Running RPi 3b
Raspian Buster version 10 latest updates Is Raspian subject to memory leaks. Notice that after running a while (close to 2 hours) and opening/closing a number of different applications installed with Build a Pi that both main memory and Swap memory begin to fill up and the Pi starts slowing down. A reboot solves the issue - Conky is great for keeping an eye on this. Is this a Raspian issue or is it a function of bad design for the applications? Thanks, George AK4NG |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLets no hijack this thread with Conky.? Open a new thread and include specifics on what you see, and what you have tried to do to fix it and I am sure we can help.? My Conky works well on an rpi4 with 8gb. Thanks, Terry K4HNT ---- On Tue, 07 Sep 2021 16:27:41 -0400 Trevor Matney <matney.trevor@...> wrote ----

Re: Low Noise Compact Portable Power for RPi
Hi David,
I'm a SDR rookie and have a RTL-SDR and a receiving loop antenna to use with it.? If you have some advice for what software to use it will be greatly appreciated.? Also I'm wondering do I add the SDR applications to my BAP or do I need a separate Pi? 73 Jeff KO4NCC |
flrig setup with Kenwood TS-2000
I'm having no luck getting my TS-2000 working with flrig. My Linux ignorance plays a role in this, I'm sure.
I installed flrig on my Pi 4. I'm using a Signalink USB interface between Pi and the rig. When I try to set the flrig parameters I'm confused by the field Configure/Xcvr/Update. There I see choices of 'None', a bunch of '/dev/ttyxx' (where the xx ranges from blank to 63), and a couple choices of '/dev/ttyAMA0'. I cycled through this list, trying each one then clicking on Init, unsuccessfully. How do I know what should be entered in that Update field?? The Pi/Signalink/TS-2000 work fine with WSJT-X so pretty certain it's not a hardware problem. Thanks for any help. Tom - K0TW |
Re: Headless Pi - Error?
Trevor Matney
Did you install VNC for RPi on the device? Installing VNC and changing the screen size in raspi-config to 1024 x768 and adding a on startup command fixed my issue with VNC.? I had same conflict.? There is an article about it....do a Google search. Trevor KJ7MLK On Tue, Sep 7, 2021, 7:04 AM Robert Switzer <robert_switzer@...> wrote:

Re: Headless Pi - Error?
I have not had that happen to me however; when I set up my BAP's (on pi3b+ and pi4B) I used putty to ssh on to the pi's used raspi-config to turn or VNC then rebooted no errors.
The pi's don't react well to pulling the HDMI while powered. Try rebooting if you plan to pull HDMI this allows the pi to "redirect" video. Or invest in an inexpensive HDMI switch such as : quick tip : if you flash? new sd card when it's done eject the card from pc or mac then reinsert go to the drive and create a blank text file labeled 'ssh.txt" this and you wpa_supplicant.conf.<-- theses 2 files make life easier Hope this Helps BIll N3VMT |

On an Android smartphone, you can share the phone GPS with an application like Share GPS. It works well. I can't tell how to connect a Pi to it yet. I need to learn that part. Best regards, Fred N7FMH -----Original Message-----

Re: Headless Pi - Error?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have run into
the problem too.?? I have found the issue is setting the
screen resolution.?
The SSH and VNC stuff listed below can be skipped for now if you choose to connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to your pi. Since I always run and access my pi from my Mac when in the shack and with a tablet in the field, these steps are critical to my setup. If you plan to run your pi headless, I recommend completing the SSH & VNC steps now. NOTE: You will need to plug your pi into your router via a cat5 cable and know the pi's IP address. Finding your pi's IP address on your network is beyond the scope of this document. Google is your friend :)
After the setup wizard is complete, open a terminal window and verify everything is up to date with

Re: Anybody running gpsd to read from another Pi?
Ron,
Great find on networking gpsd, I¡¯ve never been able to get that to work until now. I¡¯ve successfully used cgps as well as xastir on a remote device and it seems to work great. I don¡¯t have another available device to try testing gpsd but I¡¯m going to go out on a limb and guess that the issue is on the remote end and not the device providing GPS data on port 2947. Headless Pi - Error?
I thought I had followed directions to make my Pi 4 headless (in fact, have a headless Pi 3)... VNC enabled and remote access, however one issue: When I disconnect the monitor (mini HDMI jack) and then try to access via VNC, I get an error saying it Cannot show the desktop. It's not happening right now when I unplug the monitor, but seems to happen at some stage after a reboot. I have Xastir installed, I also have raspberry-noaa-v2 installed. |
Re: DUDEstar for DMR on a pi4B
Thank you Jason.?
Droidstar now working here, and it helped me become familiar with the DMR systems and some settings.? I can now connect with other hams, on their DMR radios, if I am in an environment where RF devices are restricted (other than cellphones).? Expanding service capabilities.? Yesterday, I spoke with someone in the DMR Amsat talkgroup, hundreds of miles away, from my cell phone, in the car, and he on his radio, while I was waiting for a pizza for pickup, discussing some TLE orbital questions.? Ah, the excitement of the first few successful contacts with a new mode, and it utilizes , amateur radio, and several infrastructure technologies, for flexible service in a variety of circumstances, similar to echolink and winlink, amateur radio growing in communication science and art ready for service.? Now that I've gotten my feet wet, I'll look further into a build on a Pi.? With the Pi already having some versions of android available for it, that too might be a path to DMR on a Pi.? It in no way persuades me to sell my HF gear, and wire antennas, and soldering iron and 6L6 tubes.? Amateur radio offers so much variety? of knowledge to learn, and master, and creatively innovate, and through which to serve... and have some rewarding fun doing so. Anyone using an android image/build, and android ham apps on a Pi successfully, in case the DUDEstar stubbornly refuses to build on arm?? I'm hoping, if the DUDEstar will build, that it is as simple as possible so it might be easily incorporated into Jason's BAP scripts, if he decides to do so.? But now I'm way ahead of myself. Thoughts from anyone? ks K4GMV |

Re: Build-A-Pi Update menu
Let's address the missing update menu item first. Haven't seen this happen before but should be an easy fix. Open a terminal window and run:
nano /usr/local/share/applications/build-a-pi.desktop Once the file opens, paste in the following lines: [Desktop Entry] Name=Update-Tool GenericName=Update-Tool Comment=Build-a-Pi App Manager Exec=/home/pi/pi-build/update Icon=/home/pi/pi-build/logo.png Terminal=true Type=Application Categories=bap press ctrl+s to save and ctrl+x to exit. The menu item should now be available. Use the BAP update tool and reinstall Conky. That should fix the blurry Conky issue. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: Garmin GPS Bluetooth
#bap
#bluetooth
#gps
Thanks Jason. I'll give it a go and post my results once I get it to work.Let me start by saying that this is purely an educated guess on my part but should point you in the right direction. First, attempt to pair the pi with the GPS using the GUI Bluetooth icon up by the clock on the pi desktop. More than likely this will fail and tell you no usable services are found. Now open a terminal window and run: hcitool scan after a couple of seconds, you should see the GPS and more importantly the GPS MAC address. Armed with the MAC address, next run sudo rfcomm connect /dev/rfcomm0 (MAC ADDR HERE) if it connects, leave this window open and open the GPS update tool. Choose the bluetooth GPS option and use rfcomm port # 0. Now open a new terminal window and run cgps and see if you have GPS data. -- 73, de KM4ACK
