Re: Is this blue grease from a broken or ruptured bearing?

Thanks buddy! ? Scott found me on CN regarding my original clutch issue with the help of his assistant Tanya i think her name is. ?They said its normal and to wipe it off. ?Apparnetly these bearangs can be cleaned out and repacked. ?Im not going that far this time. ?
Thansk for reposndng bud it wont be my only question... the next post will be what the optimal worm spacing??

Re: Is this blue grease from a broken or ruptured bearing?

Hi Abraham,?

That's nothing to worry about, it's just the normal high pressure type grease the bearings probably came packed to overflowing with when the bearings were manufactured. I'm pretty sure Scott buys standard commercial grade bearings from various sources which can come with lube colored just like that. Standard dinosar oil green seems to the most popular but red or purple or black or white are also out there, mine had this greenish-purple stuff that had broken down from the heat and left blobs of dried out hardened lubricant inside the bearings and a sticky oily goo all over the mount inside and out. Kerosene or mineral spirits will get you all cleaned up, be sure to use clean dry shop air to blow out your solvent completely then let the bearings "dry" for a day or two before relubing with my favorite stuff - SuperLube.?

Cheers/Chip

How do I post photos to this thread? Or edit my posts? I did post some photos to my album of the blue grease.

Is this blue grease from a broken or ruptured bearing?

I regreased and reassembled the Dec of my G11 and didn't see this blue grease at the bearing of the worm wheel. I don't know alot about bearings or these mounts so I'm wondering if something ruptured in there?

What should I do? Wipe it up and continue? I'm using superlube.
Thanks for helping me out!

Re: DEC latency in one direction

Good reply.

You can also switch the cable output between DEC and RA too, and determine if the problem is in the DEC motor etc. ?vs the Gemini unit. ?

Then you can get down to the possibility that the worm coupling may be loose (check those setscrews!)

Best,
Michael?

That was my first thought... but the behavior is uniform regardless of the source of command input. And I did investigate the worm mesh. It is very binary in that on command it either moves or it doesnt. And when it doesnt there is no indication that the motors are straining against something. In fact, there is no indication that the motor is being powered at all. So I have turned to looking at it as a software/electronics issue rather than mechanical or traditional 'user error on device'. The RA axis exhibits none of this.

FS: Gemini-1 and deluxe hand controller

Not long back I was sent a Gemini-1 for repair. Quite a few parts were
toast including both the Qaudrature Decoder ICs, and neither Ren¨¦ nor Scott
had any to sell at the time (*).

So on my no-fix, no fee basis the owner told me to keep it for spares/repair
and found another G1 to replace it.

Since then I've been investigating the motor controller circuitry in the G-1
and set out to re-create the decoder PALs in the G1.

I had what I thought was a workable CUPL file on Thursday when the SOIC to
DIP adapter for my ROM burner turned up.

As I had one of the decoder ICs in hand (3750022-01 Rev. 2) I tried to see
if I could read it. Much to my immense surprise the security fuse had not
been set and I could read it.

This meant that I was able to burn replacement ICs directly from the JEDEC
file and repair this G1.

The upshot is that I have a G-1 and deluxe hand controller available FS here
in UK. I've upgraded the ROM to Level 4 V1.05 and modified the serial port
to put +5V on pin 1 just like the G-2.

I'm asking ?150 plus shipping for it which is my normal repair fee. If
interested please contact me off list [mailto:david.partridge@...]

(*) Since then, Ren¨¦ has sweet talked Aveox into doing a run of these ICs
and has purchased a number of them for his use. If you need them you can
get them from either Ren¨¦ or myself.

Clear, dark skies
David

Re: G11 Dec does not lock after re-greasing.....please help!!

Hahaha! ? I knew it was something obvious and it occurred to me a few times which I quickly brushed off thinking that the clutch works without it. ??

Thanks for the encouragement! ?
Abraham

Re: G11 Dec does not lock after re-greasing.....please help!!

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

You solved it! ?The clutch just locks against the worm wheel. ?
The Oldham coupler doesn¡¯t have anything to do with it; it¡¯s to allow for misalignment of the motor and worm shafts when the worm is adjusted.?

Re: G11 Dec does not lock after re-greasing.....please help!!

I realized that when I lock the dec clutch the saddle moves with the large worm wheel. When the clutch is loosened the worm wheel and the saddle plate move independent of each other. Well uh......the entire assembly can be rotated in Dec regardless of the clutch being tight or not perhaps because the small worm block has been removed from the dec assembly? I took it off first to clean it but didn't realize that it may appear that the clutch works with it ??

Re: G11 Dec does not lock after re-greasing.....please help!!

Abraham,

If your DEC is working, and RA is not (or vice-versa), then take your working axis apart and document step bt step how it is assembled.?

?The other axis must be identical to work correctly.

Michael?
