The Pacific Community?(SPC) invites applications for the position of?Senior Hydrogeologist?within its Geoscience, Energy and Maritime Division. This position will be located at its regional office in Suva, Fiji.

The?Geoscience Energy and Maritime (GEM) Division?provides advice, technical assistance, research and training support to Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs). There are four (4) areas of scientific programming within this division:

1.?????Oceans and Maritime Programme (OMP)?– assists member countries with services that provide applied ocean science and knowledge for evidence-based policy-making and technical solutions for improved ocean and maritime governance, management and capacity development.

2.?????Georesources and Energy Programme (GEP)?– assists member countries by applying technical knowledge in the areas of geoscience and sustainable energy use.

3.?????Disaster and Community Resilience Programme (DCRP)?– assists member countries to demonstrate strengthened resilience through integrated action on disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, natural resource management and increased access to water and sanitation.

4.?????Earth and Ocean Observation Services –?Promoting spatial data and systems analysis and capacity to improve decision-making to improve resilience and sustainable resource management.

?

The role –?Senior Hydrogeologist?will aid in the identification, and sustainable development and management of water resources across the Pacific region. The Senior Hydrogeologist will draw upon a combination of scientific expertise, project management skills, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the development and implementation of projects associated with the assessment, development, and protection of groundwater resources. The primary focus is on utilizing his/her advanced knowledge of groundwater systems in the Pacific to design, develop and implement projects to further the understanding of groundwater systems, and sustainable development, management and protection of these freshwater resources.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

?

Technical advice and support

??????Provide high quality technical advice and support on water resource assessment, development, management and protection, and project implementation needs at the national and regional levels.?

??????Identify training and capacity needs of SPC and member countries and develop initiatives to address them.

?

Project management

??????Support for implementation and management of projects including?budget development, financial and narrative reporting, and preparation and management of procurements.

??????Ensure administrative and procurement procedures are undertaken in accordance with SPC and project protocols and requirements.

??????Prepare contracts and TOR’s for development and delivery of project activities in accordance with SPC protocols.

?

Networking and communications

??????Promote and develop relationships with member country counterparts, partners, and stakeholders?resulting in improved delivery of project, national and regional water resource initiatives, and resource mobilization, for improved water security, community resilience, freshwater resource protection, management, and sustainability.

??????Ensure accurate, audience focused sensitive water resource information is accessible and available to a wide variety of relevant stakeholders.?

Capacity building

??????Actively support and encourage the development of capacity building to strengthen the long-term capacity of SPC and country counterparts in water resources assessment, monitoring, protection, and resource management, as well as community engagement techniques, people centered approaches and project management through on-the-job training and specially designed training.

??????Design, develop and implement training programs in hydrogeology, geophysics, data analysis, technical reporting, and community engagement skills

?

Provision of high-quality technical, administrative and financial reporting

??????High quality reporting provided on time to meet project and country needs.

?

Resource mobilisation

??????Identify and develop resource mobilisation opportunities to address member country and SPC needs at National and regional level.

Key selection criteria

Qualifications

?

??????A Master of Science degree (MSc) with a specialisation in a relevant field such as hydrogeology, or water resources engineering, or equivalent body of knowledge and experience.

?

Technical expertise

?

??????At least 10 years of experience in water resource assessment and monitoring.

??????At least 8 years demonstrated project management and organisational skills experience

??????Experienced in the application of hydrological data and databases to develop information products.?

??????Demonstrated experience in the use and application of QGIS.

??????Demonstrated experience in groundwater management.

??????Excellent communication and report writing skills.

??????Demonstrated experience of working and managing projects in remote locations.

??????Demonstrated experience in Community engagement.

??????Knowledge of Gender Equity and Social Inclusion, (GESI), and People Centred Approaches (PCA) in delivery of projects.

Salary, terms and conditions

?

Contract Duration?–?3 years??subject to renewal depending on funding and performance.

