Book on Siberia/Wanda

Hi, my aunt in Poland was telling about how her father (my grandfather) was sent to Siberia and because there were a rich noble family and had connections they forged a document and he was released at ?an old age after spending 5 years in Siberia ?was put on a train back home to Kobryn and someone recognized him, he was so skinny with fleas under his arm pits, just awful he arrived on December 22nd and 2 days later died on December 24th, on his birthday! coincidentally December 24th is my birthday also, my aunt could not believe the coincidence my mother had to confirm it.I can ask her to write me everything she remembered her father Tomasz Adam Dabrowski told her, he also sent letters from Siberia, I will scan and email it to you for the book.
Good luck
Nadia.

Re: Forgotten? Not even acknowledged

The biggest problem is that people in the West didn't know about the Soviet
invasion in '39
and what went on in those areas after that date. Nobody cared to ask as the
Germans were allied with the Soviets
until the invasion of the Soviet Union when we all became allies against
Hitler. Supposedly then there were
other more important things to sort out, only later if my history serves me
right when the big three met up
Stalin wanted it all, Roosevelt didn't give a damn about eastern Poland and
Churchill although he tried valiantly
was outnumbered and had no choice in this matter. (His memoirs ought to be
read on this subject)

When I used to travel as a child to see my g/parents those things were
taboo in Poland, none of the kids my
age even knew about it. The history books were "rewritten" by the "UB"
Service, or as my g/father called them
"Poprawiacze Histori". The mere mention of these things was enough to get
you sent to a "colder" climate
It seemed strange to me that all of this was/had been covered up, only
later as I grew older did I begin to understand the
magnitude of it all and why my g/parents clung to the old traditions and
values which my mum passed on to me
We even had the old Polish Eagle hanging on the wall, the one with the
crown on it's head and my g/father refused to remove it

Something else to think on, my mum was born in Biala, Podole, Poland. which
is on her birth certificate, but her passport said different

Old Polish - Biala, Ukraine, ZSSR

How can this be changed at will, it should stay as it was since where she
was born wasn't Ukraine at that time, no matter
how much we ask the Polish Consulate for explanations, the same thing
always comes back "Silence"

Did anyone watch the 3-hour special on the Discovery Channel the
other night called The Colour of War? It was a very well put together
WW2 documentary that used a lot of live (and colour) footage coupled
with first-hand accounts from diary entries and letters. Distressing
indeed - not only because of the horrors and magnitude of the war
depicted but, for this Kresy-Siberia member, because it focused
entirely on the Nazis and Japanese as being the bad guys (which of
course they were), and portrayed Stalin as an ally. Their only
mention of the Polish occupation was in reference to the Germans and
the atrocities carried out on the Polish Jews. Nothing was mentioned
about the Russian occupation (except only to say that Germany had
reneiged on its deal with Russia in carving up Poland - thus
inferring Russia had a right to be there in the first place), or the
deportations and deaths of Polish citizens.
How did our families' plights get to be such a hidden piece of
history?

Dear all I have received several requests for Wanda's contact details. As
you may know, the privacy filters on the mailing list remove the e-mail
addresses from your posts unless you list them yourselves (as Paul always
does).

Because Wanda is trying to get in contact with as many survivors and
families of survivors from the deportations, here is her e-mail again with
full contact details. Please pass it on to any other survivors/families
you
may know of (and invite them to join our group!).

I have been involved in organizing action for the compensation from
Russia
for forcible deportation and slave labour of Polish people in many
Russian
prisons and labour camps. The efforts for compensation from the German
government have been successful. We believe we should do the same. We
are
accepting applications from anyone that was deported to Siberia and
other
parts of Soviet Russia from 1939 to 1957. We have registered a non
profit
corporation under the name of "Former Polish Political Prisoners in USSR
(Canada) Inc. with the right to carry out our business in the other
parts of
the world.

We are in the process of collecting applications from former prisoners
or
their descendants. The main objective right now is to collect as many
applications as we can. The application should contain the name of the
person
who was deported to USSR, the place of imprisonment in Russia ,
present
address for contact ,signature and the date signed. This information
will
be recorded and presented to the polish government, and if need be we
will
engage legal experts to present the case to the International Court in
Hague.
Right now we are gathering intelligence as to what compensation Poland
received from Russia in the past. We have been informed that Russia
paid
Poland $20 million US in the past and another $52 million in l990.'s If
this
information if true than all Polish people who have been enslaved should
have
been compensated, not only those who returned to Poland after the war.

I have initiated the organization of this claim , and now we have
elected Mr
Richard Wiktor Lacish to be the president and proceed with the legal
action.
The organization of Sybiracy in Florida are in support and will be
joining
our efforts. We will be appealing in near future to all former
prisoners in
USSR to join and to send their application to Former Polish Political
Prisoners in USSR (CANADA) INC, Wanda Truksa, 451 The West Mall, Ste
605,
Etobicoke, Ontario M9C lGl. tel: 416 621 5221 and my e-mail address is
Rwtruksa@...

