Forthcoming Atlas C&O GP7 with Micro-Trains Heavyweights... plausible? Hmmm
8
Maybe but... I'm trying to remember my EARLY years.... very distant.. I remember riding behind E-8s (?) in those years I was more of a "I'm riding on the train!" not what the UK "gricers" called "number crunchers" but first I don't remember a consist in mid-50's with heavyweights on the mainline either. So.. according to some minutiae ... some GP7s did "flock" to the Clifton Forge area and were assigned as needed. But let me go into the "weeds"... the GP7 would need to have steam generators for passenger ... according to quick research <G> that would be 5829-5830 and 5886-5897 so for nit-pickers and rivet counters --- what numbers will Atlas be using. <G> Next.. let's say some of the numbers above were assigned to Clifton Forge... Were heavyweights used on even locals? (I don't know with certainty except) I've seen one photo of a 'mixed" (Hot Springs) with a "rib sided" Pullman behind loco and "heavyweight" combine behind that with caboose.. in 1958 so does that meet your narrow window? (5829 WAS the loco.) So could Clifton Forge assign a GP7 as substitute power if really needed? Maybe? Next when and where the older heavyweights were assigned. Maybe a member of C&O Historical can offer an "official pronouncement but.. I'll stick my neck out ... A GP7 pulling a consist of heavyweights AFTER 52-53 (GP-7 purchases) would no doubt have been an oddity (prompted by substitution) and even a full consist of heavyweights in that time period something that would have prompted someone taking note of and probably a photo. Hey, my fallen flag of choice is "Southern Railway" and I have enough head-scratching in that arena. <g> Gordon Andrews

N scale Classic Cars (Vehicles)
8
I figure that some of you may have layout focused on the steam-diesel transition era and finally tracked down a source of "kits" for appropriate vehicles for my own. Brian Fedoroff has an incredible line of hollow, resin cast vehicles and they're only $4 each. You can view them by searching for Rasputen on Trainboard or by emailing him at Bfedoroff@... and asking him for a current pdf catalog. Has such classics as Packards, Studebakers, and Nashes as well as Chrysler, GM and FMC models. As far as I can tell the most difficult part of making them is painting the chrome trim. I'll soon find out if my hand is still steady enough to do that. Happy Rails and Trails, ~Diane

Forthcoming Atlas C&O GP7 with Micro-Trains Heavyweights... plausible?
3
Atlas has announced for pre-order a pair of Chesapeake and Ohio GP-7 Phase Two locomotives in the blue and gold scheme. Since I'm not a C&O expert, and I suspect someone here is, I'm wondering whether these would be plausible motive power for the Micro-Trains series of C&O heavyweight passenger cars, which are in the tri-color scheme with the later "C&O for Progress" herald (straight, not wavy, line). I am thinking this will work in lieu of not finding a pair of Kato F-units. Cheers, George Irwin

Clarification RPO Details
3
The Southern RPO "steps/grabs" in question were: 60 inches wide (.375 N) and two steps. and 32 inches (.20 N) and two steps. It didn't seem to match the GMM (160-26) Here is a pic of the "narrow" doorway: I'm also curious about use... along side the doors is a vertical grab but only one side .. which suggests the car "orientation" i consist was designated (most probably to insure mail hook mounted to work... so the actual use would be grab the vertical to allow "body/foot orientation to position on step for a moving car. But some photos of other roads show vertical grabs on BOTH sides. Thanks for your comments, suggestions and time. Gordon

RPO detail parts??
4
I'm in the process "bashing" a Southern Railway RPO. I'd bought the "mail hook" to add a few years back. but in looking at photos I noted the grab/steps under the doors ... I've looked but this time "Google" has not been my friend...<G> Anyone know of "grab "details? I tried soldering my own but they are "extremely" delicate. thanks. Gordon Andrews

N scale Southern Pacific Baggage-Dormitory
I didn't construct this car, but did take the rather poor photograph of it to show y'all what is possible to do with Union Station Products' heavyweight sides that Mark Meeks (USP) scribed to aid in the placement of the Archer rivet decals. The SP car is lettered as it was for the movie "Giant". Diane Wolfgram

Rivarossi 79-foot Heavyweight Baggage-Mail Car.
18
I'm wondering if Rivarossi ever offered a 79-foot car with a 64-foot baggage compartment with two doors on each side and a 15-foot mail section on one end of it, or any cars with a 15-foot mail section for that matter. A website with photos of all their old HW cars would be really helpful, but I don't know of one. Diane Wolfgram Butte MT 2 above zero here this morning

Riverosie 79' Cars
Diane: My research shows that the only baggage/lounge cars that Riverossi made both in HO and N scale were 85 feet in length. The prototypes used for their models were unique to the Santa Fe. Sorry, but no models of them were produced. Ira

Joint C&NW/UP rolling stock by Kato

I have recently learned that at some point Kato manufactured prototypical (?) models of joint C&NW/UP equipment from the pre-1955 "Cities" trains. Does anybody know exactly which cars were produced? Thank you. - Kyle

Dulux Gold decals for M-K-T Heavyweight cars in the Pullman Green Scheme
3
Does anyone know if these decals are available? I'm interested in assembling a 7 car Katy Flyer using Micro Trains HW cars and a USRA 4-6-2 to power it. See page 11 of Steve Goens' "Miss Katy in the Lone Star State" for a picture of it in 1943. Happy Rails, ~Diane Wolfgram

M& R Car Sides
Dear friends, as you know I have not participated in discussions for some time, I want to bring back the letter I wrote today, because I still receive requests, I hope this is enough to clarify for the next few times: Dear ( ......) , I haven't made any new bodywork or detail parts for a few years, due to health problems from 2018, but I hope to resume them in the next year. The designs for the new bodies to match the Kato car sides and detail parts, as new detail for S.P. E7 and Santa Fe E6 are ready from 2018, next year I have to develop everything and resume our hobby. With regard to the parts you need, I have not stock anywhere. Moreover, the shipping charges for tracked mails to U.S. are 39 euros up to 1 kg ( I have not been sending untraceable mail since 2017, because three untraceable shipments were lost ).I will post something on NScaleVarnish site when I will be ready. Many Thanks , Roberto