Remuneration?– The?Senior Hydrogeologist?is a band 12 position in SPC’s 2025 salary scale, with a starting salary range of 3,565?4,456 SDR (special drawing rights) per month, which currently converts to approximately FJD 10,730–13,413 (USD 4,741–5,927; EUR 4,367–5,459).?An offer of appointment for an initial contract will normally be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration given to experience and qualifications.?Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews. Remuneration of expatriate SPC staff members is not subject to income tax in Fiji; Fiji nationals employed by SPC in Fiji will be subject to income tax.

Benefits for international employees based in Fiji –?SPC provides a housing allowance of FJD 1,500–5,200 per month.?Establishment and repatriation grant, removal expenses, airfares, home leave travel, health and life and disability insurances and education allowances are available for eligible employees and their eligible dependents. Employees are entitled to 25 working days of annual leave per annum and other types of leave, and access to SPC’s Provident Fund (contributing 8% of salary, to which SPC adds a 10% contribution).

The Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (FAME) Division is one of SPC’s oldest Divisions and it has been providing scientific and technical expertise to support fisheries management and sustainable development in the Pacific for over 60 years. FAME’s goal is that fisheries resources of the Pacific region are sustainably managed for economic growth, food security and environmental conservation. FAME includes the Oceanic Fisheries Programme (OFP) and Coastal Fisheries Programme (CFP). OFP is the region’s centre for oceanic fisheries science and information, providing essential data collection, data management and modelling and analysis services to the Pacific. CFP provides science and technical support to PICTs to enhance the management of coastal fisheries, and the sustainable development of aquaculture and nearshore livelihoods across the region. The work of OFP and CFP are supported by the FAME Director’s Office, which includes the Information Section, communications, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

The role – the Fisheries Data Engineer/Analyst will support the enhanced development and processes for data management, analysis, and reporting ; continuously evaluate and improve data management systems to support science and management of regional tuna fisheries ; lead work with members to improve data quality and engage with OFP sections and other divisions within SPC (e.g., PHD, SDD, PCCOS) on data-related matters and data quality.

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

Data management services for WCPFC

??????? Develop and maintain routines for management and reporting of fishery data for Member countries

??????? Develop efficient and user-friendly approaches for scientists and staff to access and appropriately use data assets

??????? Collaborate with the Regional Data Manager to improve data management systems

??????? Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth data exchange and collaboration

??????? Monitor and report on the status of data loaded into the regional master database

??????? Implement data integration processes to ensure comprehensive and coherent datasets

??????? Generate regular reports on data availability and gaps

??????? Design and implement Data Quality (DQ) routines to identify and rectify data discrepancies and errors, in collaboration with Data Management Section staff

??????? Collaborate with the Regional ER Technical Coordinator to adhere to data and data quality standards

??????? Monitor data quality and initiate corrective actions as needed for logbook, port sampling, unloadings, transhipment, and other data sources

Process improvement and innovation

??????? Continuously assess existing data management processes, propose and implement improvements

??????? Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data handling technologies and recommend their implementation as appropriate

??????? Identify opportunities for innovation in data collection, auditing, storage, and analysis

??????? Develop comprehensive metadata for regional databases according to good practice standards

??????? Develop robust and effective database documentation to catalogue data assets for increased usability

??????? Enhance user data experiences by curating appropriate reporting databases, data views, and tools for enhanced efficiency, consistency, and transparency

Data analysis and support for scientific work

??????? Conduct descriptive and statistical analyses to support stakeholders with data and science-related queries

??????? Collaborate with Member countries, WCPFC, FFA, and PNA in data-related matters for scientific projects

??????? Regularly update the database to include new data and research outcomes

??????? Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data management efforts with broader organizational goals

Capacity building of section staff in contemporary data management good practices

An offer of appointment for an initial contract will be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration being given to experience and qualifications. Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews. SPC salaries are not presently subject to income tax in New Caledonia.

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

Training and user assistance

????? Conduct training at SPC and in countries on the use of SPC developed databases and mobile applications for coastal fisheries and aquaculture data collection and analysis.

????? Provide first level of support to users of FAME databases and mobile applications.

????? Participate to the elaboration of training materials and training videos in support to data collection and data entry.

?

Software development and maintenance

????? Participate in the development and maintenance of online and mobile database frontends.

????? Participate in the migration, development and maintenance of FAME and CBFM Drupal web sites and provide assistance and training to content providers.

