Re: Planning your night...
When beginning, I used SkySafari to look around with. But settled in with Stellarium and grew with it. Back when looking into AP, it became apparent that PC, not Apple, actually dominated the field.

I clicked the Print button in Telescopus to see what a preview would look like. Holy ink gobbeler! Pretty, but not just a simple list like the tonight's Sky will do. -- SonnyE Sonny's Youtube Channel

I really like skysafari. You can load a 360 image of you viewing location into it and change the time/date to see what might be visible from your back yard. I'm in the redwoods so I've really got to

Re: How much does wind impact imaging
On wind specifically I find that it starts to reflect in my guide graph at about 6mph as reflected by weather apps, not a wind measuring tool, so this is a guess at best. This is with my 8SE at 1457mm

Wind, for me, does not often have a direct impact. I and my equipment are well shielded by the back block wall, and tall foliage growing on the wall. I have a condo complex across a wash (ditch)

Re: How much does wind impact imaging
Brian, What is your image scale (arcsec/px)? With the wind, apart from the bloated stars, the bigger issue for me at my image scale (1.6 arcsec/px)? is the occasional gusts that will cause a big jump
