I think it will only affect voters of that genre. It reinforces my views that nothing is going to be improved by Israel continuing to persecute Palestinians. No, not at all. They certainly do document fashion changes. No, they are quite valuable as biological control agents, pollinators, and food sources for other animals. Aloha, Celeste Rogers

1. Will college campus protests effect the presidential election? I don't expect them to, but they could go viral again and make a difference. 2. Does the killing of the hostage in Gaza effect you views on that situation? It reinforces how ruthless Hamas can be, and I'm assuming that the IDF is telling the truth, but Netanyahu has taken this situation too far, and his notion that a military victory over Hamas is possible and that a military victory will bring peace is absurd. Israel has another Vietnam on its doorstep, and only a political solution will bring peace to the area. 3. Is the constitution a danger to the people? No. 4. Can yearbook photos be used as a gauge of social trends? Of course. All I have to do is look at my 1972 high school yearbook and subsequent college yearbooks to verify that. 5. Should mosquitos be eliminated from the earth? I don't see any purpose to mosquitos, ticks. tapeworms, or other parasites, but I doubt if we can ever eliminate them from the earth. Ed

Friday Five answers August 23 I lost the questions
5
1. This one is from a contributor. I think the answer is a question of degree - I am more suspicious of entities that I can not engage with and even more with ones that I suspect are created out of whole cloth. 2. The question really is what information is available and whether or not any individual is allowed to use that knowledge to make decisions. This one comes from a book I am reading where the theory was posited that denying employers the ability to look at criminal records means certain groups of people are unfairly excluded because there is a higher rate of criminal convictions within that group. In this instance lack of information drives prejudice. 3. RFK dropping out is probably going to help Trump but not as much as it would if all Kennedy voters went for Trump. A certain proportion are going to go for Harris and probably a higher proportion are either going to writein a third party candidate or just not cast a vote. 4. Can't remember the question. 5. After looking at replies - I think the Middle East and all the associated problems are going to be the center of attention for the next hundred years. Apparently the Houthis have won their war - even the Russians are avoiding the Suez Canal.

Friday five: "3. Should the Federal Government get out of the business of subsidizing bad behaviour?" Me: "I have no idea what you are referring to, but don't see any reason for the federal government should do that." Marvin: "I was thinking of stupid stuff like buying bigger houses on largedr lots because mortgage interest in deductible" Now that you mention it, I just read a column this morning describing how the Bank of Japan is offering negative interest rates to encourage borrowing (and hopefully resulting in business investment to drag them out of 30 years of economic stagnation). Arbitragers are borrowing money from Japan at negative interest rates and using those funds to buy US government securities at 5.25% or so and making a killing. No one knows how large this shadow market is, or how much it's costing the USA (and Japan), but some estimates are over a trillion dollars.

1. Should Israel be charged with war crimes for attacking Gaza? No. Hamas has declared a war of annihilation and Israel is defending itself. Hamas can stop the attacks on civilians any time they want to pull out of civilian areas. 2/ Will the new candidate have a better, worse or same chance against Trump? Knowing what we know now - better. 3. If somehow Trump withdrew who would be most likely to take his place? Absolutely no idea. 4. Should Biden resign the presidency? He should have about two years ago - in shame. 5. Who will be the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee? [m-scholars-and-scribes] Re: Fridayda Five July 5
1. What was the most significant executive order ever issued by a president of the US? FDR putting Japanese citizens in our version of concentration camps may well have been the stupidest but I think the most significant was Truman desegregating the Armed Forces in 1947 2. Will Joe Biden drop out of the race for reelection? I can see five alternatives. First he is removed from office under the 25th Amendment. Second he is removed by the party at the convention. Third he resigns of his own accord. Fourth he chooses to not run like LBJ in 1968. And last and best for his legacy is that he is assassinated. 3. Are moral codes universal? Not at all - they vary from person to person. Most of the time though within a small group they tend to merge. 4. Do you expect social unrest after the US election in November? Emphatically yes - the only question is who will be llamed. 5. Should 4th of July fireworks be banned for being detrimental to the environment?