????? Install and maintain in-country servers and associated databases if necessary.

?

Regional data repository

????? Participate in the inventory and collection of existing datasets, reports and document metadata for those datasets and documents.

????? Transform and clean country datasets if required so that they can be analysed and imported in a data warehouse.

?

Promote inter-agency networking and cross-sectoral collaboration

????? Liaise and work closely with other work areas under the PEUMP programme for the betterment of databases and information in support of community-based fisheries management.

????? Develop and promote collaborations with other sections within SPC on issues such as gender, equity, disability and social inclusion, food security, small-scale livelihoods, climate change adaptation, etc.

?

Section administration and communication

????? Assist the Coastal Fisheries Information and Database Manager to develop annual work plans and reports.

????? Maintain up to date corporate and administrative procedures, including training data for all activities undertaken.

????? Contribute where applicable to Programme, Divisional and Corporate publications, such as Fisheries Newsletters and PEUMP programme articles and reports.

????? Produce reports for all activities undertaken in the appropriate format for the activity including technical reports and trip reports, and input to funding proposals, donor reports.

????? Fill in for staff when they are on leave or duty travel, when required.

Project Description:
The EmpowerHER Project aims to improve equality, enjoyment of human rights, and freedom from sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for women and girls in Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
This will be achieved by:
1. Strengthening community, civil society, and government capacity to prevent, respond to, and protect women and girls from SGBV.
2. Improving government accountability and transparency in delivering gender-responsive public services for SGBV survivors.
3. Enhancing data collection, policy implementation, and resourcing for SGBV prevention and response services.

EmpowerHER will take a locally driven, survivor-centered, and culturally sensitive approach, working closely with civil society organizations (CSOs), women’s rights organizations (WROs), community and religious leaders, and government institutions. The project directly supports the three countries’ key national action plans (NAPs), policies and legal frameworks to strengthen implementation, coordination and sustainable resourcing for SGBV, including the National Approach to Eliminating SGBV in Kiribati (2011-21); Solomon Islands’ National Policy to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) (2021-27) and Family Protection Act (2014); and Tonga’s National Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (GE) Policy and Strategic Plan of Action (2019-25).

About the work
The Field Manager (FM) is the most senior regionally-based member of the project management team and is responsible for the day-to-day management of project affairs and delivery of the project in accordance with the stated expectations and objectives of Alinea International and Global Affairs Canada. In doing this (s)he will exercise sound judgment and keep project goals and objectives clearly in view. The FM plays a critical role in achieving a successful project. The FM will work in close cooperation with Canadian and local counterparts within the Project, and with local implementing partners based in the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Kiribati. The FM must build trusting relationships with implementing partners and with stakeholders and beneficiaries and be an excellent problem solver and leader.

The FM will approach their work in a gender inclusive and participatory manner that provides equal opportunity to diverse individuals and groups considering intersectional identity factors such as gender, race, sexual orientation and others. The FM will focus on applying participatory capacity building approaches in all their work and adopt a gender mainstreaming approach in the design of pilot projects and programs. The FM will report to the Canadian Project Director and liaise with the project’s technical advisors in gender equality (GE), human rights, monitoring, evaluation & learning (MEL), and governance.

The Role
1. Project Management & Implementation
? Lead the day-to-day management of the project in Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
? Ensure timely implementation of activities outlined in the Annual Work Plan (AWP), ensuring alignment with donor expectations.
? Supervise the local project team, as well as consultants, and implementing partners, ensuring adherence to project objectives.
? Provide oversight and support for community-based SGBV prevention and response initiatives, including training, advocacy, and service delivery.
? Oversee the establishment of community-led monitoring mechanisms for SGBV service provision.
? Provide leadership, advice and conduct technical writing related to the preparation of key project documents: Project Implementation Plan, Annual Work Plan(s) (AWP), Operational Reports/Semi-Annual Reports, and other Project reports as needed;
? Design and monitor Project activities, particularly capacity development activities, and apply Project quality standards consistently to all activities in order to achieve expected project results using a Results Based Management (RBM) approach;

2. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
? Foster strong partnerships with local and national governments, CSOs/WROs, and community leaders.

