Re: 857 with Direwolf for 2M Packet
Dave, Okay, thanks. ?I brought it down to 50. ?Still no joy - but I'm receiving on my HT and the PiGate. I may just have to drive over the local repeater and walk my way back to the QTH to see if

Re: 857 with Direwolf for 2M Packet
All looks fine to me other than menu 37 DIG GAIN, unless your sound card has a very low output or you have volume OUT set very low in software you shouldn¡¯t need to use 100. This may be your issue,

Re: Find Gateways
The Find Gateway feature in Pat Menu needs work concerning Packet Searches. Currently it ignores the "Grid to Search" & "Band to Search" boxes. Instead, it looks for closest gateways to your station

Find Gateways
The option to download gateways near my location doesn't work for 2M&70CM (packet or ardop) when i choose my grid JO. It only shows US grids. When I do the same for 20 or 40 meter it does work fine.

Re: 857 with Direwolf for 2M Packet
Hi Grant, is that correct, are you using the Mic input? If so it¡¯s going to be using the Mic VOX menu 88 if memory serves me. This is not the best way to operate any data mode as the Mic input

I fired up my unregistered copy of DaveCAD this weekend and this is the circuit that I'm going to try for direct cat control with the pi. I don't remember if I needed the extra diode on the rx line

Thanks Dave. When I try in FM mode, Vox or no Vox, the radio keys but no tones are transmitted. ?And Vox is not selectable in Packet mode. Weird thing I just saw. ?I'm running a PiGate for APRS

Re: 857 with Direwolf for 2M Packet
Sorry could have been clearer, the good thing about the Digital VOX on the FT857 is unusually it works in FM Mode, thus is what you use. 73 de Dave G7HJX

I know a lot of people here run field radios using battery packs, so I thought the group might find this helpful, especially if running lipo batteries. If you need a low voltage shutoff for your
Re: 857 with Direwolf for 2M Packet
I'm decoding some packets on 144.390; weird though, when I tried to transmit a message with PiAPRS I got "Can't use rig_set_ptt for channel 0 PTT because rig_open failed."

Re: /dev/ttyUSB
Glad you fixed your PTT issue! There was an easier way with the FT857, use Digital VOX menu 40 unlike FM and SSB there is no hang time. Dave G7HJX
