Re: Is this GPS suitable
Thanks to all those who replied with information and thanks Hans for the datasheet.
I bit the bullet and ordered one today and will report on its suitability in due course.

Re: U QRSS Upgrade Received Safely.
Thanks to Tony (BZB) and Dick (BBH) for their thoughts.
I'm confident I'm not overloading the receiver, I've made it as deaf as
possible and the QRSS TX is well terminated. The signal the RX is

Re: Is this GPS suitable
This one works very well with the v1.04 firmware. It wouldn't work at all
with the v1 and 2. The thing that most recommends it to me is that the same
GPS engine is on sale at nearly three times the

Re: Is this GPS suitable
David makes a good point. A lot of the old school GPS units require an
external active antenna which need to be sited in direct view of the sky.
Newer ones have built in antennas and usually are very

Re: Is this GPS suitable
Probably overkill for the project but this GPS board is a useful tool for
experimentation though the price is up dramatically since I acquired mine.
It does (mine did) come with all the goodies.

Hi folks,
Had taken a gamble and purchased the low voltage version GPS16-LVS on ebay for ?15ish from Hong Kong. Arrived in UK after about 7 days.
When I get the time to interface with the kit I will

Re: Is this GPS suitable
The input voltage is "8 to 40 Vdc unregulated", so it will require a separate DC voltage supply.

Bob
Ok, I couldn't resist googling for the datasheet. See

It does appear to say on page 7, that you would by default see a 100ms

Re: U QRSS Upgrade Received Safely.
It is very common on WSPR to see a double decode several db down on a very
strong signal. It is particularly likely when you are swamping your own
receiving system with a local mept like this. It

Re: Is this GPS suitable
Hi Bob
On the face of it, it looks potentially suitable, because it does claim to
have a 1pps output and a serial output supporting NMEA-0183 and the
required $GPRMC sentence.
The question I would

It may be related to the sound card but that would also show up on off air signals from other stations, particularly on strong signals. I have found that sometimes 100Hz sidebands may be produced if

Generally considered the US AM broadcast band, some 530 - 1710 KHz. Due to

Re: U QRSS Upgrade Received Safely.
Thanks Stephen.
Since last post, WSPR now up and running (across the shack). QRSS into
dummy load and RX made deaf. No padding to call sign field was needed, only
5 characters G8OQW entered.

Re: U QRSS Upgrade Received Safely.
David,
I believe that Hans put that there because some people found the original
cursor a bit difficult when inputting parameters. So that gives you a
choice.
Thanks for the feedback, it really is

Mistake in 160 meter instructions
Guys,
I made a mistake in the slip telling you about the 160 meter output filter.
C5 and C8 should be 820pF and C6 and C7 should be 2.2nF. So if you have
made up the kit please swap C6 and C8 and all
