Re: QMX new build no control of volume?
#qmx
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDid the diagnostics tests first thing I tried.? Volume control does not work, other control on right side tests fine.? Control is bad, still looking for source for new one. Thank you? 73? Emory? WM3M On 3/16/2024 7:21 PM, DH8WN@...

Re: QMX - Any progress on key clicks please?
We are with you Hans!
We all know what we are signing up for, or at least we should, when we take part in QRP-Labs. Yes you have helpers in the business, but from an engineering standpoint you are a one man band. Furthermore, you are not resting your back on 25+ year old technology. If I want a multi band, multi mode, extremely modern radio that fits in the palm of my hand, backed by a phalanx of engineers and a highly refined manufacturing process then I¡¯ll be paying easily 10x the cost of a QMX. QRP-Labs is not Icom or Yaesu, or even Elecraft, and it¡¯s a mistake to categorize it as such. 72 and peace to all. |
High Band firmware sweep results
#audio
#swr-sweep
#agc

#qmx
Hey all, I built a 12v high band version running 1_00_017 on a rev 3 board this week.? For the most part, I have been making contacts and enjoying this radio quite a bit.?? I disabled transmit on 11m for now.?
I noticed that if I run an SWR sweep on 11m while disabled it it produces some odd graph results, and those results then continue on other bands.? If I shut down the QMX and avoid SWR graphs on 11m, all the rest graph as expected if not a little high on the upper bands. It also seems that if AGC is on, and you run an audio sweep that the results are not as expected.? AGC has to be off and the QMX reset to get anticipated AF sweep results. Image sweep on 20, almost always produces a strange result on the first run, but on subsequent runs looks as expected. RF sweeps, do not seem to peak except on 11m and 10m... and I am not sure if this is my build, or as expected.? I get mixed results on 10m also.?? I have included some attachments, and would appreciate some thoughts if this is just my build or as expected, or some firmware hic-ups! Thanks! |

Re: QMX high SWR, low power
Found and? fixed! Removed T507, cleaned solder pad holes, rewound T 507, re-installed and it works! Power out into dummy load, and zero (1:1) indications. Proper SWR indications into mismatched antennas.

Re: QMX - Any progress on key clicks please?
Thanks Hans,
As the person starting this particular thread, I am reassured that: a) We have now identified this is a widespread problem, for many of us making the rig unusable on CW. b) It has now been brought to your attention, whereas before I don't think you were fully aware of the extent of the problem c) We have your reassurance is is #1 priority. That works for me! Many thanks Daimon. G4USI |

Hi Dick,
The one per-second flash is the QDX telling you it has received the PTT signal but does not hear enough audio to set the output frequency.? This is most often an issue with the sound settings on the PC.? I am not a strong Linux person, so I can not tell you where exactly to go to the sound settings.? This is in the PC's operating system, not the WSJT-X application.? I found this link on the web: . It might have helpful info. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Greetings everyone - THANK YOU for all the replies!
Boy, did I mess that information up. Cockpit-errors in between trying to get my? Starlink satellite service running after having it shut-down for 4-months (took 2 days of cyclic repeating info from their service folks to get it to work again) So all that frustration messed with my memory-blanker stuff, trying to connect to 10.0.0.x from 192.168.1.x and failing, made me realize I was working between Ubuntu and Win-7. I just finished connecting the QDX to the Ubuntu system and have found after starting wsjt-x and connecting to the QDX the following happens: 1- Radio and Audio tab entries load correctly 2- CAT test passes 3- Power slider maxed-out 4- Press the tune button and the light flashes on.off in 1-sec cycles 5- No RX audio showing on the 'thermometer' (at 0dB) So, I started PUTTY and accessed the QDX successfully. Moved to the test transmitter selection, pressed and held the "t" key to watch the TX light - it cycled smoothly between and off. Also the "Input Analysis" test via PuTTY displays only verticla paralled 'dot' columns with repeating - time spaced - horizontal lines and no data. IF I adjust the sweep time, there is a 'spot' where intermittent text data shows. Also I listened to the TX signal on another receiver and the QDX was TXing fine. I checked the antenna with an analyzer and it is OK, so there should be a signal presented to the QDX. The analyzer displayed reasonable VSWR when the QDX input was checked. My questions now are: - Why the blinking on/off during TX instead of the smooth winking on-to-off and NO ? transmitted signal - Why no RX audio thermometer activity Observations (other than this guy sure does mess up) ? QCX Questions
Hi All,
I have a five year-old QCX kit (40m) and I am finally making some progress building it. You can see the current state of things in the profile pic. I have two questions: 1) In the instructions it states that there are 2 100uh inductors that look like fat resistors. I have found two things that look like fat resistors, but they look like only 40something uh.(yellow purple black gold). Is this a mistake, or did the values get changed sometime during the life of the kit? 2) I seem to have lost two of the 10uF electrolytic capacitors. Does anyone know where the best place in the UK is to get these? Once I have got this done, I have the 20m version of the QCX mini to do. 73! Paul, G7KES/MM. |
IFTx and Apple Phones
Mike Carletta
Well I got the special cable as specified, turned on VOX, turned off Cat time out On my 20-10 meter QMX V3.
For reference I have a Apple SE 2nd gen phone that is upto date on software. I can receive terrific, but when I try to transmit I get output (4w 20 m) for a second or two and then it stops. Can there be another setting I must modify??? Played with changing? the gain without success. Also insured there was enough power to keep the phone happy to no avail. Is there anyone out there that has figured this problem out? |
Re: #qmx One bug and one idea

I've solved this interference using a sharp blade at the head of the thigdent sdrew. The remainig head was sufficient to drive the screw.
But please take care! Dont blame me if you cut more than the screw. |
Re: QMX new build no control of volume?

Yes
diagnostics in the terminal modeshould be the first step. It shows if the encoder works AND the steps are recognized by the processor. If not, there are some possible reasons. Checking the levels / signals at the encoder pins brings more information about the bug. 73, Ludwig |
QCX
I built 2 QCX's. A 40m and a 20M. Both worked perfectly until now. The 40 is still great, but the 20 will not receive stations. It still hears my external signal generator, but not in comimg stations.?
I've narrowed the problem to the first audio in the number 9Test Equipment/9.3 Audio. Ch.1 It is showing random numbers flashing between 45 and 53. I checked the 40M radio and in this same? 9.3 audio it is 14 with no flashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron |
