Thanks so much for this. I believe that in our group are some veterans or families of the USS Hermitage mercy voyage.. Do you think that your friend from the USS Hermitage could put us in touch with Mr Kielbasa, or send us a scan of the program and other photos/info he may have (assuming he has it back?) --I read THE LONG WALK in 1947 or 1948 when it was first published,
as a serial, in an English weekly 'Bulldog', or some similar name. I enjoyed it very much, but I found it hard to believe that the author met the Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas, as described in the chapter XXII of the book. Welcome to our group Alex. Losice.

开云体育?? Shalom Members,
???????? Do any of
the members have photos, postcards, or other memorabilia citing the town of
Losice, Poland ? May or may not emphasize Jewish influence within the town . I
would love copies sent to me in order to place them?on the website: .
??????? My wife and I
have translated Losice's Yizkor Book ( book of remembrances written by survivors
after the war ) from Yiddish and Hebrew into English.
?????? Our major project is
the reclamation of Jewish gravestones stolen by the Nazis from cemeteries in
Losice, Mordy, and Sarnaki. Once in Losice they were then used as paving stones
for a courtyard, a stone fence, and added protection in and around a bunker
which still exists on the property. To date 1500 gravestones have been
unearthed.
??????Thank
you.
????? Regards, Viktor Lewin ( viklewin@... ).??

Please welcome Alex Hilldevries to the group. HowI have, three times over the years since I first saw it in the Calgary Public Library in the 80's. There are two discussion groups about the book. One in yahoo groups, and one in allreaders. One the more interesting posts was from a guy in India who said his grandfather was one of the India army doctors who treated Rawicz and his companions after their entry into India. Unfortunately I couldn't find his email address, and subsequent posts requesting it were unanswered. There is also an Indian lady living in India with an interest in Polish matters who is trying to track down the Indian connections to The Long Walk, but so far she hasn't come up with much. I do have her email address, and is someone wants to correspond with her, I can supply it. If you try the MOD (see details at http://www.aforgottenodyssey.com/mainref.html#r4 ) you should get a proper reception these days - they will tell you if the records exist, and get you to fill out a next-of-kin report. Apparently Eve is having trouble with her computer, but the Memorial Wall e-mail should be restored shortly. Best of luck Stefan Wisniowski
