Klingmann/Clingman in Pennsylvania 5
Dear Listers, This will be too long, and I apologize. I subscribed to this list because I don¡¯t know where to start in Pennsylvania. Background information first: My search is for further information about Johann Georg (or Hans Georg) Klingmann and his wife ¡°Kathrina¡± age 24, who arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Samuel in 1732. There is another Klingmann couple on the ship, and I don¡¯t know which of the men with Georg in his name is mine. ¡°Kathrina¡± was born Catharina Frey in Wieblingen-Heidelberg, Baden in 1700, so the age of the Kathrina on the ship is wrong. I didn¡¯t find Georg¡¯s birth, so I don¡¯t know which George, age 25 or 27 (or possibly a wrong age), belongs to her and which Georg belongs to Thoredea. Hans Georg and Catharina were married in Wieblingen-Heidelberg in 1724. Hans Georg and Catharina¡¯s son ¡°Petter¡± (Peter) age 8, was really not quite 8--he was born 19 Apr 1725. Their son Alexander, born 23 May 1729 in Mannheim, Baden is not on the passenger list. No child under three is listed. Possibly he was not yet three when the list was compiled. The 1733 Samuel list does list younger children. Alexander went to North Carolina as a young adult and his life is well-documented there. His grandson, Gen. and Sen. Thomas Lanier Clingman, had absorbed family lore, and some of his letters exist. He gave the correct spelling of Alexander¡¯s wife, Elisabeth Kaiser, stated that he believed that the family lived ¡°in the interior of the state [Pennsylvania]¡±. Thomas went to Germany, probably shortly after the Civil War, but reported being unsuccessful in locating the birthplace of Alexander. A North Carolina professional genealogist went to Pennsylvania on behalf of a client, but found nothing¡ªat the time, he would not have known the names of Alexander¡¯s parents or brother. The family was Lutheran. Both boys should have been confirmed in Pennsylvania. Peter probably married there. The parents must have died there. The parents¡¯ death dates and places are what I especially need. Some family historians assert that Alexander married Maria Elisabeth Ehrenhardt, born in 1730 in Beidesheim, Baden, the daughter of Johannes Ehrenhardt. I don¡¯t believe any documentation of this marriage has been found, and she must have died; Elisabeth Kaiser is almost certainly the mother of all of his children, but their marriage cannot be documented. Her parents lived in North Carolina. Alexander had Ehrenhardt neighbors in North Carolina which suggests that they came from the same general area in Pennsylvania. If anyone can point me in the right direction for finding anything about the lives and deaths of Alexander¡¯s and Peter¡¯s parents, I¡¯ll be very grateful. Thanks for any help! Lila Niemann Garner

SMITH - WERNER - DREIBELBIS Family Photographs
I've recovered two old photographs belonging to the SMITH and WERNER Families of Berks County, PA. The first photograph is identified as the Birthplace of Mabel Susan SMITH WERNER near Dreibelbis Bridge, Berks Co., PA. It is also identified as the Francis SMITH Homestead and appears to be a series of barns with cows in the fenced area in front. The second photograph is also identified as the Birthplace of Mabel Susan SMITH and Francis D. SMITH Homestead and is dated 6 Dec 1910. This photograph includes a young girl sitting atop what appears to be a large doghouse or shed of some kind in front of what appears to be two large homes. I believe that both Mabel and Francis are children of David Zachariah SMITH and his wife Susan F. DREIBELBIS. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Mabel Susan SMITH was b. 6 Dec 1910 in Greenwich Township or Windsor Township, Berks Co., PA to parents David Zachariah SMITH (1875-1914) and Susanna ¡°Susan¡± F. DREIBELBIS (1873-1941) who were married in 1894. Mabel was one of 5 children born to this couple including Mary Elizabeth; Hettie Sarah; David Francis; Kate F.; and Mabel Susan SMITH all born between 1895 and 1911. Mabel married twice, first to Benjamin HONEYFORD (b. 1890) on 10 July 1942 in Alexandria, VA and second to J. Stanley WERNER (1898-1962) and she died in 1998 and is buried in the Mount Zion Cemetery in North Coventry Township, Chester Co., PA. Francis David SMITH was b. 5 Mar 1900 in Pennsylvania to the same parents and married Grace H. ADAM (1904-1990) and they had 5 children including Dorothy May; Earl Leroy; Francis Lee; Robert Carl; and John David SMITH, all born between 1923 and 1942. Francis died 9 Dec 1974. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

