¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGM Jason: It was from your old video on activating the RTC a few years ago . It was at your github page ¡/pi-scripts down to rtc. 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Dec 16, 2024, at 6:41?AM, km4ack via groups.io <jason.oleham@...> wrote:

Thanks Dominic ! I¡¯ll try that. In reading more, looks like I need to add an ¡°overlay¡± for the device.

Re: New install BT Mobilinkd TNC3
I usually do that with `sudo`, like my usual routine for that is:

#v+ $ hcitool scan $ sudo rfcomm bind 0 {MAC_ADDRESS} ... $ sudo rfcomm release 0 #v- Using `rfcomm connect...` is practically the same, but you may need to leave the terminal window open and quit with `CTRL+C` when you're done with the connection. hope that helps, -dominic, oe7drt James C. New install BT Mobilinkd TNC3
OK, next issue ¡
First off, I reviewed Jason¡¯s YT video on the TNC3 and the updated PAT Menu - about 2 years old - and the older (pre-PAT Menu) video using a TNC2 - about 5 years old. Going to PAT Menu -> start/stop modem -> Start Mobilinkd Modem BT. Get connection successful. Clicking Start Mobilinkd Modem BT again (as required) does NOT give a connect and HTTP. It restarts the first dialog - endless loop.. I tried to do the older method with copying the MAC address with hcitool scan and then running rfcomm connect an I got a permission denied for connect. I tried going wired to the TNC3 and it worked flawlessly. Any help appreciated. Going to stop here for the day - not tackling VARA until later ! 73, Jamie WB4YDL |

Oh well it looks like I¡¯ll be doing the same and then retrying the new install.? Might mess with it later.? Mark Hogan N5OBC On Sun, Dec 15, 2024 at 10:55?AM James C. Hall, MD WB4YDL via <heartdoc=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: New install issues Rpi 4
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIt looks like this issue is quite well known. Jason sent a ticket a year ago and looking at the developer¡¯s GitHub site, he may have just given up on it. So, I don¡¯t know if there¡¯s an alternative out there, but for now, it looks like I¡¯ll be uninstalling Conky. Going forward, if I¡¯m going with Bookworm/Wayland, I need to see if everything else I installed is going to work. :) 73, Jamie WB4YDL On Dec 15, 2024, at 10:09?AM, James C. Re: New install issues Rpi 4
I also installed Bookworm on a Pi 4 recently (a fresh install, not just updating), then installed 73Linux. Mine was for 64-bit Arm though, not 32-bit. Things generally went very well, but I did have 2 problems. One was Vara, which I asked about in this forum, got some suggestions, and now I have the modem (VaraHF) working but not VarAC. The other was conky¡¯s solid black background. I also spent alot of time trying to make the background transparent, without success. So I just adopted a nice James Webb telescope wallpaper with black space image and the conky background blends right in. I live with that.?
During my investigation I found there is alot of complexity in Linux GUI processing, with dozens of window management choices, things called ¡°compositors¡±, and other software layers. This means the potential combinations are very high, making a search for answers complicated¡ª does someone giving advice really have the same combination as you do??
Someday when I get more timeI may dive in and learn much more about Linux GUI processing than I want to.?
Not a very helpful post for you, other than to make you aware the solution is much more complicated than simply adding various lines into conky¡¯s config file.?

New install issues Rpi 4
I decided to update my old Buster install of RPi OS and install 73Linux anew. I did overinstall 73Linux over BAP and this seems to work just fine ¡ and Conky shows correctly.
?
So flashed a new SD card with 32-bit Bookworm and then a full install of 73Linux. I see Wayland is installed by default. And I immediately see the black box of Conky ! So I spent some quality time reading comments ¡ and more comments ¡ for hours.
?
I managed to use Wayland and add a line or so in conkyrc to get now a transparent nothing box. I can tell something¡¯s there as when I right click in it I get the expected nothing ¡ but nothing shows. At wits end now.
?
Is there a proper order to installing all this or magic incantation to get this in particular to work ? I¡¯m at a point where I can just start over and try again.

Re: Portable Digipeater GPS Issue
I have my Pi as a stratum server for NTP time and FT8 and using USB make sure your config is correct.?IE: "sudo nano /etc/default/gpsd " ?For my my GPS is /dev/ttyAMC0 You have to define your device in GPSD first.? This is what my file GPDS looks like.? # Devices gpsd should collect to at boot time. # They need to be read/writeable, either by user gpsd or the group dialout. START_DAEMON="true" USBAUTO="no" DEVICES="/dev/ttyACM0 -s 115200 /dev/pps0" GPSD_OPTIONS="-n" GPSD_SOCKET="/var/run/gpsd.sock" Start Daemon? command makes sure that GPSD starts when the Pi is rebooted.?? USB Auto is where the Pi recognizes the USB device automatically.? In my case I have it turned off I specify that the my GPS is on AMC0 in my case and -s is where I tell the pi what comport speed the device is, IE: 115200.?? GPSD -n = no wait for the client to poll GPS (starts spitting out GPS data immediately) GPSD Socket = the socket GPSD for the system.? Hope this helps 73's? Rob?
