CAT control with Split problem
Has anyone here used CAT control (Kenwood protocol) with Split operation? I sometimes like to use the TX-500 in the shack and connect it to the DXLab Suite for rig control and logging. When working CW split, the VFO's (A and B) appear reversed in the rig control application before I transmit, showing that I will be transmitting on the DX station's transmit frequency and listening on the DX station's listening frequency, when of course it should be the opposite. When I actually transmit, the VFO's reverse showing that I am indeed listening and transmitting on the correct frequencies, until I stop transmitting. This is not working as it should. I checked with the DXLab Suite developer, and his TS-2000 is working correctly, showing correct frequencies before and after transmitting (with no VFO reversals like I am seeing). In addition to this being confusing, it causes spots to be incorrect, showing the DX station on the wrong frequency (my transmitting frequency instead of his) with corresponding auto-generated spot note to also show (for example) "down 2" instead of "up 2". It is believed that the problem is in the TX-500 implementation of the Kenwood protocol. I sent a description to Roman (TX-500 Support) but was wondering if anyone has ever observed this behavior.

Re: Lab599 - Windows Defender showing "OpenCandy PUA" (for Windows users, suggest using highly recommended Sandboxing Utility)

Thanks for this info Chris.? It was something I was thinking about but did not know how to investigate.
Much appreciated. 73 -- Greg VA7BC Vancouver, Canada CN89 |
Lab599 - Windows Defender showing "OpenCandy PUA" (for Windows users, suggest using highly recommended Sandboxing Utility)
#firmware
Good Afternoon Fellow Hams! Chris here (KF6YSV) and I've been poking around here for a while, and finally got my Lab599.
I've always been very security conscience, and have a suggestion of potential safeguarding our Window$ PC's from any malware, etc. There is an application, which is now open-source, called "SANDBOXIE". It has been highly recommended on a few security blogs & podcasts, There is a paid/supporter version, but you can always use the free.? I've just ran a Firmware update on my Lab599/TX500 and it worked flawlessly (ran it using Sandboxie w/UAC Administrator) Windows already detected the correct USB driver so didn't have to install corresponding driver) This LAB599 is a run-only application (doesn't install anything in your C:\Program Files\, etc, it is not supposed to install anything else, but with the Windows-Defender barking about OpenCandy, I get Red-Alerts going off in my brain) The great thing is that you can purge the stuff after running the program. Just a suggestion for anyone leery of running any potentially questionable software.? Hope you all appreciate this suggestion. 73's. Chris (KF6YSV) |
Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot
Maybe it's a delay in the audio chain. Some people have experienced audio chip failure (loss of audio). Perhaps this is a symptom of another audio chip problem, possibly being heat related. If it is highly reproducible, possibly Lab599 Support could help. If they can observe it, maybe they can troubleshoot the issue and fix it.

Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot
Hi Matt,? I have never had any discernible delay between keying paddle and rig sending, and that's across a wide range of temperatures including with the rig getting very hot in the sun on a couple of occasions.?? I am inclined to think that what you have experienced is perhaps related to the paddle you're using. Are you able to try it on a different rig in the same environment at some point? It would be interesting to compare. Good luck 73 M3KXZ On Tue, 18 Apr 2023, 04:46 Matt W7MDN via , <MD73=[email protected]> wrote: Fellow TX-500 users: |
Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot
have not experienced this w/my tx-500 or a number of keys... i usually use /p mflas, so swr is always low and rig stays relatively cool or warm, never hot... i will assume none of your CW settings have changed... interesting question, OM, and i hope we can help find a resolution!

Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot
That's interesting.? I ran CW for about an hour last week during a POTA activation, and it was about 80F.? Same radio, same key, but I was using the speaker mic.? I didn't experience any issues.? I was running 50% power, and I did have my radio in a qrpstore.com stand that holds the radio more upright, so perhaps lower power coupled with more airflow helps?

Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot
Are you monitoring directly through the speaker-mic or an external powered speaker? The reason I ask is that I recently bought a small powered speaker made by Anker and this has a small, but annoying latency, even on its analogue 3.5mm jack input. It's not enough to be noticed on receive but when transmitting CW it's just enough to annoy.

Paddle delayed when radio is hot
Fellow TX-500 users:
I've experienced a delay between paddle inputs and actual transmitted signal going out with a 3D printed paddle last summer. Thinking it was the paddle, I exchanged it with the paddle maker and the issue seemed to resolve itself. Today, with a brand new SP4 (N0SA design) paddle, the same thing is happening. Keyeing on the paddle is delayed by a perceptible amount, making keyeing difficult. When I started the SOTA activation, it was in the shade with an outside temp of around 40F and no discernible delay occurred. By the end of the activation, the radio was in direct sunlight with a temp of closer to 50F and the delay was frustratingly obvious. I noticed the radio was warm to the touch, but not burn-your-hands hot. Duty cycle was light, SOTA CW pile-up. Is this delay a symptom of an overheating radio? If not, any other probable causes? |

Re: No Audio
Many thanks for the response, no idea what power it put out at the time my eyes were elsewhere :(
I have sent an email to support@... and also to the US support and yes I know they are for the us but thought they might point me in the right direction but have heard nothing from either of them. I purchased mine from a uk Supplier back in Jan 2022 so past it's warranty date now :( I suppose I could send them an email but they probably will point me to the UAE, that will be a whole lot of problems what with shipping cost, cost of repair then avoiding getting charge VAT when it comes back in? etc. etc. etc. 73 M0KCB |

i wonder, considering the encoder jumping seems to be band(s)pecific, if the problem is RF?That is unlikely, since the problem only occurs when turning the VFO knob. I never do that when transmitting. I wonder if anyone has contacted Lab599 support and what they said. ? -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD |
Re: No Audio
Any idea how much power was being put out when you press the tone button? In firmware updates it's been set to reduce power to 50%. I wonder if RF got back into the rig at a level high enough to damage the audio chip. Hopefully UK supplier will be able to sort you out quickly. 73 M3KXZ?
