Re: BAP not working #bap

There is an that was reported with the latest version of hamlib. The fix has been posted here

FLARQ is installed with as part of the FLDIGI install. This is by design of the FLDIGI developer.

FLRIG should be installed and a link in the main Pi menu but due to a code error, it is not in the flsuite sub menu. This will be resolved in a future release.

Hamlib 4.3 Compile error

Rich, KB3YBE, reported that hamlib 4.3 will not compile on the Pi. There is a missing dependency (libusb-1.0) The most current version of libusb on the pi is 1.0.22 but hamlib 4.3 needs 1.0.23 to install. I have confirmed this issue. If you are building a new system, you will need to install hamlib 4.2 manually. To do so, run the following commands in a terminal window:

cd $HOME/Downloads
wget https://github.com/Hamlib/Hamlib/releases/download/4.2/hamlib-4.2.tar.gz
tar -xzf hamlib-4.2.tar.gz
rm hamlib-4.2.tar.gz
cd hamlib-4.2
./configure
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

Re: Xastir SignaLink Direwolf

I apologize if I'm just not getting it and I've searched and searched and watched a few videos and get stuck at the same place.

I have BAP 3.0.8
SignaLink connected
GPS Connected
When I start direwolf here's my results:

**
Dire Wolf version 1.6
Includes optional support for:? hamlib cm108-ptt

Reading config file direwolf.conf
Audio device for both receive and transmit: plughw:2,0? (channel 0)
Channel 0: 1200 baud, AFSK 1200 & 2200 Hz, E+, 44100 sample rate / 3.
Note: PTT not configured for channel 0. (Ignore this if using VOX.)
Ready to accept AGW client application 0 on port 8000 ...
Ready to accept KISS TCP client application 0 on port 8001 ...
****

In all your videos you get the device name of the KISS TNC for entry in the Xastir Interface Control dialog box.
So I end up stuck here and can't proceed.

BAP not working #bap

Good day

insralled 2 x BAP on seperate sdcards

previous install was a few weeks ago with previos or firts release of this BAP

First one hamlib does not do its thing and even flrig does not want to see usb
i use an icom7100 which all work perfect in previous then release with everything

with the second sd card i only check a few items. One was only flrig and fldigi
aftef install it show flarq and fldigi

it seems new BAP does something or something eksewhere on fl site is doing something else

please advice as the older sd card is working but the later BAP is having issues

Re: Request for next BAP version: Disable or give option to disable GPS entry during install

Good day,
it seems that with BAP the first order of priority to install, for me, is the communications with peripherals. that is FLRigs comms to the Pi4 and the GPS and make sure that it is working as everything seems to orbit around these things. The dependencies may also differ from one installation to another. Big headache.
But it seems that everything is running a lot smoother with the BAP FLRig installation and HAMLIB but the GPS and GPSD daemon I do manually.
If this is working and showing as an shortcut the rest just easier to install.

Re: Anybody running gpsd to read from another Pi?

Ron
It seems, most of the time, that I do have a problem with my GPS and the Pi4 when transmitting, Maybe some RFI or something. It seems however that everyone is experiencing a different problem depending on the rig, installation etc.
I know that the NTP is not always working perfectly as I have an (setup an) NTP server on my network and that My pi should listen to it and automatically update the Date and Time, especially if the network grid is down, for digital comms it is. But the NTP software/deamon on the Pi4 is funny to get running, maybe Im to stupid or to non-english to understand it.
As long as mi Pi updates the date and time at least once a day or while rebooting Im happy, but when is not very evident for me, it seems however you have to look at what your date and time is to see if it is working or not. The NTP software listening to the port do not always show if it is in sync or not. Maybe becayse the updates is not when you query the Pi. I just do not know this, But the solution maybe to disconnect the Pi from the internet and thus only listen to your NTP server and see what the Date and Time is doing. Updating or not, It may be the only way to be perfectly be certain if the Pi is updating the D&T from the local server or not. Also remove your RTC to make sure that this comms is working. But disconnecting the Pi from the internet may prove to be more difficult than what it would seems.
Anyway, all my PC's and Pi is updating from my local network NTP server at although not evident from querying the source, it seems to work and updating. I think this may be the only way to ensure that it is working.

