Re: Multiple Operator Instances Within ACLog
If you set up ACLog with two separate users on one Windows computer, you will two distinct? environments? that don't overlap. In that case, you will need to install both ACLog and TQSL in both. You can have both running at the same time and switch between them doing a Switch User. That works well for my wife (N5WQ) and I. The only downside is during contests that both of you are participating in as the switch process takes a little time.

My own thought is that a Swiss Army knife is like a generalist who can to a lot of different tasks, none of them very well. Now that I have irritated MM users..... :) My own story is from when I was involved in a club FD operation for several years with N3FJP FD networked loggers (license donated by moi) and almost everyone loved it. At one point new management came in and said that we will be using N1MM for FD because FJP can't do X Y and Z. After I fully documented that FJP *does* do X Y and Z and was met with crickets in response they showed up at FD with their MM-ed PCs and I showed up with my FJP. Of curse they grumbled but I was in charge of the 20m anchor station so they couldn't kick me out. I had FJP up and running in mere minutes and was making contacts while the other guys were messing around with MM trying to get it to work for close to an hour. Fast forward to next the year, it was made clear that I had to use MM. So I gave it a try. And was off into the weeds almost immediately. Had to figure out on the fly how to keep 20 fone running while at the same time going back to correct the entry errors that had been created. Not a great experience. I told them that if they used N1MM next year I would not participate. They did and I retired from FD after my long run. The club has since returned to FJP software and requested my return but I remain "retired" for other unrelated reasons. -- 73 -Jim NU0C |
Re: Multiple Operator Instances Within ACLog
I can't say as I have never needed that functionality but the answer should be somewhere in either the ACLog Help system or the Help system on the LoTW web site.

Multiple Operator Instances Within ACLog
Hi - been using ACLog for a year and love it. Full rig interface - works great. My wife recently passed her Technician, and has a separate TQSL Station Location? - see pic. We use the same Shack, but would like to maintain separate instances of ACLog. Is this possible? Couldn't easily determine a solution. Thanks!

N1MM's power is in the User Defined Contests ("UDC"), but creating and maintaing those is not a simple task that anyone can do.? If the owner of the SMIRK UDC gets tired of the contest, or simply moves on from ham radio, you may be left with an outdated and orphaned contest file.
?
I've used both and I've used both in a networked environment.? I find N3FJP's networking (TCP version) to be easier to get up and running than N1MM's networking.? N1MM is a "swiss army knife" of contesting, where N3FJP is a hammer.? A hammer is easier to use and simplier to setup.? A swiss army knife can do more things, but is more complex to operate.? N1MM has very frequent updates (more so than winlink it seems at times) where as N3FJP is maintenance free.
?
I like both.? I prefer N3FJP's software.? The general radio club I belong to uses it for their field day... and they were a 22A this past year and still the largest in the country (by a long shot) and had the most points as well.? Three of the top five largest Field Day setups last year were in my county.? One uses N3FJP, one migrated to N1MM from paper logs last year, and I don't know about the others.
?
Just my two cents, YMMV.