I also request everyone's help. What we need is the listing of polish
newspapers published in every country to advertise our action and any
achives
that hold detailed records of the deportations. I think The Group could
be of
great help in publicising this action, and collecting the applications.

Well that is all for now. I hope I aroused everyones interest and it
looks
to me that the Group is well qualified to help in this action. I will
let
you know when I will receive the video. I would like to know what
return is
expected from the showing

The president of the organization lives in Montreal, where there is a
fair
group of Polish people and most of them are survivors of the Russian
labour
camps and prisons. I trust my message is not too long. Any more
information I
will pass along in the future

Czesc,
Wanda.

Hi Nadia
I find your story very interesting. I collect such stories for the book
we
are planning. Your story is exceptional. As i know the families were
trying to find each other regardles of circumstances, after the war and
even
now, through Red Cross and other agencies involved If you have more
details
I would love to hear all the details..
Sybiracy in Poland are well organized. In fact the group split i in the
last few years. Head Office in Warsaw and another group in Wroclaw. I
am
sure they are well aware of the possibilities awailable to them as far as
the
compensation is concerned. They do receive supplements to their pensions
and
other forms of assistance. Your relatives are probably are members of
one
or the other groups. What we are trying to do is to fight for
compensation
for all the people who did not return to Poland after the war.

Best regards
Wanda

HI Jan and Nadia,
Thank you for your messages. I picked up the phone t'other day to
call Mrs Goddard at the MOD re. my grandaddy Tadeusz Pundyk and while
I was waiting to be connected and thinking about how I could explain
myself effectively enough, I noticed that there is actually
no 'official requirement' for my father's death certificate on the
form they had sent me to prove that I am the next of kin, even though
this is what they said they required in their covering letter. All
that is required 'officially' is a copy of my grandfather's death
certificate (which I have). So...I scrapped the idea of the phone
call and instead decided to hedge my bets on the formalities of the
form. Fingers crossed!

Hi
It is a shame of our generation than did not learn to stand up for
themselves. That is why in my opinion we should encourage publishing our
family histories. It is never too late.

Reply to Nadia:

We are in the process of collecting memoires of survivors of the work
camps and prisons in Soviet Russia. The purpose? Their are the stories
that were never told. If the facts were known maybe Allies would not have
sold the Eastern Europe into russian slavery at Yalta.
Editor of polish weekly in Toronto The Alliancer , Stanislaw Stolarczyk ,
will translate and edit this book in english lanquage. Canadian publlic does
not know much of european history even less of polish.. Many people have
passed on and their story will never be known. The book will contain only
the details of survival in the camps. If You wish to contribute we will be
happy to include Your story.

We seem to have a abundance of authors on this list
I'm creating my mother's memories from her childhood into a book

who was deported to USSR, the place of imprisonment in Russia , present
address for contact ,signature and the date signed. This information will
be recorded and presented to the polish government, and if need be we will
engage legal experts to present the case to the International Court in Hague.
Right now we are gathering intelligence as to what compensation Poland
received from Russia in the past. We have been informed that Russia paid
Poland $20 million US in the past and another $52 million in l990.'s If this
information if true than all Polish people who have been enslaved should have
been compensated, not only those who returned to Poland after the war.

I have initiated the organization of this claim , and now we have elected Mr
Richard Wiktor Lacish to be the president and proceed with the legal action.
The organization of Sybiracy in Florida are in support and will be joining
our efforts. We will be appealing in near future to all former prisoners in
USSR to join and to send their application to Former Polish Political
Prisoners in USSR (CANADA) INC, Wanda Truksa, 451 The West Mall, Ste 605,
Etobicoke, Ontario M9C lGl. tel: 416 621 5221 and my e-mail address is
Rwtruksa@...

I also request everyone's help. What we need is the listing of polish
newspapers published in every country to advertise our action and any achives
that hold detailed records of the deportations. I think The Group could be of
great help in publicising this action, and collecting the applications.

Well that is all for now. I hope I aroused everyones interest and it looks
to me that the Group is well qualified to help in this action. I will let
you know when I will receive the video. I would like to know what return is
expected from the showing

The president of the organization lives in Montreal, where there is a fair
group of Polish people and most of them are survivors of the Russian labour
camps and prisons. I trust my message is not too long. Any more information I
will pass along in the future

Czesc,
Wanda.

Social Security Administration

I was wondering if anyone could help me with an electronic address
for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland. The
reason I ask is that i'm in Australia and I found an entry of a Wasyl
Sycz who died in the USA in May 1979. This name is the same as that
of my Grandfathers and I'd thought it would be worth a try to see if
he was in fact my GF.

Thanks
Denis
