Re: Firmware 1.15 #firmware

Does this firmware really give the CB band?

Latest firmware file attached, Larry.

Re: Firmware 1.15 #firmware

Hi All! I have an unusual situation and was wondering if someone could provide me with the latest firmware update, or alternate site for the updates, until I can resolve my inability to get to the Lab599 site. Currently I am unable to reach the web site.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Re: Loose AF Gain & RIT Knobs

A small piece of double-sided sticky tape on the end of the encoder shaft. Oddly enough that was what was on mine when I got it so seems like a factory fit solution. Tape was not very sticky so used some regular office tape (doube-sided).

I had the same problem about a year ago. The main board had to be replaced. The U.S.A. service office worked with the head office to isolate the responsible part but it was easier to replace the whole board I think.

Unfortunately, there isn¡¯t much that is user serviceable in the TX-500. The customer service from Lab599 is excellent though and should take care of you so long as parts are available.?

Hi Jo,

Mine did exactly the same last summer. Two diodes inside had fried upon inspection by the UK Lab599 workshop. They said it was most likely caused by a reverse polarity over-current/voltage. I knew this was not the case as I had used the radio that morning to test for a field day. When I went back to the radio, the fuse was popped and the radio dead. The only way I could get the radio back was to accept liability (even though I did NOTHING wrong) and pay about ?40 to get it fixed. They said the was a strong burnt smell when the radio casing was opened.

Not quite sure how, but the diodes which failed delivered a dead short over the power pins on the GX-12 connector. If this tests as a short then most likely you have fried diodes too.

Now I knew I was right and operated the radio correctly and over voltage/current was imposible from a battery that had not been disconnected and has connectors which cannot be reversed.

Very frustrating but it should be an easy fix for the authorised workshop.

I am still convinced it was a bad diode and it took its' mate with it.

Please let me know if you measure a dead short over the power pins.

From the voltmeter integrated in the TX-500 just before the fuse blown

14.4 v? I know the radio is rated at 15 volts maximum, but that is getting close. And where are you getting that voltage reading from?

Re: Fuse burnt and TX-500... mute.

I was tuning the transceiver to the working frequency.

I wasn't on the show. I only use CW mode so no data link plugged in.

The power supply was a little high in voltage (14.4V displayed on the TX) and I lowered it to 13.8V.

That's all.

We need more info. What what are you doing with the radio when the first fuse blew? What mode were you using and did you have a data cable attached at the time, and if so what were you using it for?

Re: Loose AF Gain & RIT Knobs

Pete,

Thanks for your response. ?Some good ideas there. ?I really like the idea of putting a little bit of dielectric grease in the recesses under the knobs as added security against moisture. ?Silicone or contact cement for the knobs also make sense to me. ?Maybe one day an enterprising operator will fashion some 3d printed knobs with set screws. ?I have to admit, though, that I love the tactile feel of the soft rubber ones. ?

On another note, you've got a terrific QRZ page. ?Great to see all that you are doing with QRP!

I'll let you know what I eventually do to keep the knobs on.

Re: Loose AF Gain & RIT Knobs

Mike, I pulled mine off so I could use some deoxit to clean up after salt water spray, and then put dielectric grease into the recess in the body to prevent any future pooling of water there.?

When I put the knobs back on I just secured a cable tie tightly around them. This was meant as a temporary measure, but has actually made it easier to operate the knobs with gloved hands. They've been like this for several months now!

I think a smear of clear silicone would be probably be suitable though, or contact adhesive. Both of these can be peeled back off the shaft without damage.

Interested to know what you eventually end up using.

Does anyone have a solution to prevent these rubber knobs from falling off?? I lost one on a SOTA activation a while back.? It was too cold and windy for a productive search in the snow and rocks!? The ideal solution would keep it on during cold summit activations but allow removal without damage if necessary to open the rig up at some point in the future.? I've heard some folks recommend loctite or hair spray.? Any thoughts / experience?
