Some dates coincide with quarterly Department of Defense Communications Exercises (COMEX). All exercises will begin on channel 1 as the initial calling channel and move to other 60-meter working channels as may be appropriate. "In addition to voice calls, I want to introduce passing ICS 213 messages in both voice and digital modes to enhance the overall interop experience," said US Army MARS Chief Paul English, WD8DBY. English continues, "Our exercises will yield the frequencies to other scheduled exercises or mission activations, which may be called by other agencies for interop support (e.g., hurricane, wildfire, etc). We regularly instruct MARS members to work cooperatively with the amateur radio community during the use of the 60-meter interop channels. We will continue to track our 60-meter usage and activities." English said he plans to provide a quarterly usage report of 60-meter interoperability activities. The interoperability schedule is as follows: February 23 - 27 Exercise: DOD COMEX 21-1 Location: CONUS March 1 - 7 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS April 3 - 10 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS April 30 - May 6 Exercise: DOD COMEX 21-2 May 7 - 8 Exercise: Armed Forces Day Cross-Band Test Location: CONUS June 1 - 6 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS July 5 - 10 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS July 20 - 22 Exercise: DOD COMEX 21-3 Location: CONUS August 2 - 8 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS September 1 - 6 Exercise: Interop Outreach Location CONUS October 1 - 31 Exercise: DOD COMEX 21-4 Location: CONUS NNNN /EX Source: W1AW Bulletin via the ARRL.

Auxcomm Net at 3PM CDT / 4PM EDT today
Today is the first Sunday of the month, so we’re due for our regional voice net at 2000Z. That’s 3:00 PM CDT, 4:00 PM EDT. Dave, W9PFD from Illinois will be the NCS today. Following the recommendation of the regional committee, effective with today’s net, the 40-Meter portion of the net will be conducted on 7280 KHz and down (instead of 7180 KHz and up) due to crowded conditions in the 7175-7230 range of the band. There are no guarantees that this will resolve the problem, of course, but we’re going to give it a try. Eastern Central 1600 1500 USB 5.3715 (if Ch 4 is busy, then Ch 5, 1, 2, 3) 1610 1510 LSB 7.280, look down for an open spot 1620 1520 D-STAR REF024A 1630 1530 DMR R5AUXCOMM (31673) Thank you for participating, and please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. 73! Flares are short-lived events but they can significantly reduce HF propagation during the daytime with lower frequencies more affected than higher ones. Keep this in mind, especially during the 60 meter portion of the net. Hopefully we’ll get a break in the solar activity today. Following Earthquake in Haiti, Radio Amateurs Asked to Keep Frequencies Clear
Begin forwarded message: From: ARRL Web site <memberlist@...> Date: August 14, 2021 at 3:07:46 PM EDT To: nd8w@... Subject: Following Earthquake in Haiti, Radio Amateurs Asked to Keep Frequencies Clear ?Following Earthquake in Haiti, Radio Amateurs Asked to Keep Frequencies Clear August 14, 2021 | ARRL In a statement received by ARRL on August 14, 2021, Region 2 of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU-R2) has requested that radio amateurs in the Americas keep the following frequencies clear to support emergency communications in Haiti following an earthquake this morning: 3750 kHz, 7150 kHz and 14330 kHz. The statement came from IARU-R2 Emergency Coordinator (EMCOR) Carlos Alberto Santamaría González, CO2JC. According to preliminary information from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on August 14, 2021 at 1229 UTC, about 12 kilometers northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud and 33 kilometers to the east-northeast of Les Cayes, Haiti; 18.352 degrees north and 73.4801 degrees west at a depth of 10 km. Mr. Jean-Robert Gaillard, HH2JR, President of the Radio Club of Haiti, reported significant structural damage. International news reports fear high casualties.

Auxcomm voice net today + additional information
Today’s NCS will be Max, KE8DON, from Michigan. Beginning with today’s net, I’m asking all NCS’s to call for check-ins by state, with each state called one at a time, on each mode. NCS’s, please call the states alphabetically (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin) and report the state for each station checking in. One other note: 60 meters has not been a good performer for us recently during the daytime hours (understatement) and 40 meters has been generally too long until much later in the day. Both of these conditions make it very important for NCS’s to utilize stations at a distance to make net calls on their behalf and relay any station check-ins back to the NCS. These stations do not need to make their net calls by state. Poor daytime HF conditions should be anticipated (depressed performance on the sun-facing side of the Earth, especially on lower frequencies, until we get further along in the new sunspot cycle) for the next several months. This also justifies why we always test our digital voice capabilities. Please join us at 2000Z!