? Represent the project in national and regional policy dialogues on SGBV prevention, gender-responsive governance, and women’s rights.
? Build strategic networks with donor agencies, UN bodies, and other development partners working on SGBV issues.

3. Capacity Building & Technical Support
? Support CSOs/WROs in developing advocacy campaigns and monitoring government SGBV responses.
? Train government staff, social workers, and law enforcement officers on trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches.
? Work closely with the project’s gender and governance specialists to develop culturally appropriate training materials and policy guidelines.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL), and Reporting
? Support the Project MEL Officer to ensure project activities meet monitoring and evaluation (M&E) indicators and donor reporting requirements.
? Support the analysis of gender-sensitive data on SGBV incidence, response, and policy implementation.
? Prepare quarterly and annual reports on project progress, highlighting key achievements and lessons learned.
? Lead participatory learning sessions to refine project approaches based on community feedback and evolving needs.

5. Financial & Administrative Oversight
? Manage project budgets and expenditures in coordination with the Canadian financial team and with the Suva-based finance team (approx. $1M CAD/yr)
? Ensure compliance with Alinea’s policies and donor financial regulations.

Required Qualifications:
? An undergraduate qualification or Master’s degree in a relevant field (International Development, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field)
? Minimum 10 years of experience in project management, gender equality programming, SGBV response, or governance.
? Demonstrated experience working in the Pacific Islands on gender, human rights, or governance-related projects.
? Proven ability to manage multi-country programs and diverse teams in complex, cross-cultural settings.
? Experience in government engagement, policy advocacy, and stakeholder coordination.
? Strong understanding of human rights-based and survivor-centered approaches to SGBV prevention.
? Knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) frameworks and experience in M&E and donor reporting.
? Fluency in English (written and spoken) and strong writing and communication skills.

The Role
1. Technical Leadership on SGBV Prevention and Response
? Provide technical expertise on SGBV prevention, protection, and response strategies aligned with national and regional frameworks.
? Ensure all project interventions use a survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based approach.
? Lead the development and adaptation of training materials, guidelines, and tools for SGBV prevention and response services.
? Ensure that climate-related emergencies and their impact on SGBV risks are integrated into project strategies.

2. Capacity Building and Training
? Design and conduct trainings for government, CSOs, frontline service providers (healthcare, police, social workers), and community leaders on:
o Survivor-centered approaches

Project Description:
The EmpowerHER Project aims to improve equality, enjoyment of human rights, and freedom from sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for women and girls in Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
This will be achieved by:
1. Strengthening community, civil society, and government capacity to prevent, respond to, and protect women and girls from SGBV.
2. Improving government accountability and transparency in delivering gender-responsive public services for SGBV survivors.
3. Enhancing data collection, policy implementation, and resourcing for SGBV prevention and response services.

EmpowerHER will take a locally driven, survivor-centered, and culturally sensitive approach, working closely with civil society organizations (CSOs), women’s rights organizations (WROs), community and religious leaders, and government institutions. The project directly supports the three countries’ key national action plans (NAPs), policies and legal frameworks to strengthen implementation, coordination and sustainable resourcing for SGBV, including the National Approach to Eliminating SGBV in Kiribati (2011-21); Solomon Islands’ National Policy to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) (2021-27) and Family Protection Act (2014); and Tonga’s National Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (GE) Policy and Strategic Plan of Action (2019-25).

About the work
The Field Manager (FM) is the most senior regionally-based member of the project management team and is responsible for the day-to-day management of project affairs and delivery of the project in accordance with the stated expectations and objectives of Alinea International and Global Affairs Canada. In doing this (s)he will exercise sound judgment and keep project goals and objectives clearly in view. The FM plays a critical role in achieving a successful project. The FM will work in close cooperation with Canadian and local counterparts within the Project, and with local implementing partners based in the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Kiribati. The FM must build trusting relationships with implementing partners and with stakeholders and beneficiaries and be an excellent problem solver and leader.

