Pi3 to Pi4
5
Greetings- I know the Build-a-Pi was orphaned for 73 Linux, but I have put a great dela of personalization into my current BaP setup on a Pi3. I recently acquired a Pi4, which I know should give me the added benefit of being able to load VARA. So, I simply moved my SD card from my Pi3 to my Pi4, but when I run the BaP updater to add VARA, it doesn't seem to recognize that I am now on a Pi4, and it won't let me add VARA. Is this expected behavior? Do I need to reload BaP (or switch to 73 Linux) and then go through the process of rebuilding my BPQ node and configuring direwolf, etc? Thanks for the help... Adam, KM7N

WSJT-X on Raspberry pi 5
I have been following this group some time. I have very little experience with RPi Linux so I was using 73 Linux. I have been trying to get WSJT-x functioning on my 8gb Raspberry Pi for about a year now. I was excited to see the recent 73Linux actually loading the program. But it was a beta version that went away on 1/15/25. Can anyone direct me to a site that can help? Dave Dave Hoxworth 1700 Stonehedge Findlay, OH 45840-7728 Cell 419-306-5013

Anyone running 73Linux on Ubuntu 24.04?
2
Ubuntu is suggesting that I upgrade to 24.04...... I'm happy where I'm at on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS running on a 10 yr old ex-windoze machine, so I don't want to upgrade unless it's a sure thing. Using it for Pat Winlink/Vara HF only. Only thing is that I don't get the rig frequency to report into the Conky window, but that is not really a concern, the rig control works as expected otherwise. On a somewhat related note, just FYI I'll throw this out there... On a Pi4/32 bit, the Pat-Mailbox/Vara HF is timing out in the action>connect to remote node>select target..... very hard to get to the point where I can select a node and connect. But, on the good side, running Direwolf/Xastir is very responsive and useful. I noted during the install on the Pi4/32 bit, that I had to load Vara HF from the Pi-Apps menu, and that Vara FM was not available to load. Interesting. I'm able to run both VARAs on the Ubuntu ex-windoze machine. Oh well. I wonder if trying Pat-Mailbox/Vara HF on a Pi 5 (32bit?) would work better? I recall reading that the CPU benchmark for the Pi5 is not substantially greater than the Pi 4 that's why I'm asking. 73 Jim W0JPO

Running Linux 73 and Conky covers my taskbar. How do I lower Conky? Using the Conky prefs in Preferences only changes the size, but not the location.

#aprs #bap Correct where to get APRS passcode
#bap
#aprs
I have noticed that the $HOME/bin/webchat/config/aprsd.conf file has a comment on where to get the 4-digit APRS passcode (hash from the license callsign -minus the -ssid) # APRS Password Get the passcode for your callsign here: # https://apps.magicbug.co.uk/passcode (string value) #password = That URL has been disabled. Please change it to: https://www.iz3mez.it/aprs-passcode/ and please revise any related template .conf files and instructions. I am trying to write instructions for our group on how to pass APRS text messages to AREDN Please be more explicit in the readme for https://github.com/km4ack/webchat and related scripts (BAP) that before running the $HOME/webchat/install script, that direwolf flrig and hamlib need to be installed and the related .conf files need to be edited for the install script to run correctly.

New install issues Rpi 4
8
I decided to update my old Buster install of RPi OS and install 73Linux anew. I did overinstall 73Linux over BAP and this seems to work just fine … and Conky shows correctly. So flashed a new SD card with 32-bit Bookworm and then a full install of 73Linux. I see Wayland is installed by default. And I immediately see the black box of Conky ! So I spent some quality time reading comments … and more comments … for hours. I managed to use Wayland and add a line or so in conkyrc to get now a transparent nothing box. I can tell something’s there as when I right click in it I get the expected nothing … but nothing shows. At wits end now. Is there a proper order to installing all this or magic incantation to get this in particular to work ? I’m at a point where I can just start over and try again. 73, Jamie WB4YDL

Winter Field Day Challenge - Question/issue
2
I attempted to do the Winter Field Day Challenge but only had 50% success. I posted my position via 2 meter packet repeater. I received an acknowledgement of the position report via my own email address but nothing on winlink. I checked back a few hours later and sent an Inquiry request for WL2K_NEARBY. I never received an acknowledgement nor any did I get any report back. I tried a few times for the next couple of hours and same result. I even by-passed the radio and used telnet, with the same result. I did notice that I can send email from winlink but it appears that I cannot receive anything. I have my own email address listed as allowed in the Winlink system (logged into my winlink account and verified this) but if I sent an email to winlink it never shows up. Are there other settings I need to check? Thank you. Larrie AF7NU

One last try before I literally shoot my pi 3
18
So for years I have owned this useless little box. I have watched the videos and have tried multiple times to get this to work with a radio. Any radio. Do anything other then waste my rime and develop and anger issue that will make a therapist rich. at this time I simply want to connect my fr8900 to the po and run some kind of irlp program to put activity on my repeater. Tried ham voip. Installed it and then nothing happens. No screen to go anywhere to go online no connections. Dead. tried all star thing and my repeater can’t do that due to a very specific controller I am using. so what else can this useless little box do other than waste time. I had the original pi os a long time and then support went away for it. So what can I do with this to allow me to connect to a radioto use the pi3?

