The idea is to set up a station without the use of grid power.? Simulate a grid down situation and operate on Simplex¡not using the repeaters.? Learning how to operate during a simulation is much better than learning during the actual emergency. ? Volunteers Needed to Support QC Trunk or Treat 2023
We still need volunteers! - Town of Queen Creek Trunk or Treat, 10-21 The Town of Queen Creek has asked for QCECG communications support services for their very large event - Trunk or Treat 2023. We expect about 15,000 to 20,000 attendees. This is a fast paced event for our volunteers. The event is on Saturday, October 21st, and runs for the public from 5 PM till 9 PM. Our participation will be for a (8.0) hour shift from 3 PM till 11 PM, with volunteers ARRIVING at 2:30 PM for check in. This is an opportunity for QCECG members and any licensed local amateur radio operator that is interested in developing/maintaining/enhancing their EMCOMM communications skills. We need at least 10-15 more volunteers to cover the expected assignments. There will be some walking involved since we are shadowing event organizers. We also have a couple of fixed locations, i.e. none-to-limited walking assignments. All you will need is your HT, spare battery, headset or speaker/mike. There will be a follow-up email with more details for volunteers but, for now, we need you to consider the date, check your availability, and support our request. New Net Added to QC Net Calendar - Chandler Ham Radio Club Digital Net
This net is an activity of the Chandler Ham Radio Club (N7CHN). The net is all digital, i.e. no direct repeater access.? It's active every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. This net is held on the Chandler Hams URF847 reflector, a universal, multiprotocol, transcoding digital voice reflector that supports D-Star protocols (DPlus, DCS, DExtra and G3), DMR protocols (MMDVMHost, DMR+ and NXDN), M17, P25 (using IMBE) and YSF. When Disaster Strikes: Prepare, Act, Survive There is a unique opportunity coming up in May. The will be presenting a FREE FEMA course locally:? FEMA Course PER-334: When Disaster Strikes: Prepare, Act, Survive. Our
friends at Mesa East Stake will be hosting this event on May 10th and
May 11th at 2228 E Brown Road, Mesa, 85213.? The exact times will be
announced once the course registration begins at the TEEX website. An announcement will be made when registration can begin and a link to the registration page will be provided. Course Information: Duration: 12 hours over a two day period. Course Size:? The team from TEEX
will be able to accommodate up to 90 registrants, delivering the course
simultaneously in three rooms, each room (24-30 people) with its own
instructor. Audience:? Religious Organizations,
Volunteer Fire Departments, Community Emergency Response Teams, Youth
Organizations, American Red Cross and other Non-Governmental
Organizations, Other Interested Members of the Community CE Credit:? IACET - 1.2 CEUs Pre-registration Requirement:? Students must register with FEMA and bring a copy of their SID number to the class. Register online at .?

professional responder however would be beneficial for the responder's
family.? The training does not qualify the participants to serve in an
emergency responder role. Again, this is a
unique opportunity that the Mesa East Stake has created for our local

presented by emergency management professionals and with absolutely no

International Space Station Visible Tonight (6 minutes!) Folks - Good news! Another opportunity to spot the International Space Station this evening as it passes over our area in Arizona. It should be a great pass and hopefully the clouds will be minimal. It will pass about 69 degrees above the horizon! Treat your family and friends to a viewing of the International Space Station tonight. I find that even the most non-technical family member or friend gets a kick out of seeing the station as it moves across the sky at 17,150 MPH - that's 4.76 miles per second - and about 250 miles above us. If you are an amateur radio operator, take the opportunity to relate how us hams can communicate directly with the ISS or through one of its transponders. The ISS will be visible for 6 minutes and should be a good viewing and becomes visible directly from the Northwest and disappears towards the Southeast.