The FM will approach their work in a gender inclusive and participatory manner that provides equal opportunity to diverse individuals and groups considering intersectional identity factors such as gender, race, sexual orientation and others. The FM will focus on applying participatory capacity building approaches in all their work and adopt a gender mainstreaming approach in the design of pilot projects and programs. The FM will report to the Canadian Project Director and liaise with the project’s technical advisors in gender equality (GE), human rights, monitoring, evaluation & learning (MEL), and governance.

The Role
1. Project Management & Implementation
? Lead the day-to-day management of the project in Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Tonga.
? Ensure timely implementation of activities outlined in the Annual Work Plan (AWP), ensuring alignment with donor expectations.
? Supervise the local project team, as well as consultants, and implementing partners, ensuring adherence to project objectives.
? Provide oversight and support for community-based SGBV prevention and response initiatives, including training, advocacy, and service delivery.
? Oversee the establishment of community-led monitoring mechanisms for SGBV service provision.
? Provide leadership, advice and conduct technical writing related to the preparation of key project documents: Project Implementation Plan, Annual Work Plan(s) (AWP), Operational Reports/Semi-Annual Reports, and other Project reports as needed;
? Design and monitor Project activities, particularly capacity development activities, and apply Project quality standards consistently to all activities in order to achieve expected project results using a Results Based Management (RBM) approach;
? Monitor progress, risks, and challenges, taking proactive measures to ensure project success.
? Ensure that all project activities align with gender-sensitive, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered approaches.

2. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
? Foster strong partnerships with local and national governments, CSOs/WROs, and community leaders.
? Facilitate regular coordination meetings with project partners, government representatives, and civil society groups.
? Represent the project in national and regional policy dialogues on SGBV prevention, gender-responsive governance, and women’s rights.
? Build strategic networks with donor agencies, UN bodies, and other development partners working on SGBV issues.

3. Capacity Building & Technical Support
? Support CSOs/WROs in developing advocacy campaigns and monitoring government SGBV responses.
? Train government staff, social workers, and law enforcement officers on trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches.
? Work closely with the project’s gender and governance specialists to develop culturally appropriate training materials and policy guidelines.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL), and Reporting
? Support the Project MEL Officer to ensure project activities meet monitoring and evaluation (M&E) indicators and donor reporting requirements.
? Support the analysis of gender-sensitive data on SGBV incidence, response, and policy implementation.
? Prepare quarterly and annual reports on project progress, highlighting key achievements and lessons learned.
? Lead participatory learning sessions to refine project approaches based on community feedback and evolving needs.

5. Financial & Administrative Oversight
? Manage project budgets and expenditures in coordination with the Canadian financial team and with the Suva-based finance team (approx. $1M CAD/yr)
? Ensure compliance with Alinea’s policies and donor financial regulations.

Required Qualifications:
? An undergraduate qualification or Master’s degree in a relevant field (International Development, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field)
? Minimum 10 years of experience in project management, gender equality programming, SGBV response, or governance.
? Demonstrated experience working in the Pacific Islands on gender, human rights, or governance-related projects.
? Proven ability to manage multi-country programs and diverse teams in complex, cross-cultural settings.
? Experience in government engagement, policy advocacy, and stakeholder coordination.
? Strong understanding of human rights-based and survivor-centered approaches to SGBV prevention.
? Knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) frameworks and experience in M&E and donor reporting.

The Specialist will work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), and community leaders to promote survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based approaches to SGBV prevention and response.

The Role
1. Technical Leadership on SGBV Prevention and Response
? Provide technical expertise on SGBV prevention, protection, and response strategies aligned with national and regional frameworks.
? Ensure all project interventions use a survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and rights-based approach.
? Lead the development and adaptation of training materials, guidelines, and tools for SGBV prevention and response services.
? Ensure that climate-related emergencies and their impact on SGBV risks are integrated into project strategies.

2. Capacity Building and Training
? Design and conduct trainings for government, CSOs, frontline service providers (healthcare, police, social workers), and community leaders on:
o Survivor-centered approaches
o Gender-sensitive policing and justice responses
o Trauma-informed healthcare and psychosocial support
o Gender budgeting and resource allocation for SGBV services
? Support men’s and boys’ engagement initiatives to promote positive masculinities and challenge harmful gender norms.

