Re: New (old) Mac

Thanks, Roy! I found this explanation:?

And today, had a zoom meeting with Ray Bidegain. We worked it out. Frustrating, but so glad to know what to do. Ditch the AirPrint driver. The step-by-step is in the link above.

You also have to NOT have the AirPrint driver installed.

Wow! Maybe that is the reason I was beating my head against the wall last week helping a woman here in town get her P900 set up for doing DTP. No matter what we tried, we could not get the Epson Media Installer to communicate with the printer. I am pretty sure that we also had the Epson AirPrint version of the driver installed on her laptop.

Fortunately, we were able to print by just using the poster board setting on the front of the printer and make sure they matched with the Print Tool print settings.

Re: New (old) Mac

I'm not sure why there are troubles with the "front poster board" feed.
But on the P900 it's very important that the feeds and the exact paper size agree
on both the printer panel and in the driver software. QTR has the feed in the QuadToneRIP dialog
and the Epson driver has it on the Paper size selection. You also have to NOT have the AirPrint driver installed.

Re: Piezography Pro Inks- UV densities

Measured on pitorico ultra premium at an ink limit of 100 and 80, and from the ink side and the base side (measuring from the ink/emulsion side always gives higher readings)

Hanna?
?
I called Epson Support which didnt yield any results, but while I was waiting for them to gt back to me I uninstalled and reinstalled the Epson driver for OS 10.14 a couple of times and it now works great. ?It even saves the presets. I haven't used QCDN V3 yet, but I am confident that it will work and my SpyderPrint as well. It is an extra step when I want to print, but I feel that this is going to save me a lot of time and frustration in the long run.

Larry- I have an Epson p900 and have the same issue with the front poster board feed so please share your advice from Epson if you will. Thanks.

Tracy
For the past year it seems that every time I try to print digital negatives or a gravure plate I have to spend several hours resolving some issue created by an update to the print driver or Apple OS. MY “hope” is that by running a separate system for all my QTR, QCDN, and Print Tool functions I can avoid those issues. The preset issues are annoying but I can deal with that. It is the constant updates that have had me considering giving up the whole “hybrid workflow” at times. If this doesn’t work out I am only out $100 for the MacBook.

Re: New (old) Mac

I spent most of yesterday setting up the new (old) MacBook running Mojave. I installed QTR, QCDN V3, SpyderPrint and the Epson drivers. Most of the time was on chat or the phone to Apple trying to get file sharing to work. Eventually I found the right Apple support tech and he breezed right through the setup no problem. ?The last piece seems to be the Epson print setup. ?I tried printing a plate and the driver doesn’t want to let me print using the front poster board feed. With the settings set for Front Feed it still refuses the media and causes a print error. I will try calling Epson today and see if they can help.

Re: P900 and P908 Questions

Hi Roy,
This worked perfectly. I have only made experimental .qidf (text) and .quad on Mac for a quick grasp of methods, then saved .quad file in P900 folder on Win machine. Printing through Win GUI Quad900 printer showed the curve, and printed with my expected hue (exaggerated for experiement). Top pictur is unmodified (no V) and bottom is modefies (+V). Now for the hard part of creating actual curves, and setting up split-tone curves ... thank you for your help.

No issues here.? My misunderstanding of how this file looks on screen.? Regret the false alarm.

Please ignore this.

Hi,

I use QTR 2.8.2 on a Mac Studio and EPSON P800 printer.? I do both digital inkjet prints and gum bichromate prints.? So far I have been using Photoshop along with custom curve to make digital negatives for my gum printing.? Now I want to use QTR to make my digital negatives.? I wanted to print an ink pattern page to check UV blocking capability.? I find that the inkseparation8.tif in my QuadToneRIP/Images does not have the actual colors..? Please see below.? How do I get a proper inkseparation image for my P800?

Appreciate help in resolving this...

Ramesh

So for Apple Chip computers I'd go to Monterey OS 12.7.6 -- that's what I use on a Studio M1 (2022) machine.
For Intel machines you probably can go there too.
But Mojave OS 10.14.6 is what I stopped at for Intel - MacBook Pro (2019).
You still get to run 32-bit programs which may be useful.

Print-Tool and QTR should run fine on any of these.

Re: New (old) Mac

I wasn’t able to make any prints from photoshop and Print Tool on an Epson 3880 without the print settings defaulting when I hit print. I learned about a work around where I can save a preset in Preview (opening any random document) and save it there then I can open a photo in Photoshop and print using the preset. Very strange way around it, but it worked.

It would help to know what problems you are trying to overcome. I ask because I've been using Mac Studios since they came out. I'm on OS 15.3. The only issue so far is Apple's screw-up saving presets, but that's just an inconvenience as far as I'm concerned. I print using PrintTool, Piezography and color inks with a 3880 and a P6000.

With the exception of the one caveat I mentioned, everything is working just fine. Boutwell's software and the i1Pro 3 spectrophotometer are also working without issues, FWIW.

HTH if I can.
