.? I would like to have both the operating system and my files on a backuo SDcard. John,? W0GN |

Does this work on the Pi 4B+ 8GB also? I am thinking of migrating from my old laptop I use for home use, which has a 500GB SSD courently and it would be nice to keep a near like but more up to date replacement. Marty kd8bj On 7/9/21 10:45 AM, Nigel Gunn, G8IFF/W8IFF wrote:

The Linux operating system has a find command that will walk filesystems searching for a file name provided to it a one of the required arguments. Here's a suggested command you might try: find / -name WSJT-X\* 2>/dev/null ^ Send error messages to the bit bucket ^ The (prefix of the) file name to find ^ The directory in which to begin searching ^ The find command I've attached a few find shell scripts I've found useful over the years. Remember that a Pi 400 will boot from an external USB drive so as small USB SSD works fine. I'm using the Samsung T7 model MU-PC500R. It's 500GB for around 80USD. Good morning, OM,?
I¡¯m contemplating the same. Buying a 400 for my station.?
I can also give a vote for the Ham Pi suite. I currently run it on my pi and it does everything I¡¯ve asked of it.?
I see no reason the install on the 400 would be simple and straightforward.?
