Welcome Joasia Kubicka

开云体育

Hi Stefan
My parents were married on 22 06 1935 in Mo?odecznie (near Wilno). It was amazing after all their experiences to meet up again in Anders' Army having both been deported to Siberia. I think as I was born 9 month's after the end of the war, I must have been a celebration!! When I got married in 1967 I needed my original birth certificate. When I asked the British, I was told that my papers had sunk to the bottom of the English Channel !!! No further details were forthcoming as to why my papers were all lost. At least I do have a copy of my birth certificate. I did try to contact the British record department some years ago and they were very rude and said that no information could be released, I will try again.I have not tried the Polish Catholic Mission.
Thank you for your help Stefan. By the way did you get my email fore the Memorial wall ?
Regards Joasia

I have passed this message on to the group for their consideration!

By the way, as your parents married in Italy and you were born there, your file would be at the Polish Catholic Mission: ?

Hi Stefan
My father's name was Boles?aw Kubicki and my mother was Aniela Kubicka (B?az?ejewska) They were both sent to ZSSR from Wilno. I have found from one of your links that my father was sent to GRAZOWIEC (ID 21275). This was found in the 'Indeks Represjonowanych'. I am so grateful that your links have led me to this information. Regarding my mother, she was sent to TIOMNAJA in Kazachstan ( I still have a letter which she sent from there). I can't find this place on the map...does anyone know about this camp? Both of my parents then joined Gen Anders army in Persia and ended up in Italy where I was born in 1946. We then came to England and were placed in two camps in the North of England 'Lowther Park' in the Lake District and 'Cark in Cartmel' also in the North of England ( I still remember the camps). We finally settled in Lancaster, Lancashire UK where my parents died in 1979. I left ?Lancaster in 1964 to go to university, got married and had three children. I live in Southsea, Portsmouth, on the Southcoast of England. I am trying to write down the family history for my children and would be grateful if anyone in the group could help or in fact knew my parents.

Hi Joasia

If you try the MOD (see details at http://www.aforgottenodyssey.com/mainref.html#r4 ) you should get a proper reception these days - they will tell you if the records exist, and get you to fill out a next-of-kin report.

Apparently Eve is having trouble with her computer, but the Memorial Wall e-mail should be restored shortly.

Best of luck

Hi Joasia,
I am Stephen Wierzbicki and am also requesting
information from MoD UK. I seem to be a little further
ahead in the process than you at the moment so I
thought it might be helpful if I let you know what
documents you will need to supply to MoD before they
will release any records of service.

I found that replies take about 10 days in UK.
You will have to prove that you are next of Kin (NOK).
To do that you need to do two things (presuming the
person you want details of is deceased):

1. If you are the widow of or the widow is alive you
will require a copy of the service members death
certificate and a copy of the widows marriage
certificate. The widow will also have to complete and
sign MoD Form 1000 (supplied by MoD) to release
service records to the widow without contravening the
UK data protection act. If you want the details sent
to you the widow will have to supply a letter giving
permission.

2. If you believe that you are NOK then you will need
to supply a copy of the deceased service persons death
certificate and a copy of your own birth certificate
stating the relationship. Again if you are not the
legal NOK then you will need to have the birth
certificate of the NOK and a letter agreeing top let
you have the service records. The relavant person will
also have to complete and sign MoD form 1000 to
confirm Kinship.

Hope this is of help and allows you to prepare
documents before the MoD reply with the MoD Form 1000
and make for a quick turn around.

Good luck
Regards
Stephen Wierzbicki

PS Does anyone know how the process works with the
Sikorski Institute? I am still waiting for a reply
from them after three weeks.

Stephen:

I hope I will be proved wrong, but it is possible that you will not
receive a reply from the Sikorski Institute (SI), as has been the
experience of many. Unfortunately the SI is staffed by unpaid and
mainly part time staff and the organisation has to make do with very
limited resources.

Also it is sad to say, but all very true, (but I can say this from
personal experience) that the SI is languishing somewhat behind the
times. You may be better off telephoning and trying to arrange a
personal visit should this be practical.

Above all you will need to be both persistant and patient.

Hello Agreed SI and other organisations like them are not paricularly welcoming of 'help' from 'outsiders'. They are still very much stuck in an understandable time warp and feel they know best how things ought to be done. They are again, understandably very suspicious of peoples motives and as for modern technology, well. It will be someone very talented, presuasive and dplomatic who will be able to break down the defences and gain acces in the fullest sense and truly enable the archives they posses to be fuly accessible and preserved.

Bye 4 now Hela.

Hi there,
?
Have seen your message regarding writing to the MoD for details, I have a letter from them confirming that my uncle was in the British Army, but they will not give further details, which is very frustrating, knowing I am so near, yet still so far away. I have tried various MoD people, but they all come up with the same story. I will persevere, somewhere along the line I will come up trumps.
?
Don't give up the search.

Hi Jo,

?

Yes they came on Monday this week. I had to badger my mother to give them a call last Friday. They said that it would be another 3 weeks then they arrived on Monday!

So probably worth giving them a call New Tel No 0208 8338603 just to see how they are doing. Mrs B Kroll was sorting my stuff out. They are very friendly and helpful.

?

They don’t send you the actual copies of the documents but an English transcript. The info I got was confirmation of date and place of birth, parents names, last address in Poland, arrest date but not camp name deported to. Dates of enlistment and discharge, list of theatre of operations, promotions, medals/awards and summary of former service, service and history.

The information has given me some good leads for further research especially now that some dates have been confirmed. We also were given the option of receiving the British war medal 39-45. It was not issues before because he chose the Polish Army medal which at the time meant that he had to decline the British one since they were seen as the same.

Hope this has not spoilt your Xmas present by telling you what is in the package!!!!! Good Luck
