Sweet Adeline International is gearing up for one of the biggest media events
in its nearly 60-year history.
Remember the impact of Hands Across America in the 1980's? I participated --
did you? Sweet Adelines Intl. is offering all members worldwide the
opportunity to become involved in a global event called Sing Out For Peace.
The purpose of this event is to bring music, song, and happiness to those
whose lives were touched by the tragedies that took place on September 11,
2001. The events of that day made a last impression on America and the world
as a whole.
Sing Out For Peace -- set to take place on September 11, 2002 -- will be a
celebration of life through music and will be dedicated to the world and its
people.
International is encouraging all choruses to participate in a singing event
on September 11, 2002 -- it could be as simple as singing a few songs outside
a federal building, courthouse, fire station, school or church. Or start
working now with your city to plan an event. Several of our Region 11
choruses already have plans in the works.
After the event, choruses will be urged to send articles, newspaper
clippings, photos and videotapes of the performance to International. There
will be a big spread in the January 2003 Pitch Pipe to highlight some
performances.
I recently received a packet of information about Sing Out For Peace from
International, including sample news releases, Questions/Answers, Song
Suggestions and Order Forms, and various other materials. I've requested
that these materials be sent to me electronically -- International is working
on it, and will let me know when they're available so I can pass them on to
you.
In the meantime, mark your chorus calendars now and let's work together to
make this the largest international singing event of the 21st century!
