Re: Calculate with date
Hi Glenn,
Thanks for your e-mail. I don't recall any other requests for that feature but I think it is a good idea. It shouldn't be that hard to incorporate. I'll definitely see what I can do. 73, Scott N3FJP Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. Calculate with date
glrogers2
Hi Scott,
Would it be possible for you to add the date to the choices under the calculate section. This would allow you to use only QSO's after a certain date in your calculations. The reason I ask is that I have QSL cards going back to 1964. I would like to put all of my contacts in one data base so that if an old call is mentioned while I am in QSO I could check to see if I have ever worked it. Unfortunately some of the awards you apply for only use contacts made at the same QTH so when calculating these I need to exclude all contacts before I moved to my present QTH in August of 1998. 73's Glenn WA5ZJK |

Thanks for your e-mail.? I haven't had too many requests for that feature so it may not make the next revision.? I definitely plan to incorporate it down the line. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... Announcements
Hi All,
I have several N3FJP Software Announcements: N3FJP's PA QSO Party Log 1.0 is now available! Like the rest of my contesting software, this program performs all the functions you have come to expect including: - EASY, intuitive and fun to use! - Checks for duplicates (including partials). - Lists all contacts. - Generate CW via your comm port and play wave files for phone automation. - Writes files for log submission. - Writes ADIF Export file format. - Provides DX spotting via Telnet, your TNC or AGW Packet Engine. - Interfaces with most Elecraft, Icom, Kenwood, Ten-Tec and Yaesu radios. - Provides many current statistics and visual displays. Like all my Amateur Radio Software, this program is included with N3FJP's $39 and $49 (with CD) software package registration.? If you would like to upgrade to the package, I would be glad to apply the amount that you have already registered as a credit towards that purchase.? Please send me an e-mail, and I will let you know your balance. The Amateur Contact Log Call Data has been updated! I have updated the calldata from the FCC and RAC databases as of July 6, 2003.? You can download the data from the ACLog page on www.n3fjp.com/ Amateur Exam 1.1 is now available! I have updated the Amateur Exam study program to include a display of the frequency privileges for all classes of license.? This program is free to anyone, so please share it with anybody you know who may be interested in our great hobby. Amateur Contact Log Upgrade Underway! When I first wrote ACLog in 1998, 16 Meg of RAM was a lot.? For that reason I designed ACLog to access all log data from the hard drive so there would be no limitation to the number of contacts we could log.? The sacrifice was a certain amount of speed for searches and queries. With standard RAM in today's PC's being almost 10-fold (or more), I've decided to see what I can do about adding some pep to the database functions.? Test logs are okay, but I'd much rather work with real ones during the development of this enhancement.? If you have several thousand contacts (or more) in your log, I'd really appreciate it if you would export your log in ACLog format and e-mail it to me for testing. For those of you who still have older PC's as your shack computer (as I do) don't worry.? My plan is to provide the option to use either your RAM or hard drive. Field Day Thanks! Thanks so much for all the kind words regarding the Field Day Network and Field Day Contest Log programs.? I really appreciate it.? Kim and I really enjoyed working so many of you during the contest.? It made a great event even more fun.? If your group used N3FJP software and have pictures of the 2003 event on the web, please send me a link! As always, thanks so much for all your thoughts, suggestions, kind words and spreading the word about my software.? I really appreciate it. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... FDnet 1.7
Eddie Wallace
Our group ran into a simular problem during FD 2002. The five
computers were not using a common referance for log timing. When planning started for our FD 2003 event, we knew that having 10 computers would only make the problem worse. I did some looking on the net and found server/client software that uses a single GPS unit to sync all the computers in a workgroup to the same time (give or take a billionth of a second). The software worked great. ClockWatch Star Sync and the client are shareware, and can be downloaded at Maybe we could talk Scott into a time keeper upgrade to the contest network software??? 73, Eddie KG4EFR |