3. Strengthening Coordination and Service Provision
? Facilitate multi-sectoral coordination of health, justice, law enforcement, and social services for survivors.

The Role

The Country Director will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholders, the day-to-day management and technical oversight of the program including all aspects of country portfolio performance and operations.? The Role

The Revenue Generation and Fiscal Assessment will inform the Government of Tuvalu with a comprehensive assessment of Tuvalu's fiscal situation, focusing on its debt position (both external and internal), and identify innovative revenue-generating opportunities. The assignment aims to support Tuvalu in enhancing its financial sustainability by capitalising on its marine and maritime resources, sovereign assets, and emerging opportunities in online revenue streams.

The specific objectives are to: ?

· Assess Tuvalu's fiscal position, with a detailed analysis of its revenue streams and debt situation. ?

· Explore and recommend viable revenue-generation initiatives leveraging national resources. ?

· Develop a strategic roadmap to implement proposed sustainable revenue generation initiatives. ?

About You

Essential qualifications and experience ?

· Post-graduate tertiary qualifications in economics, public finance, accounting, public administration or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. ?

· Experience in a similar role, ideally with a focus on fiscal policy, debt management or revenue generation in a developing country. ?

· Proven ability to provide strategic and tailored advice to government ministers and senior officials within complex organisational and policy settings, preferably within the Pacific. ?

· Demonstrated experience in preparing, monitoring and reporting government fiscal policy and revenue generation strategies. ?

· Demonstrated experience of government accounting systems and related processes, including experience in tax policy, budget formulation, public financial management and familiarity with economic forecasting, revenue analysis, and cost-benefit assessments. ?

· Proven ability and demonstrated experience in relationship management with senior government counterparts and officials and stakeholder engagement. ?

?Preferred experience ?

· Experience within marine and maritime industries revenues. ?

· Experience with digital revenue systems. ?

· Experience working in the Pacific with expert understanding of the macroeconomic challenges unique to Tuvalu.??

The Estates and Infrastructure team is looking for Manager OHS & DISMAC Services. The Manager OHS & DISMAC Services is responsible promoting a culture of safety and disaster resilience. The role is key for influencing policy and implementing a system of awareness and preparedness. The role has a significant influence on USPs risks management strategies to keep safe our staff, students and visitors to the USP.

The key responsibility of the role is to;

  • Leading the development and influence of OHS and DISMAC policy, plans and systems of USP and administering the OHS Compliance certifications for the campuses;
  • Monitoring and reporting on compliance of OHS & DISMAC plans and systems;
  • Establishing and monitoring the University's OHS and DISMAC induction and training programs;
  • Facilitating the investigation or review of accidents, incidents and disaster responses, for continuous improvement of OHS nod DISMAC plans and systems;
  • Assisting with Campus Risk Management mitigation and reporting initiatives.

The incumbent will be expected to travel as required outside of Laucala Campus where the position is based.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for any of these positions, applicants must have:

IOM Solomon Islands is developing a 60-page children's book to raise awareness about climate change and human mobility. Targeted at children aged 12 to 15 years, the book explores the causes, impacts, and adaptive solutions to climate change through the engaging narrative of 12-year-old Lily, her brother Lukas, and their Grandpa John, as they reflect on real-life experiences and family stories.

The selected designer will create approximately 20 illustrations (including front and back cover) that visually capture the book's key themes and make the story accessible and engaging for young readers. The scope of work includes designing the book's cover, all internal illustrations, and layouts, culminating in a print-ready file. All visuals should align with the book's context and messaging to ensure cultural and educational relevance in the South Pacific.

IOM Solomon Islands is developing a 60-page children's book to raise awareness about climate change and human mobility. Targeted at children aged 12 to 15 years, the book explores the causes, impacts, and adaptive solutions to climate change through the engaging narrative of 12-year-old Lily, her brother Lukas, and their Grandpa John, as they reflect on real-life experiences and family stories.

The selected designer will create approximately 20 illustrations (including front and back cover) that visually capture the book's key themes and make the story accessible and engaging for young readers. The scope of work includes designing the book's cover, all internal illustrations, and layouts, culminating in a print-ready file. All visuals should align with the book's context and messaging to ensure cultural and educational relevance in the South Pacific.

