Hello All
In order to get help and let everyone see what I am doing I have just uploaded my first photo via lightroom to Flickr, I now understand how many of you were getting all of the camera information onto the screen on Flickr, can I ask if anyone just uses lightroom as a conduit to other things or does everyone use the catalogue to organise photo's? https://www.flickr.com/photos/156643033@N06/52778735667/in/dateposted-public/ kind Regards Roy |
Roy, Everyone has their own method. I import all images into lightroom where they are copied into a directory based on year, month, date the image was taken. From there I select the ones I want and add them to a catalog based on the event/location name and may add a date to the event/location name if I return there numerous times.? One nice thing about lightroom is that you can add tags to the images as part of your processing to search and find related images. For example your squirrel photo could have tags such as #squirrel, #backyard, #105AFmicro, #<projectname>, etc in order to find related items/themes.? I’ve used lightroom off and on over the years and just now starting to explore masks. I’ve done some to some degree of success but need to delve into it deeper.? I may be stretching your patience here a bit, Below are 2 links to the same image, 1 from a 50mm f1.8 and another from the same lens but with Kenco tubes attached, can anyone tell me what they think they would so with the image where the tubes are used to make it look a little better? -- Kind Regards Roy |
开云体育My workflow is borderline psychotic. ?I wish that was a joke.1. Import photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro) 2. Import photos from Lightroom Catalog into Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro) 3. Review, select and adjust photos in Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro) a. If needed edit in Photoshop (1) If needed process in Silver Efex Pro (2) If needed process in Exposure x7 b. If needed process in Exposure x7 4. Import edited photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro) 5. Export photos (either from Lightroom or Capture One, depending on how I’m using the photos). For a year now, I’ve been planning to get a good disk storage unit hooked up to the MacBook Pro and move the data over. ?For now I’m mainly using the Mac Pro as a NAS device, and for running software that won’t work on the MacBook Pro. For Lightroom specifically, I do my organization as Jon has described. ?Prior to upgrading to the MacBook, and upgrading Capture One, I’d been doing most of my work in Lightroom. Zane

开云体育With this first shot, I’d try seeing what “Auto” does for it. ?Then maybe play with “Clarity", and the “Highlights” and “Shadows” sliders. ?My best advice, start playing, see what changes you like. For the second shot, was this handheld or on a tripod? ?With the insanely shallow DOF you’re playing with, good focus is hard. ?Also, what was your f-stop. ?This image feels like you’re likely pushing the limits of the lens, or shooting hand-held. Both shots were handheld, it was the D7200 but the exif data was not on the image, is this what happens when you use tubes? I had only just got the tubes so I was trying to see what they would do. 1 question, when you play with an image in lightroom does it save all of the changes and overwrite the image or does it save a copy of the changed image?
-- Kind Regards Roy |
As I understand it, Lightroom just saves adjustments in a small file. When you export it then it creates an image file with the adjustments made. This way you can still have the original image for adjustments down the road.? Others with more experience may correct me. Using tubes or a manual focus lens will cause the EXIF data to not show. With your camera, a manual focus lens's info can be entered into the menu system so that it shows. Lightroom saves a copy of the Raw file that has all your adjustments. As for the people on here using tripods and focus rails for their macro, I use neither. After a while, one can judge when what one wants in focus. While I don't use a tripod or focus rail? (except when stacking) I do use a ring flash and it allows me to stop down the aperture so as to maximize the depth of focus. Diffraction is minimal in most cases (depending on how much the image is enlarged). The only negative of a ring flash is that shiny exoskeletons will reflect light resulting in "hot spots" Ladybug Killer by Scott, on Flickr Scott http://www.flickr.com/photos/screaminscott/

开云体育Scott, you’re the expert on this type of photography, seriously. ?I think you’ve just convinced me that I need a ring flash. ?Can you give us an example of what you’re using? ?My focus isn’t bugs, and in thinking about how they’re moving creatures, my advice was horrible.?Zane

开云体育Hi Jon ? The process you describe is how RAW or in the case of Nikon NEF files work.? Very basically, the RAW file is just data with no adjustments whatsoever – it’s data straight off the camera sensor. ? You are correct, any adjustments made to the RAW file are saved in a separate, small file which is referenced when you open the file again.? Naturally you can save different versions and use a different name as with other formats. ? RAW files are lossless unlike some other formats in common usage. ? I hope that helps ? Bob ? PS – I shoot NEF and jpg at the same time so that I have something quickly available without having to spend time processing the image in the RAW [NEF] file.. ? ? ? ? From: Jon

开云体育Lightroom is 100% non-destructive.? So any changes that? you make are stored in an xmp file along side of the raw file so long as you enable the xmp files, otherwise, it is stored in the catalog.? Either way it is non-destructive.?
