Hooked On Driving August 8-9 at The Ridge in Shelton WA
HOD is at The Ridge Motorsports Park again in Shelton, WA this Thursday & Friday August 8th & 9th. The Ridge was always my favorite track for 928 driving, so go to Hooked On Driving "dot com" and sign up if you and your car are ready. My #41 Stock Car ran great in the morning at the Ridge last time, but my Rear End Cooler broke...... Got a new one but it won't fit the mounts so making either mount modifications or just connecting hoses & running without the cooler - Even though it will be fairly hot, the 20 minute sessions shouldn't stress my differential. Let me know if any questions. Keith Martin 1980 5 speed, LSD, S4 Brakes & Wing, S spoiler, Euro S cams

Risky Business 928 For Sale
Wow - One of the three 1979 928¡¯s used in Risky Business is going on the auction block this month. They figure it will bring at least $1.4 million. https://www.autoblog.com/2024/08/03/porsche-928-from-risky-business-up-for-auction-expected-to-fetch-at-least-1-4-million/ Gee, since the 1980 like mine has many improvements over the 1979, maybe I should just let mine go for a measly $1.5 million¡¡. CIS running lean
What causes the CIS to run lean? Pressure testing the WUR shows everything within spec. The CO screw was adjusted based on fuel flow on an open port on the fuel distributor. But my plugs are white.

No start
4
So, playing with the fuel system and WUR System and control pressure are within specs. I adjusted the air valve idle mixture screw with a spare injector, per the WSM. pulled the plugs and spun the motor to make sure no excess fuel was present in the cylinders. Now, I have a no start condition. Engine will start with no starting fluid, butdies quickly What could I have overlooked?

Engineless 928
Hello everyone, I still haven't completely given up on the f136 /928 project. Does anyone know of an engineless 928 in the south sound that I can set this engine into for some feasibility checks? Don't really have room for a whole 2nd 928 at the house, but if someone has an empty bay near tacoma, I'd love to lower an engine in and see how much I'd have to cut to get it to work. I'd also take a 944 at this point, since I think the subframe and oil pan config are more swap friendly in that car. Jeff Evans

Springs
3
Have a pair of NIB Weltmeister springs and a pair of stock springs for free if anyone wants or needs them. I think the new ones are rears and the stocks are fronts but would have to slide under the car to be sure. Bought them for drop springs but they didn¡¯t really drop the car any so put them back in the box.

WUR questions
11
Keeping on with my CIS testing. I have a 79 with a 063 WUR. The WUR was rebuilt 6 years ago, and has 4,000 miles on it. I had assumed that the top vacuum port on the WUR was supposed to hold vacuum, and that the lower port was to be vented. In my case, the top port is connected to the right side of the TB, while the lower port is connected to the rear of the TB But the top port does not hold vacuum, while the lower one does. Also, I went to go check my control and system pressures. My kit came fitted with M12x1.5 inverted flare fittings. But the hard line on the WUR has 10x1 fittings, both in the body side and the flare side. Any idea where I could find an adapter? Cheers

The Ridge (Shelton) Motorsports Park
Still no group members showing up for Hooked On Driving. Following up from my message 2 weeks ago, HOD is back at the Ridge in Shelton tomorrow - Thursday June 20th. My #41 is back firmly on it's wheels (after fuel system clean-out - turns out the "in tank" PSI hose from the Fuel Pump was broken) and should be rockin' & rollin'. You can still sign up tonight or show up tomorrow by 7 AM to get your car on the track. There is room in C-Advanced (I will be leading that group of only 8 drivers), B - Intermediate (13 drivers), and A-Solo - Not enough coaches for late sign up if you need to be A Novice with Coach. I am also slated to perform Advanced Coaching if you are a "B" Driver and want a Coach for a session. The Ridge is a fantastic track - Was by far my favorite track for the 928. Hope to see some folks there. Keith Martin 1980 Metallic Black 5 speed with a few late model options.......

Free large resonators (North Seattle)
3
Hi all, Long time lister Jerry G has been doing some storage cleaning and found the two mid "large" resonators that had been replaced by small mufflers on his long gone 87S4. These look pretty clean coming from a low mile S4 before being removed. They are available for free if anyone wants them. Note: These have been cut from the pipes, so it's just the two resonators. Pics below. Let me know and I can put you in touch with Jerry......otherwise they'll be heading to the recycler. P.S. date code of 07/86 for those of you that do that kind of thing :) .

Misfire from fuel injector?
6
I am tracing down a misfire. Occurs only at idle. Opening the throttle and it goes away. Last season I was chasing the same issue. New plugs. Tested and cleaned plug wires. As I understand it, the injectors have a screen in them that can get clogged. So, at idle, the standard fuel pressure is not enough to cause it to fire But when the throttle is opened, there is enough pressure to overcome the blockage in the filter and allow it to fire. Anyone had this happen to them?

Surging cold idle
9
Hey all, Back in the US. Got the car put of storage. 1979 with CIS. new injectors, fuel regulator rebuilt. Vacuum hoses replaced with silicon a few years back. I have a surging idle when cold. Normally, this is the AAV. I have tried pinching off the output hose, but it makes no difference. What else should I be checking? Cheers

Xpipe mod - flared ends
2
Howdy all, considering a wild hair (hare?) improvement the connection from the Xpipes to the cat back section by either heating with OA and flaring the pipes and eliminate the band clamps that are unsightly and seal half ass. Alternatively I could weld on two donor ends as well and flare out the Xpipe ends. I MiG welded the rear connection already to my high flow cats and eliminated the rear pair of clamps. I think the doughnut seals (928.111.246.05) and associated Dansk style clamp (928.111.427.00) would make for a quicker and more solid connection and look more Porsche. Dumb idea? Brilliant? I have an annoying exhaust leak which is minor to fix but can hear it. Good day at ERTC - German Car Day
8
Jason and I represented at ERTC German Car day. Beautiful weather and lots of great Porsches amongst other. I got there early enough to make the Center Circle area. First for my "10 footer" 928 that just rolled over 340,000km (approx 211,000 miles). When he put a yellow tag under my windshield wiper I was sure I was being relegated to the back room, so imagine my surprise when he said, follow the Mansory RSQ8 Audi to the Center Circle. !! Even saw Anthony (Sir Mix Alot) being pretty much incognito and ignored by most of the folks around him LOL. Cheers, Tom

85S running again
8
Finally got mine back together and running, but I still have a issue. Took it for a drive and have a vibration when accelerating, the reason I took it apart in the first place. I replaced plugs, plug wires, caps, rotors but something else is wrong. Backed it back into the garage and was going to check the new plugs to see if they are all firing, but the hood release handle popped off, the cable is not budging, so I can¡¯t get the hood open. I¡¯ll dive in at some point this weekend to try to get the hood open and plugs checked out, but what are your thoughts? Clearly a cylinder isn¡¯t firing, could it be injectors?
