Re: BS170 pinout
...and it gets even more beautiful :-)
ONSEMI *used* to make BS170 that way... until end of 2021... from April 2022, they seem to follow the Fairchilld way (D-G-S) So, when you buy a batch, I wonder what are the odds to get some from before April 2022, and some after.. Imagine all the mistery and excitement! :-))) |

Re: #qmx PTT Control
#qmx
One more for the pile:
I have both QMX 80-20M and 20-10M versions, both are working like champs, excellent DX all around, running 014 firmware.? But PTT isn't working at all on either version of the QMX, both on the "TX PTT +5V? and "TX PTT grounded"? (open collector, tested with a 10K pullup resistor to 5V) as enabled in band configuration. No output on either, not when transmitting from WSJT (with PTT configured for CAT), not from from by pressing the "p" button in diagnostics in the terminal interface, and not from pressing T either. It's just not working on either radio with pretty much identical behavior.? I'll be glad when this gets fixed up. Meanwhile, is there any work-around? Any point on the board where we can pull a PTT signal from? What about the terrible hack of a current sensor on the QMX power input that triggers a relay? Might be more preferable than soldering to the board. Coincidentally, I've also only noticed this as I begin to experiment with the 50W amp. Cheers, Andy KA1PLU |

I'd use putty from the Pi.
Minicom is an old terminal emulater. Used it on 386 computers. It sounds like the way it handles end-of-line is not configured properly. If I remember correctly it can either send CR/LF LF or CR at end-of line. Maybe more. Also could be sending X-ON/X-OFF characters. If it's sending extra characters when you hit enter it will send you to screens you don't want. Can't help you with minicom. It's been too long. Try installing putty and use it in serial mode.? -- John KY4WW |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHmmm... I've never used Minicom so don't know why it would comeup at the Configuration screen rather than the normal initial screen.?Did you get the first 5 items on the webpage for QDX is alive and talking? Did you check the items following? ? What results? If nothing else stands out you'll need to do a "forced firmware update" and reload the firmware - See the bottom of the web page. I've never done that, but it doesn't sound difficult. The EPROM chip is between the CPU and the edge of the circuit board. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

I attempted to ENABLE the TX PTT+5 volt setting and encountered the same problem as Adrian, YO3GFH. The ENABLE setting reverts back to DISABLE after leaving the terminal. Other settings such as Transmit (I DISABLED the 11-meter band) and audio gain settings did not revert to their original settings. |

A few things I noticed after playing with this firmware today:
1. The CW-R and Sideband parameters still have no effect when altered via the System Config menu. 2. When entering the "Tune SWR" function, the frequency displayed used to be that of the current VFO setting. i.e. if the radio was tuned to 14.030 MHz, that's what the SWR tuning frequency was set to. Now, when entering the Tune SWR function, the frequency is set to the 80m band. 3. I tried paddles at 20WPM and the keyer still chopped the occasional DAH which, for an MM0 callsign like me, is a bit nippy. 4. The right rotary encoder debouncing still seems a bit off as it can sometimes take a few counter-clockwise clicks before the radio responds. This is most noticeable in the menu system. Not new to this firmware version though. 5. Straight key operation is a joy at 20 WPM-ish so I'm a very happy camper. :o) Cheers, Ronan MM0IVR |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPlease say what do you mean by "confused state". What are you referring to as the "normal" initial screen?? It isn't clear to me what you are experiencing that is a problem. To do a hardware reset you need to open Putty and get to the config screens in the QDX. Normally The TX Threshold is set to zero, but I understand it should work at the default also. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

Request for QMX troubleshooting guidance
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello, ? I have just completed assembly of the 20-to-10 meter QMX. Controls and inputs are good (firmware 1_00_014). Receive works very well¡ªgreat sensitivity. However, no RF output on any band. ? On key-down, CLK2 makes it through the XORs but not through the 7408. The latter¡¯s Tx inputs (2, 3, 10, 13) do not change state on key-down (The IC has power and the CLK2 inputs have signal). Thus there is no RF input to the BS170s. I would be grateful for a suggestion as to where to check next. ? Thank you, Lloyd (wa4efs) |
