Re: Paddle delayed when radio is hot

Hi Matt,?

I have never had any discernible delay between keying paddle and rig sending, and that's across a wide range of temperatures including with the rig getting very hot in the sun on a couple of occasions.??

I am inclined to think that what you have experienced is perhaps related to the paddle you're using. Are you able to try it on a different rig in the same environment at some point? It would be interesting to compare.

Good luck

Fellow TX-500 users:

I've experienced a delay between paddle inputs and actual transmitted signal going out with a 3D printed paddle last summer. Thinking it was the paddle, I exchanged it with the paddle maker and the issue seemed to resolve itself.

Today, with a brand new SP4 (N0SA design) paddle, the same thing is happening. Keyeing on the paddle is delayed by a perceptible amount, making keyeing difficult.

When I started the SOTA activation, it was in the shade with an outside temp of around 40F and no discernible delay occurred. By the end of the activation, the radio was in direct sunlight with a temp of closer to 50F and the delay was frustratingly obvious. I noticed the radio was warm to the touch, but not burn-your-hands hot. Duty cycle was light, SOTA CW pile-up.

Is this delay a symptom of an overheating radio? If not, any other probable causes?