We ran into a similar problem at Our FD site but we found the problem early,........OP error on my pc I forgot to change the time from the default value to our local time. I noticed the problem early and was able to easily make the correction. we did have one other problem that might be of some interested the groups networking the FD log. Setup: Server - Windows 2k Pro (wired) Clients- 2 Windows XP Pro (wirless) Somewhere around 200 contacts, one of the laptops lost network connectivity. In the process of trying to fix the problem, the laptop was rebooted several times and your program was never able to find the .mdb file again (using the laptop) despite the fact that all the clients had the correct path and had access/permissions to the file. We reloaded the laptop and got the same results, unable to find the file, despite the fact we could see it on the network. We brought in a brand new laptop that was part of the original test setup done the previous week, that consisted of all the above equipment plus one extra laptop. Same problem. We loaded up the program on a new wired XP desktop and it was unable to find the file, either. At all times we could browse to the file and see it on the network. Everyone had full administrative rights. The second laptop and the file server never lost connectivity or were shut down during the contest and there were no problems. Upon completing the contest, we decided to run a few tests. We systematically reboot the remaining computer and were then unable to locate the .mdb file through the log program. Even the server could no longer see the .mdb file through the log program. We then started a "new contest" and found that all computers access the new log file even after shutting down and rebooting, adding new computers, etc. We only logged about 38 contacts in the new test contest and had no problems. What had happened was that when the Laptop lost the network it must have corrupted the log.mdb file on the server. The fix was easy to retrospect We ended up sending the file to Scott and he had it diagnosed and fixed in less than a hour and back to us. FAST SUPPORT! I guess what I'm saying in a network environment make sure you have a good network. Our whole problem was caused by one laptop in a poor wireless area. next year we'll know better. Outside of the above problems we found the program one of the best logging program we've tried, easy to use even for non computer users, very instinctive to use. Incorrect time stamp on FD Netowork 1.7
We used Field Day Network 1.7 for the first time at out FD outing.
The program was running on a Dell laptop with XP Pro. All stations connected fine and the program was GREAT! But after the contest I ran the ASCIILOG.TXT and noticed the time stamp was all messed up! The time on the computer was correct, the UTC offset was correct, but the first time stamp was "1980/01/04 06:48:52" which was really 2003/06/28 18:02:12. Then later down the log these two entries were one after the other; 1980/01/04 19:51:01 2003/06/28 18:18:29 Then from that point on it kept (I am assuming) correct time. I never turned the laptop off or rebooted it for the duration of the contest. I did NOT run the program from a DOS prompt or command screen, but installed and ran it straight from the menu in XP Pro. Has anyone else seen this or have an idea? Thanks Mike WE3U we3u@... |

Thanks for the report.? Keep in mind that the time of the contact is based on the clock of the PC that entered the record.? If one of the PC's did not have the clock properly set then the contacts from that PC will not have a valid time.? If there weren't too many then it is quite possible that the operator corrected the time problem. The time written to the ASCII Log file is the same data that is recorded in your log.? You can click List All to view and edit your complete log.? Odds are that any date problems will be at the bottom of the log since it is sorted on date. You only have to submit the dupe and summary files for your Field Day submittal, so odds are everything is fine.? I do plan to add a feature for next year to allow the clocks of all the PC's on the network to be synchronized. Thanks for your kind words on the software.? I really appreciate it. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... Serving the Amateur Radio Community with general logging and contesting software since 1997. Yes, I definitely plan to add a feature in the next ACLog revision to fill in missing data, however, ACLog will print address labels for QSL cards now if that is what you would like to do.? Just select the record(s) you want to print addresses for and then click print address.? The address for each call will be looked up and printed. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... Ten Tec Orion Rig Interface
Hi All,
Just a quick note to let you know that I have just added code for rig interface with the Ten Tec Orion. It isn’t up on the website yet, but if you are planning to use an Orion for Field Day and wanted to take advantage of the rig interface features I’ll be glad to e-mail you the exe file. Just send me an e-mail and let me know if you need the stand-alone or network version of the exe file. 73, Scott N3FJP Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. |