Vara HF pat-winlink connect keeps getting rejected immediately
4
Hi. I searched the archive and did not find an answer. Probably in there somewhere. I need help. Have worked through all the setups and have ability to Tx on vara hf with my FT897 using FLRIG. Have been using FLRIG for years with fldigi and JS8Call. I have an email in the outbox, so I know I have traffic to send. I'm selecting "VARA HF" in the drop down modem box in the "connect to remote node" window. I've used winlink on Windows PCs so I have some idea of what to expect. If the far end station responds to my connect request with a short burst, my station will respond with a longer burst (longer than a retry of the initial connect request), but when my station finishes with the long burst I can hear the far end finishing a data burst followed by a CW ID. My station will keep retrying to establish contact since it did not hear whatever data burst the far end was sending prior to it's CW ID, and then my end will time out and do it's own CW burst. Again, I have a message in the outbox, so I should be asking the far end to accept it. If I'm even getting that far with the connect dialog. I am registered with winlink and vara, that's not the problem. I haven't done any unique setup config changes other than to get FLRIG and RIGCTL working. I have ALC set correctly. I'm using 50W with the FT897. My computer is an X86 running Ubuntu 20.04...it's been updated via the terminal. CONKY shows PAT/FLRIG/RIGCTL all active. Any help would be appreciated. I apologise if this is a repeat request but I could not find any help in the archives that helped my fix this. 73 Jim W0JPO

QSY failure with PAT Menu
11
This issue was covered in an earlier message, but I was not able to ascertain the solution from the responses. I have PAT running on a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB, with programs installed under 73-Linux. I start Flrig, which connects to my FTDX10 without issue. Start PAT and start ARDOP modem. Modem is working. The web browser (Firefox or Chromium) opens the 127.0.0.1:5000 page to Pat Mail box. The error I get is: Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused I have tried this with the PAT Menu Settings "Rig Control" set to both No and Yes. I also tried using PAT to use rig control directly, stetting the rig control command to /usr/local/bin/rigctl -m 1042 but this did not help either. Still get the connection refused error. Below is the PAT Menu settings for using Flrig. What am I missing? Larrie AF7NU

HDMi output resolution not compatible with 32” Vizio
4
My plan was to hang a 32” Vizio TV in my shack and run HamClock and other programs. The Raspberry Pi output to a 42” worked just fine, but when I set it up with the Vizio 32” the image I guess was too big and ended up being crooked on the screen and the top menu was nearly completely obscured. I be,I’ve there should be a solution to this but as a Linux newbie I don’t know how to fix it. Rick, W2JAZ

73Linux Build & Fetch Solar
7
I recently pulled a long forgotten Build-A-Pi (3B+) out for some updates and noticed 73Linux is the new format. Decided to just do a new build. Install & updates went off without a hitch. As I was wrapping up I remembered there was a way to add solar data to the Conky pane. Followed the video on Youtube from 12/22/2020 as I didn't see an updated version. Ended up with two issues... First, when I manually run fetchsolar in the terminal to initially populate the fields I see the values plus some empty boxes: Second, even though I added the new/related crontab entry, these values don't appear when the Pi boots up. Did I miss a step or two? Thanks. - N1DAE

Pat connection fails. Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig
17
Greetings, I have been attempting to get winlink and vara hf to run on my pi 4 with the lastest x64 RPI os. Rig control works fine (Flrig), I can tune in Vara, I can use WSJTX just fine. When I try to connect to a winlink HF vara everything goes fine, except at the end it just says connecting and no rig control happens, then it does nothing. So I gave up on winlink in wine and am now tying Pat with KM4ACK's Pat menus. Once again everything is working fine, my sound card is set, Flrig is working, and I have CAT control enabled in the config. Once the html launches the browser, I receive the error below. I'm using a digirig with a Xiegu G90. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Bobby W6IWN Subject From Date Message ID 2025/01/12 07:56:37 Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused. 2025/01/12 07:56:37 Starting HTTP service (http://127.0.0.1:8080)...