Re: Isolation of the field Compiter #PI4

The build went good but this is the process I took for installing BAP.
In the first instance I made sure that the FLRig and HAMlink is installed and working. This is not always true as the problem seems to be with the dependencies which may differ for each setup. I have paged trough the install log for the installation of FLRig as this is my main program for accessing the CAT controls of my FT-897 and it seems that in certain installations different dependencies is missing and does not install correctly. It is a pain in the butt but I then search the Internet for the file it is moaning about and install the dependency manually and then retry FLDigi again. This is my first and foremost package I do with BAP as I have restarted my Pi4 a lot of times and each time the required dependencies differ. If FLRig and Hamlib is working perfectly and the comms to the radio is working I continue with the installation of BAP.
With regards to Conky I'm not worried anymore of displaying the grid locator as it seems that the manual installation of GPSD is working and displaying everything correctly but it does not appear on Conky, maybe a bug somewhere but conky is very volatile with regards to its working but the update tool for WSJT-X and JS8call is working perfectly even though Conky does not display the grid square. Im thinking about using the Arduino externally with an OLED and serial GPS to display the grid square and the UTC time on the OLED for reference but is not there yet. Just thinking about that.
Anyway it seems to improve the performance of the Pi4 if you Isolate the 5VDC supply from the rest of the DC supply including the radio, is there seems to be and Improvement on the stability of the Pi4 when transmitting digital on higher power setting (>20W)
I used a DC-DC converter from the supply line for the 5VDC supply of the Pi4 and the build in USB hub and Isolated the Pi4's USB3 from the rest of the radio stuff as this seems to be an big problem on the Pi4. My OS is running on a external SSD with USB3 so i cannot switch this off. The lasting problem seems to be the audio on the? Linux distro but my thought process is working on this problem. At least the CAT comms between the Pi4 field PC and the rig seems to be sorted.
Jason any thoughts?

Sound system #rpi

Anyone thought of using for instance a pi Zero for digital sound processing and then communicate real time audio over SPI to the main Pi4 e.g. for radio sound. This will maybe take off a huge load off the main Pi4 if you understand what I'm saying The Pi Zero with connected the Codec Zero as a audio capture device could then act as a DSP and transmit the audio over SPI to the main Pi4 that is utilized with the Radio software to take the load off the Pi4 for DSP, thus a lot less load on the Pi4.
Jason, do you know of anyone trying this kind of setup to enhance the analog audio of the radio? My Pi4 build with your BAP and Isolating the Pi4 is almost finished. Just the final lipstick for cooling etc. I am still using the USB sound dongle as audio device for DAC and ADC between my FT-897D and the Pi but if I use the Pi Zero for DSP it maybe could took off some lad off the Pi4. Do you know if JS8Call, WSJTX, FLDigi and Winlink will accept this configuration on the audio?
This is because audio will and is always an headache on the Linux distro's.

Thanks Rich - just wanted to make sure they were shipping the new version and it was out of test. Thanks!!!

Re: U-Blox7 GPS doesn't appear to be working. #PI4

Don't worry Glenn, it's perfectly normal for the U-blox-7 GPS to stop working EVERY time you reboot the Pi.

Have you turned off your TNC??APRS12, Packet12, and just run the signalink through the data plug on the body?

It is a 4 gigabyte model, but that would be good to check for other?models!

Results: I ran the BAP script again and, seemingly, all the applications installed.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help!

Hi

I have been only following this a little, but if this is a Pi with only 2GB of memory you will have

to increase the swap space to get Fldigi to complete its build. Maybe some of the others also.

I know on my HP running the e86 Raspian OS I had to increase the swap to 2048.

Re: Buddipole Mini 2?

Hey all,

If you are needing extra voltage from your power mini, I sort of have a work around. I only use one of my powerpole power out ports for my radio. So, to power my laptop or pi (or just charge my phone) I made a powerpole to cigarette lighter (12v) port connector. Then, I found a dual usb C car adapter that supports up to 36 watts out. Even hooking up my computer and phone, I can charge both while running 100 watts output on my radio.

If anyone has a better solution, I am definitely all ears!
