Re: System Error Query

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your e-mail.? Be sure to only use valid ascii characters.? Using a null character will create problems in the Access database.??

If you need to restore from your most recent backup, this will get you going:

Re: Missing QSOs

This sounds like treachery given that a backup has always been understood to be COPY of files in another location. That places Onedrive in the malware category for me. I have always kept my log files in a dedicated log file folder in the root of my C drive for no real reasons other than to make it easier to navigate to when I need to and easier to share with another computer. Seems that I out-foxed Microsoft meddling in advance (not that Onedrive will ever inhabit this PC).

Re: Missing QSOs

I am not saying it was simple, but I copied all files from onedrive to a dummy folder on my HDD, not documents folder.? then told windows to stop sync, and then uninstalled onedrive

once I was sure one drive was no longer, i could disable any backup using onedrive, and restore all my docs back to the correct folders

I also found out that the folder you select for logs can be changed, and therefore not in the documents directory

I feel your pain

Re: Missing QSOs

I also joined the group that lost all of my log data.? I did nothing except allow windoze to update my PC.
?
What I did do and not read carefully as noted above on this thread, is when windoze started up the next time, it asked me to do a backup with One Drive.? Since I thought I was using One Drive ONLY for backup I allowed it to do that.
?
BIG MISTAKE.? It backed everything up and removed the local documents under my user name.?
?
When I started AClog I received the error message that the files were no longer in the path and could not be loaded.? All my logs were GONE.
?
This had nothing to do with AClog.? It was all on my allowing One Drive to do a back up.
?
But thankfully Google had many others with this problem.? I did the following and all have returned all programs work and my log it intact!!
?

OneDrive supports backup "Desktop", "Documents" or "Pictures" folders and?move?these folder locations from your local PC to?OneDrive syncing folder.

To get them back, please click OneDrive icon from taskbar notification area >> settings icon >> settings >> Under "Sync and backup", click "manage backup">> uncheck "Documents" folder and save it. (as?shown?in?screenshots?below)

This action should create a new local "Document" folder and stop syncing it with OneDrive. However, for the previous files, it will not be moved back automatically. You need to manually copy it back:

Go to File explorer >> "OneDrive" folder >> Find "Documents" folder under "OneDrive folder >> copy all contents from inside and paste it to your local PC "Documents" folder.

?

?

?

The AClog is a wonderful program and I am glad I can use it.? ?I hope this might help with your lost logs.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your follow up.? We don't have a Club Log download function that merges data, so please use the LoTW option I recommended yesterday, when I answered your question.? ??

You wrote:

I suggested the easiest method in my reply yesterday.? ?/g/N3FJPSoftwareUsers/message/64089

Again, to reiterate, I suggest that you try the All Since download from AC Log's LoTW form, back dated to 1/1/2024.? Please read yesterday's reply in full before you proceed.

Also, be aware that if you go the weekly backup route, each backup contains your entire log, up to the date of that week.? You only have to carefully follow the backup restoration steps once, should you choose that option, instead of the recommended LoTW option.

Enjoy!

I must add something here.

ONE-DRIVE does not turn itself on.? It just doesn’t.? Sometimes on a Windows Update, you will be asked a series of questions.? READ THEM CAREFULLY!? One of them regards a BACKUP, and when you select YES, this is when One-Drive takes over.

One Drive does not just come alive on it’s own one day – that Terminator stuff is only in the movies.? SO FAR.