The?Land Resources Division (LRD)?provides effective expert scientific advice, capacity building and services on conservation, development and utilisation of plant genetic resources, forest and landscape management, resilient agricultural systems, diversification of livelihood strategies and access to markets to maintain ecosystem services and improve land productivity and the food, nutrition security and resilience of Pacific communities. LRD has expertise in genetic resource conservation, resilient agriculture, biosecurity, pest and disease management, agricultural extension, plant pathology, entomology and animal health. It collaborates with governments, regional organisations, civil society and other SPC divisions to pinpoint the needs and priorities of Pacific countries and communities and provide technical expertise to address them. This mission is realised through four main thematic work areas, or pillars, and a progressively integrated approach to programming that works towards achieving SPC’s development goals.

The role –?Communications Officer?will be responsible for working closely with internal and external counterparts to ensure there is efficient and effective communications and suitable visibility of all activities, projects and programmes implemented by the SPC Land Resources Genetic Resources Pillar. The incumbent is also responsible for the development, dissemination and management of communication and knowledge products and for coordinating relevant communication-related events.

?

The key responsibilities of the role include:

?

Coordinate and manage visibility and communication

· Lead Pillar One’s contribution towards implementing the LRD and SPC’s communication strategies and plans for the relevant projects in collaboration with programme staff and project partners/countries.

· Develop appropriate content for media and communications products.

· Actively seek and secure opportunities to promote the work of the Genetic Resources Pillar through traditional media and social media.

· Provide visibility support for projects through relevant communication and medial platforms.

?

Coordinate and manage information and knowledge production

· Collaborate with the ICKM Adviser, LRD communications team and Knowledge Management officer on the management and production of knowledge products.

· Work with technical teams within the Genetic Resources Pillar and across projects and relevant divisions on the development and dissemination of technical briefs.

?

Support effective advocacy, outreach and new partnerships

· Establish and maintain linkages and relationships with relevant stakeholders, including media outlets.

· Promote links and collaboration with technical and communication teams across relevant SPC programmes and divisions.

· Provide support for LRD divisional communications and knowledge aligned to SPC and donor and partner communications guidelines.

· Work collaboratively with other LRD communications officers and the ICKM Adviser.

Contribute to the development of tools and approaches to support communication, visibility, and knowledge management

· Develop user-friendly tools and systems to support the Genetic Resources teams in communication and visibility.

· In consultation with the LRD Knowledge management officer and ICKM Adviser, develop user-friendly tools and systems to support the coordination of knowledge collation in line with the LRD ICKM strategy.

· A degree in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, media relations or equivalent body of knowledge and experience.

Technical expertise

· At least 5 years communications related experience in a regional or international context.

· Experience in digital communications.

· Proven experience in designing a range of communication materials and multimedia products.

· Social media management experience.

· Experience drafting, implementing, and monitoring communications strategies.

· Ability to convey complex messages to different audiences.

· Photography and video skills.

· Excellent verbal and writing skills and an eye for detail.

Salary, terms and conditions

Contract Duration – Until 31 January 2028 –?subject to renewal depending on funding and performance.

Remuneration –?The Communications Officer is a band 8 position in SPC’s 2025 salary scale, with a starting salary range of 2,044?2,555 SDR (special drawing rights) per month, which currently converts to approximately FJD 6,152–7,691 (USD 2,719–3,398; EUR 2,504–3,130).?An offer of appointment for an initial contract will normally be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration given to experience and qualifications.?Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews. Remuneration of expatriate SPC staff members is not subject to income tax in Fiji; Fiji nationals employed by SPC in Fiji will be subject to income tax.

?

Benefits for international employees based in Fiji – SPC provides a housing allowance of FJD 1,500–5,200 per month.?Establishment and repatriation grant, removal expenses, airfares, home leave travel, health and life and disability insurances and education allowances are available for eligible employees and their eligible dependents. Employees are entitled to 25 working days of annual leave per annum and other types of leave, and access to SPC’s Provident Fund (contributing 8% of salary, to which SPC adds a 10% contribution).

Languages – SPC’s working languages are English and French.
