Re: Joystick (Wingman?)

Thomas Powell

Arcade joysticks will work good for on/off pushbutton type jogging too. Many and cheap on ebay.

If you've ever opened up a pc joystick, you wouldn't go through the
bother, Industrial analog joysticks cost $$$$ if you don't need the
variable rate, I have a simple circuit that lets you use n.o.
pushbuttons to emulate a joystick, gives you pushbutton jogging,
basically what you'd have using the arrow keys, and you can use the
throttle pot for feedrate.

Lots of Big caps

mike

I am getting ready to remount my drives. Can i mount a 10,000 micro-f
capacitor x 80 vdc (which i have) next to each drive (6" away) and
skip the 470 micro-f capacitor?(which i don't have) my powersupply is
52 vdc @8 amps. which essentialy keeps a large battery bank charged.
the current is leveled by a 67,000 micro-f group. the reason i am
looking at this is room issues and (the real fact) that i would
rather use things from my swollen parts box than purchase new.

and i would realy realy like to see mach2 able to use another
parallel port. (even if only the five input pins)

You have to have the force feed back hooked up to current sensors, that way
you could really jam the tool into the work and feel it hit :-)

WOW! great idea! I have DC tachs on my servos that are just hooked
up to panel meters calibrated in IPM. While they are impressive to
visitors, they don't do much for me any more, but with force
feedback, my handheld controller could vibrate the faster my machine
went! One down side is that if I sat the controller down to use the
computer keyboard it would vibrate off the table.

Gotta love this hobby!!

Re: SoftLimits

Really ? didn't know that. Is it in the manual ?

Other point : it seems some beginners have never read the mach2 manual.
There is 2 reasons according to me :

- it's not easy to find on your site (perhaps a web shortcut inside mach2
could be fine).

- it's big

The lack of simple documentation for mach2 gives a lot of similar questions
on the forum, for example it seems a lot of users have problems to
understand limits and referencing, perhaps because it's too complicated in
the manual.

John,

If there was enough interest, Jim Cullins could design a breakout board that
would use two parallel ports. For now, you can use two board.

Hello,
Using two parallel ports seems inevitable for my "gadget" addiction.
Are there dual port "breakout boards" available? Or does one just
install two boards to handle the port pins?
John

Re: Raster to Vector Converion - Try Rasterfratz

Rather than me re-inventing the wheel, has anyone evaluated the
varoious utilities for converting raster images to vector ??
I tried Streamline and own a copy of Corel Trace. Both work but smoothing was a real
problem. I had trouble smoothing what needed smoothing but leaving the detail
alone.

I also use Vector, so I downloaded a copy of Rasterfratz and it worked beautifully. It
works seamlessly with Vector but also exports a DXF. The trial version is free. You
should give it a try. I had a small project that I was able to do using the trial version.
If more of those types of projects come along, I will definitely register. I think the
price is $125. Well worth if for the amount of time it saved me.

You can download it from www.imsrv.com

Re: Where have all my steps gone?

Mike Hammel

Art,

I tested at cv and full stop.

Really doesn't matter, I still loose steps.

I then ran it at 50% speed in cv mode and still lost steps. I am not missing alot, just enough to make me question my repeatability.

Thanks,

I'll do some more testing regarding cv or full stop.

I have my kernal speed set at 45000, would a lower speed help, hurt or make no diff?

Mike:

Half and full step are known to lose steps more easily when under load.
Mach2 does pretty good with them, but not as good as Dos. This is because
the pulse stream of Mach2 while very stable does have phase distortion as a
function of its algorithm. This doesn't affect microsteppers but full and
half steps can be affected unless the driver is very well matched to the
stepper motor.
Its a good thing you have a workaround as this can be very difficult
to track down and fix. Does this happen in Exact Stop or only CV modes??

Hello Art,

I am about to register the software and have a few questions
Is there a run time and a design time version of the OCX
Can I distribute code that uses your OCX
Also I need a "crash course" in using the OCX or some "demo Vb code"

Best regards
peter

StreamLine is OK , I like the ability to edit the vector file after
conversion

I am interested in this primarily to use MACH for engraving and
since it's a hobby the best balance of functionality & price are
of
course important.

I'm not sure what features I should look for, I guess the ability
to
clean up images, smooth curves etc would be useful, i guess they
all
export in .dxf format which is compatible with MACH ??!

Any recommendations greatfully accepted !

Thanx

OXC usage

At this time I can call most of the procedures without Vb problems.
Can somebody tell me what the correct sequence of procedure calls is.

(I.E. what needs to be done to initilize properly and what needs to
be done to release control)

Also can I attach to the current session of Mach2?

Thanks
Peter

What should I expect?

INDECO

Hello all,

Today is the day I will be energizing the 2 servo's and 1 stepper for the first time, and I am not sure what to expect.
I have never seen a system run, let alone build one and run it.
Needless to say...I am a little nervous about throwing the juice to them.
Besides smoke and disappointment, if I have made a mistake...:>( What should I expect the servo's and stepper to do when energized?
Is there anything that may surprise me that I can avoid?
Will the servo's take off as soon as they are energized?
I have not yet set up any limit switches, and the servo's are monsters, with about 500oz in. If they take off like crazy they can do some damage..">(

Thanks, Robin

OCX working

It seems that the OCX is working.
I use the latest Mach235, Vb6 and Windows XP home edition.

The first calls work OK, after a while I get "out of memory", this
is probably related to me not using the OCX properly.

Can anybody share VB experience with me?
Any documentation on the OCX ?
