Dear Chris
Welcome and Thank you for sharing your information and experiences. Maybe at last the recognition and aknowledgment of the sacrifices and hardships our ancestors endured in the belief that they were doing so for a greater purpose will be afforded them and that this present and future will be a positive testimony of the successes they and their progeny have achieved. We live in an age where everything has to now but this is proof, if it were needed, to the saying everything comes to those who wait(and are proactive whether a lot or little) Bye 4 now Hela. Introducing myself....
natalia maliszewski
Hi everyone! I'm Natalie and i just turned 18. I found this forum
when I was researching information about the labor camps in Kazakhstan and Siberia. My parents immigrated to America from Poland when I was 8 years old, so my roots are of Poland. My grandmother, her 3 sisters and mother were all deporteees from Eastern Poland, and they were forced to work in the labor camps in Kazakhstan. I know all of their stories and feel responsible to pass on their experiences and pain inflicted by the USSR during WWII. |

US Senate Bill S2844 concerning Poland

Dear Stefan,
?
I got this message about Senate Bill S2844 concerning visas for Polish citizens from another Yahoo Group. ?I didn't know if you and the group were aware of this measure.? Sincerely, Joyce Kelly
?
Received the below email today and thought you all should be aware of it. Mary-Ann Rockledge, FL ----- Original Message ----- From: "Polish American Congress" To: Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 5:12 PM Subject: Support Senate Bill S2844 - URGENT! This is an urgent alert to members of the Polish American Congress and all members of Polonia.? Your support is needed regarding this important issue. Kindly review this e-mail, then e-mail it to family members and friends, and ask them to take action as soon as possible. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? October 21, 2004 Dear Members of Polonia: ???? We would like to bring to your attention an issue of great concern to all of? Polonia.? We are alarmed to have learned from an update on U.S. Senate Bill 2844, Calendar No. 715, that an unidentified Democratic Senator has issued a hold which means an objection to prevent the bill from being passed by a voice vote.? Senate Bill 2844, introduced by Senator Rick Santorum and Senator Barbara Mikulski, would designate Poland as a visa waiver country.? Upon passage, Polish citizens visiting the U.S.A. within a 90-day period would not have to apply for a visa and, thus, Polish citizens would be treated with the respect they deserve as age-old American allies. ??? The update confirmed that all Republican Senators cleared the bill with no objection.? However, one Democratic Senator, unknown to the bills sponsors, placed an objection on the bill, blocking passage by the Senate of this vital-for the Polish people-legislation. ??? The objection is of grave concern to Polonia.? More than any other country, Poland deserves consideration for visa waiver legislation for its tireless and heroic efforts to end Communist oppression, building a viable democracy in Central Europe, and for its courageous support of Americas war against world terrorism and the conflict in Iraq. ??? Polish Americans want to know which Senate Democrat stopped the legislative process of granting visa waivers to Poles by placing an objection on Bill 2844.? You are urged to contact your Senators to let them know that Polish Americans want this bill placed back on the Senate calendar for immediate consideration. ??? Dear friends at Kresy-Siberia
Thanks for your recent comments and encouragement. I look forward to contacting some of you individually to get copies of the memoirs you have published. I want to learn as much as possible. (I don't even know in which camp my family was kept.) One of the few things I know about the circumstances of the deportation of my grandparents and my mother, is that the soviets allowed my grandfather to build a cabin in their camp with another man. I don't know if this was common or unusual. My mother used to tell me that this was unusual and that my grandfather had some kind of status in the camp. Does anyone have any insight into this or some context to help me understand why my grandfather might have had this privilege? (Last night I found two photographs of this cabin, one of the interior and the other of my grandfather building it. I will scan them soon to share, as I've heard that such photos are uncommon and may be of interest.) Best Chris _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi and welcome to the group. Interested to read that your mother was
a Hartman as my mother was one also. My grandfather Hartman came from Warsaw and so was 'fortunate' enough to be deported to Germany as opposed to Siberia. Chances are that there is no link between us, but the amount of times someone has found a link through this forum that I feel it would be remiss of me not to comment. All the best, Jurek. --- In Kresy-Siberia@..., Chris Conway <cristobalconway@y...> wrote:

As a family, we went the self-publishing route with my father-in-law's memoir. I strongly recommend it.