BROWN - ROEDER - MOYER - FRICK Family Photograph
I¡¯ve recovered an old photograph identified as Gertie BROWN ROEDER which appears to have been taken some time between 1907 and 1917. Gertie appears to be in her 20¡¯s at the time the photograph was taken. There is no studio or location identified on the photograph, however, after limited research I was able to find the following information regarding Gertie and her family: Gertrude ¡°Gertie¡± or ¡°Gerdie¡± Moyer BROWN was b. May 1895 in Pennsylvania to parents John George BROWN (1866-1918) and Alma Lillian MOYER (1871-1924) who were married 2 Jan 1889 in Schuylkill Co., PA. Gertie was one of 5 children born to this couple including George C.; Mary Ellen; Gertie; Carrie Buelah; and Lucy C. BROWN, all born between 1891 and 1899. Gertie married Joseph Daniel ROEDER (1891-1959) on 14 Jun 1913 in Schuylkill Co., PA and they had a daughter Lillian Caroline ROEDER FRICK (1918-2017). Gertie died 28 Aug 1975 in Allentown, PA and is buried in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Co., PA. Gertie¡¯s daughter died in 2017 and her obituary listed her surviving grandson Glen L. AULENBACH of Wakefield, RI. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Many of the men married German gals could not speak English so pronounced surname as they thought it sounded which made it difficult until DNA to research, DNA sure paid off for our 20 yrs of researching this family. Roll Call? Re: Mast Family from Berks
Ben Ray, Most of the Mast families of Berks trace their citizenship to Guggisberg and Wahlern in Switzerland. If you can trace any of your Mast families to the immigrants, I have a spreadsheet containing every Mast in these two parishes. I can probably trace your immigrants to the earliest records in 1577. I retired, I work for free, and I need a project to fill some slack time. Maybe you missed my previous offer of help during the roll call. May I help you? Yes or no? Bruce Fosnocht bfosnocht@...

Roll Call: ARNOLD
I am interested in the ancestry of the Nicholas ARNOLD, who died in Greenwich Township in 1781. He was of German heritage, as his will was written in German. He had brothers George and Philip. His wife was Eva KOCH and they had 6 offspring: Eva Catherina, Maria Elisabetha, Mary Magdalena, Peter, Susanna, and Nicholas, Jr. I also seek additional information on Jacob Arnold [1795-1840], who was Nicholas¡¯ grandson through Peter Arnold. I am regularly confounded by the existence of another Jacob Arnold in Womelsdorf who is not in my line.

GRUBB - MILLARD Family photograph
I've recovered an old photograph of George GRUBB which was taken at the Isaac S. LACKMAN Studio in Pottstown, PA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with George likely about 7 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding George and his family: George W. GRUBB was b. 1870 in Berks County, PA to parents William Carson GRUBB (1824-1905) and Mary Ann MILLARD (1828-1889). George was one of 10 children born to this couple including Curtis M.; Sarah Jane; May Jane; Elizabeth A.; Allen James; Clara Amanda; Elva or Elvia M.; William M.; Bloomfield F.; George W.; and Onslow Varnell GRUBB, all born between 1854 and 1871. George married Annie L. BENNEY (1871-1957) on 24 Oct 1891 in Norristown or Pottstown, PA and he died Nov 1950 and is buried in the Laureldale Cemetery in Tuckerton, PA. I am hoping to get this precious old photograph back to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

BEESON - BURCHILL Family Photograph
I've recovered an old photograph identified as Mattie BEESON BURCHILL'S baby boy. The photograph was taken at the Bretz Studio in Pottsville, PA when the baby was less than one year old. I'm not sure which of her sons this is but I was able to gather the following information regarding Mattie and her family: Martha ¡°Mattie¡± H. BEESON was b. 23 Apr 1859 in Ohio to parents Edward Jackson BEESON (1817-1893) and Martha W. or H. CLINE or KLINE (1826-1872). Mattie had two siblings, Laura E. BEESON (b. 1847) and Isaac ¡°Ike¡± Newton BEESON (1848-1870). Mattie married Alfred Edward BURCHILL (1856-1933) in 1879 in Pennsylvania and they had 7 children including Clinton; Laura Evelyn; Charles E.; Elizabeth; Florence H.; Alene; and Baby Boy BURCHILL all born between 1880 and 1900. Mattie had three boys, though the last boy appears to have died at birth about 1900, so I believe the photograph is either of Clinton b. 1880, or Charles b. 1884. Mattie died 23 Feb 1939 in Williamsport, PA and she is buried in the Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, PA. I am hoping to return the photograph to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley
