Re: ZL1RS balloon flight - BB04

I saw altitudes dropping and was hoping it collected moisture but would dry off and rise again...who knows...anything can happen with these things.
Would not be a first .

Re: Difficulty winding and installing transformer T1 #qcx

I have not received my QCX yet but when I read the procedure for winding T1 my thought was why not wind each one separately?? I have built a lot of kits and wound a lot of toroids and that seems to em to be the best way to do it.

Re: New FB Group

Hello John,

Whilst appreciating your good intent I see no purpose dividing places
to discuss QRP Labs products. I am a member of the Kenwood TS-590
group that spawned a second group, and that is in itself confusing,
but they are now arguing over turning just one over to Groups IO,
which would even further complicate things. I would prefer all info
remained here myself :) I would imagine the group has a fair few old
buffers like myself to whom modern social media like Facebook is a no
go area ;) Pubs are for chit chat, mano a mano :)

Taking another stab at getting my 80m QCX up and running

After much "wailing and gnashing of teeth" I decided to remove the transformer (T-1) and re-wind it. It seems like T-1 is the logical culprit for low receive gain and the inability to adjust C1 for a bandpass peak of more than 2.?

Just for fun I measured the inductance (after I removed it) of each pass with an Agilent U1733C. I went thru the calibration sequence before I took the measurements.

Primary 1: 0.65?H
Secondary 1: 0.34?H
Secondary 2: 0.34?H
Secondary 3: 24.13?H

I bold faced Primary 1 because it has 5 turns on it as does Secondary 1 and Secondary 2. Yet the primary has roughly twice the inductance as S1 and S2.?That doesn't make sense.?

I was not holding the toroid when I made each measurement. I triple checked that I connected correctly. Maybe I'll find something when I unwind all of the turns.?

Before I go tearing everything apart, does anyone have any suggestions? Been there done that??

No new group please!

What use it is to split the group?
None at all I think.

And why can I not reply to the annoncement, but have to start a new topic?

Check solder connections on rotary encoder. I had same problem - no response to long press- found that I had forgotten to solder two pins.?

It's definitely? a trial in self restraint, LOL.

The hand drawn diagram is great and lays it out very well but one does need to be quite dexterous and patient. Hold the coffee until you are done! LOL.

I am new to building and having an extremely difficult time winding and installing T1 for the 40 meter kit. This has been my first effort at winding toroids. Between my eyesight and dexterity it's not coming together by doing it one time with the loops delineating the 5 turn windings. I have done it and redone it a number of times. I find the hand drawn diagram, by WA4MZS on page 50 very clear. Is there any reason why I cannot/should not do the windings separately following the wire winding pattern/sense in the diagram? Thank you for your guidance.

Yes do them separately, I did and it worked out fine.

QCX started buzzing all of a sudden after Q6 Change

Hi All,

Finally got around to change out the Q6 transistor, the initial one got toasted on initial setup. So now its an MPS751 as suggested. My qcx was from the initial batch.

Weird problem that just started happening is that when sending the sidetone seems replaced with just buzzing.... I know the sidetone itselves is fine because in practice mode its sounds just fine.

For Tx power it seems that it is putting about 1-2w output on 13v btw.

any help, tips or inputs greatly appreciated.

regards and 73,

Leo - PA1LDB

Re: I need a QRSS Signal on 477,700 KHz +/_ 100 Hz to test my temporary 630M grabber

Dear Tim,

Thanks for the message and information that your working on getting a QRSS signal on 630 Meters.?? So far, your the only reply I have got.? I did tune another receiver down to the WSPR frequency and hooked it up to my probe antenna do copied some of the 630 Meter WSPR signals.? So It is working.?? Not sure how well yet but it is working.?? I did not receive any confirmed QRSS signals on the grabber so far.
Will await? your notice that your on the air.? After a couple of days testing, I will continue on with my building program to get these last bands active on the grabber.
Take care and have fun.? good luck on getting your QRSS signal on the air.

Re: New QCX build questions - Using the RX for a QRSS grabber.

Dear Keith,
The only cure for the drift problem that I see is using a GPS Stabilized 27 MHz Oscillator fed to the crystal terminals on the receiver board.?? A friend of mine is now building such a board that will take the 10MHz from my GPS stabilized 10MHz oscillator and create a 27MHz signal with 10 outputs to feed to 10 of the QCX receivers in my SUPER GRABBER.?? Then all of the receivers will not drift as their 27MHz Standard will not drift.?? I will post the details to this board when I get them from the guy that is building it.??
Take care and have fun.

My QCX does the same thing. I found that I apparently sparked pin 19 (I think) of the micro controller. It is grounded internally and does that I have a new chip on the way.
