Re: TRA 931 HANDSET SCHEMATIC?
Bruce wrote:Bruce, I should have looked in the box. Yes those are the same numbers that are on the handsets I have here. They are wired differently, but can be easily converted to work with the Racal radios. I have no idea what they were used for originally, but you are right, they don't work as they stand. Dan |

Anyone have a schematic for the handset for the TRA 931 set? The number on mine is 5965-99-901-4616. I think mine is wired wrong.Bruce, it should be in the manual. Look for the Audio socket connections diagram. F is earpiece A microphone C PTT switch D common return for all those I did buy some handsets from ebay however that had the correct plug on them, looked like the correct handset however they were wired differently, but it is easy enough to check with an ohmeter... 73 Dan ac6ao / g3ncr |
Re: BCC39 and BCC589B
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I will stick with the SG237 seeing that I have one already. The rig will be going into my S2A ex-army landrover when I have finished renovating it. I will also have a 351 and an RT-F200 in there plus an ex-mil 12-24V converter.

The Pinzgauer looks to be a nice setup, especially for the wx conditions you experience over there - much more suited that the ragtop landrover! 73 Howard JC wrote:

Re: PRC-351 or 351-M, More Collectable?
Many thanks for the info there Iain, really appreciated, I think I'll risk an M then & see how it sounds, I had heard they had a "bid" socket, but what that actually was & what practical use it could be I had no idea, but if there's no obvious drawback compared with the std 351 I'll get one ordered.

I think there are both practical and interets/rarity reasons for preferring the 351-M. The practical reason is that the modified sets have wider audio bandwidth through the BID 300 socket - sufficient for 9600 baud packet and other wide data modes. The interest reason is because they were designed as a portable alternative to the RT353/DMU secure speech combination used in landrovers, for the Royal Marines primarily. As such they are rarer and have associations with a particular unit. Whether the modification/refurbishment to make a 351 into a 351M makes them younger sets or reduces their reliability I'm not sure - my only in-service failure of a 351 since I got my sets was a 351M so far. PRC-351 or 351-M, More Collectable?
Which would you say was more sought after, the standard Clansman 351, or the modified 351M?
I have the chance for either, same price, I just can't decide which to choose so I thought I'd ask you fine chaps for your views, any benefits or disadvantages either way? Cheers Gav |

At first I also used an SG237 with the BCC39B/Vehicle 100 Watt adapter. All worked well using a SGC smartlock. I used an AT1011 whip antenna on top of Pinzgauer 4x4. Now, to keep everything green, I use, also successfully, the Racal BCC540B ATU, it is simply connected to the Vehicle adapter with a 7 pin cable. Pushing the tune button on the BCC39B panel starts the tuning process. You can see pictures of the vehicle inside and out in the photo section under VE7oi I have no info on the 100W vehicle adapter, if you find any I would be most interested. (I also tried a remote with the two wires connected to the adapter, works fine) Cheers JC VE7OI --- In Racal-manpacks@..., "Howard" <howard@...> wrote:

Re: BCC 540 ATU
I think you will find that it is used with the Syncal 30.

BCC 540 ATU
Hi all,
I have a BCC-540 ATU. It is a plain 540, no suffix ! I opened it and saw that the control socket has only three wires connected Black, Red, Orange. Is this ATU compatible to BCC-39B ? Is it automatic or need some sort of control signal from the transceiver ? Schematics and manual available ? Thanks. Tony, HB9RBS |
MA988
There was a recent post concerning the subject amplifier that seemed to imply that it was not suitable for operation on 24 Volts, if I understood the post correctly. This is not the case. These are designed to work with any of the older man packs, 12, 18 or 24 Volts, and work by plugging in to one of the audio sockets on these sets. The PTT line mutes the amp. But I am not going to hazard a guess as to the value of one :^)

Re: Racal TA 940B
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Bob
?
Yes I thought as much, someone said you could also use the MA 540B ATU, I
have never owned the earlier ATU, but have seen pic's of it on the web.
?
I may try it out soon, using a 540B or just straight into the Antenna?
on the freq VMARS use 3.615Khz?
?
Cheers Bob, BTW when you gonna get on air? All the kit you have, still
looking for all the boards for my A1 example of the Marconi Scimitar 'H' it cost
me all of ?4, but we knew it to be a space model, what makes it more annoying,
six months after picked up two battery packs for that set!!
